Port Blair, Oct 11: In a swift and decisive anti-encroachment operation, Revenue officials have reclaimed 4,000 square meters of government land in Austinabad village. The crackdown resulted in the removal of five unauthorized encroachments, including one structure and four fenced areas, all illegally occupying government property.
In a separate surprise inspection at Swaraj Dweep, revenue officials discovered illegal construction activities at four sites. The unauthorized developments were immediately halted, demonstrating the administration’s unwavering commitment to protecting public land and upholding the law.
The District Administration, South Andaman