Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct 04: Botanical Survey of India, Andaman and Nicobar Regional Centre organized Swachhata Hi Seva- 2024 campaign in different parts of Islands. During event various activities were conducted which includes Beach cleaning drive at Wandoor, North Wandoor, Rangachang and special campaign and cleaning drive at residential area of Anarkali, Gram Panchayat Beodnabad, Loha Barrick, Majery, Guptapara and Science centre, Health check-up camp at office etc. under leadership of Addl. Director & Regional Head Dr. Lal Singh which was initiated with a Pledge administered by Dr. Singh at office. Tree plantation program also organized as a part of Ek Ped maa Ke Naam. All Scientist, Officers and staff of BSI and general public actively participated which motivated and spread the message among the public to keep the environment neat and clean. These will propagate the message of Swachh Bharat Mission in our Islands.

Revised Sailing Schedule for MV Chuglam: Now Sailing to Katchal via Car Nicobar, Chowra & Teressa
Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct 04: The sailing programme of the Cargo vessel MV Chuglam has been revised. The vessel MV Chuglam will now sail for Katchal via Car Nicobar, Chowra & Teressa on 06.10.2024 (Sun) at 1600 Hrs from Haddo/Chatham Jetty and will sail back to Sri Vijaya Puram immediately after discharging/loading of Cargo at respective ports. Booking of cargo for the above sailing will commence from 05.10.2024 onwards between 0900 Hrs & 1200 Hrs at Commercial Wing.
Loading of cargo will commence from 05.10.2024 (Sat) PM onwards. All the consignors are requested to adhere to the loading schedule in order to maintain the sailing as promulgated. All the consignors are further advised to book the actual quantity of cargo to be transshipped, as no excess cargo will be allowed.
Hindi Fortnight celebrates at ICAR-CIARI Sri Vijaya Puram
Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct 04: The valedictory programme of Hindi Fortnight 2024 was held on 30.09.2024 at Dr. T. R. Dutta Conference Hall of ICAR-CIARI. On this occasion, a seminar was organized on the topic “Rajbhasha Hindi: A Symbol of Cultural and Social Unity of the Nation.” Dr. Vyas Mani Tripathi, Professor and Head of the Department of Hindi, J.N.R.M., Sri Vijyapuram, delivered a highly energetic and inspiring guest lecture as the Chief Guest. The Chief Guest emphasized that Hindi has united the world like pearls in a single, closed garland, and he expressed a sense of privilege and pride in being part of “VasudhaivaKutumbakam” – the world is one family. Despite the vast diversity of our country in terms of culture, rituals, and languages, Hindi serves as a unifying force.
Dr. Eaknath B. Chakurkar, Director, ICAR-CIARI, in his address, urged all employees to carry out their work in Hindi with devotion and dedication, and encouraged them to spread and promote the use of Hindi with the same enthusiasm. An extempore competition was also held, in which all staff members participated enthusiastically. The winners of various competitions like essay writing, letter writing, noting and drafting, word meaning, typing, and quiz competitions were felicitated by the Director and the Chief Guest. Mrs. G. V. Kantamand Mrs. Champa Rani Das were awarded appreciation letters for their maximum usage of Hindi in administrative work and for providing invaluable support to the Hindi Cell and its activities. Mr. Kanishk Bhukar, Administrative Officer, gave a detailed overview of the programmes and activities conducted during the fortnight. Mrs. Teena, Coordinator and Senior Technical Officer, delivered the welcome address, while Mr. Ujjawal Kumar, Technician, proposed the vote of thanks. The entire programme was coordinated by Mr. K. Shyam Sundar Rao, In-Charge of the Hindi Cell, under the guidance of Dr. Eaknath B. Chakurkar, Director of ICAR-CIARI, Vijyapuram.
Joint Band Display and Illumination of Ships for 24th Raising Day Celebrations of Andaman and Nicobar Command
Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct 04: As part of the Andaman and Nicobar Command’s 24th raising day celebrations, a performance by Joint Band Display will be conducted at Flag Point on 06 Oct 24 from 1730 Hrs to 1830 Hrs.
On 06, 07 & 08 Oct 2024, Ships/vessels of the Indian Navy and Coast Guard will be illuminated from sunset to 2200h at anchorage off the Marina flag post seafront. During sunset on 08 Oct 24, the ships would fire colourful flares and switch on the outline illumination lights.
National Voluntary Blood Donation Day on 1/10/2024 at Nityananda Seva Sang, Guptapara Village, Sri Vijaya Puram
Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct 04: On the celebration of “National Voluntary Blood Donation Day” 2024, A & N AIDS Control Society (ANACS) along with Blood Centre, G.B. Pant Hospital, Directorate of Health Services, Supported Nityananda Seva Sangh on 1st October, 2024 at Krishna Mandir Hall, Guptapara village, Near Sitanagar Junction, Sri Vijaya Puram. A total of 36 units of blood were donated by the students, staff and voluntary donors.
The camp was organized under the guidance of Dr. Subrata Saha, Project Director, A & N AIDS Control Society and Director, State Blood Transfusion Council, A & N Islands.
The Blood Donation camp was facilitated by Dr. Shilpa Vijay Sankhe Medical Officer (Blood Bank), ANIIMS, G.B. Pant Hospital, Sri Vijaya Puram. The donors were examined for their eligibility to donate blood and briefed the donors on various aspects and importance of blood donation.
The President of Nityananda Seva Sangh, Guptapara Village, Sri Vijayapuram organized the camp and made arrangements for conducting the camp successfully.
The technical team from Blood Centre, G.B. Pant Hospital, Sri Vijaya Puram and A & N AIDS Control Society ensured that the donated blood units are screened for the transfusion transmissible diseases. They also examined the donors for eligibility criteria.
Donors’ certificates were also distributed to the voluntary donors.
Acute Water Crisis in Macca Pahad Village, Beodnabad: Residents Await Pipeline Installation

Beodnabad, Oct 03.: The delay in laying pipelines has worsened the drinking water crisis in Ward No. 02 in Macca Pahad village under Gram Panchayat Beodnabad.
According to information, the residents of Ward No. 02 in Macca Pahad village have been facing an acute drinking water crisis for the last many years. Talking to Andaman Sheekha Daily, Shri Paramasivam, Pradhan Gram Panchayat Beodnabad said that the people in the area reportedly lack access to safe water; they often have no choice but to drink unsafe water and use polluted water for other domestic usage that too is not within easy reach; often the residents especially of this particular Ward have to trek a long way to fetch water from Wells or in other occasions from the nearby nallahs, the Pradhan said. The villagers approached the concerned authorities innumerable times and made them aware of the grim situation owing to non-existence of water pipelines in the area,
and pleaded with them to solve the water crisis but the APWD officials have turned a deaf ear to their pleas, the Pradhan said. The Gram Panchayat also approached the APWD and met different officials from the concerned Junior Engineer to the concerned Executive Engineer with the request to address the issue, but to no avail; the problem of water scarcity has not been resolved till date, the Pradhan informed.
Meanwhile, the Pradhan has recently written a letter to the Chief Secretary, A & N Administration, Sri Vijaya Puram and requested him to direct the concerned APWD authorities to provide the necessary water pipe connections to the residents of this village on priority thereby putting an end to the plight of the residents of this region without further delay, the Pradhan further said.
Historic Achievement: Chef Ashwar Pal Singh Enters Asia Book of Records with Massive 2144 kg Laddoo

Port Blair, Oct 3: In a proud moment for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, a record-breaking 2144 kg Laddoo was created on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi 2024 by well-known Chef of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Ashwar Pal Singh. This massive creation has earned a place in the prestigious Asia Book of Records, marking the biggest single-piece laddoo ever made in the history.
The achievement was led by Chef Ashwar Pal Singh, who expressed his gratitude and pride at receiving the recognition. “It’s a proud moment for our islands and the country. I feel honored to be a record holder. This wouldn’t have been possible without the dedicated efforts of my team,” he said.
This isn’t the first time Mr. Ashwar Singh has made headlines for his culinary achievements. Last year, he crafted a 1009 kg laddoo in five days, which earned him a spot in India book of records and International book of records. He earned as many as 19 records for the achievement.
Bimblitan Resident Convicted of Sexually Assaulting Minor Daughter, Sentenced to 3 Years
Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct 03: The Hon’ble Special Judge Shri. Niyaz Alam on 26th September, 2024 convicted one accused person, resident of Bimblitan Village, Port Blair, South Andaman in a sexual assault case committed by him against his minor daughter then aged about 12 years. It is averred that on 15.06.2022 when victim girl’s mother had gone out for work the accused lock the room and committed sexual assault upon his daughter, meanwhile his sons who were playing outside came back and knocked the room and being frightened with the knocking accused left the daughter and she apprised about the incident to her brothers and mother. Then the matter was brought to notice of PS Pahargaon who registered case against the accused person under Section 376 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) read with Section 3(b)/5(l)(n)/9(n) of POCSO Act the investigation was taken up by IO Seema Bhomick. The prosecution examined 14 witnesses and the Hon’ble Court after conducting trial found the accused person guilty of the offence and sentenced him to suffer 03 years rigorous imprisonment under Section 7/8 of POCSO Act and ordered him to pay a fine of Rs. 10,000/- in default of payment of such fine further rigorous imprisonment of 03 Months. The case was conducted for and on behalf of the State by Special Public Prosecutor Miss. A.S Zinu.
Residents of Beodnabad Seek MP’s Help Over Eviction, Await Relief from Administration

Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 03: The residents of Beodnabad gathered at Praja Niwas (MP Office), Sri Vijaya Puram today in connection to their eviction by the administration.
According to information, the residents of Beodnabad met the Member of Parliament Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray and informed him that they were served with notices to vacate their land over which they have been residing for more than 50 years.
The land over which they have been residing was under a society on lease. Subsequently, the revenue department claimed its stake over the land and thus a dispute arose. The matter reached honorable court of justice and the verdict came in favour of the revenue department. However, the residents continued to reside over the land as the revenue department remained silent on the matter. The residents also built pakka houses thereon the land.
After few years the revenue department served them with notice to vacate the land as the government has some projects to implement on this said land. Now the residents of this region are totally baffled as how to deal with the situation.
Hence they met the MP and apprised him of the matter. The MP then heard their grievances. As a precautionary measure police had placed barricades and a large number of police personnel were deployed in front of the LG Niwas in order to maintain law and order situation.
The MP later along with the Pradhan of the Gram Panchayat Beodnabad, Mr. Paramasivam and the stakeholders headed for the office of the Chief Secretary.
They met the CS and apprised him of the matter. The CS reportedly heard them patiently and assured them that the administration would provide a package and parcel of land to the residents who would vacate the land.
However, the MP said that he would write letters to the Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi and the Home Minister Shri Amit Shah apprising them of the plight of the residents of Beodnabad village owing to acquisition of land by the government and copy of the letter would be forwarded to the LG and CS.The stakeholders and the Pradhan on the other hand reportedly seemed to be happy on the assurance given by the Chief Secretary.
Saikat Biswas Appointed as Co-Chairman (Eastern Region) of Adventure Tour Operators Association of India (ATOAI)

This appointment marks an important milestone for adventure tourism in the Eastern region, as Saikat Biswas brings extensive experience and a deep understanding of adventure travel to the role.
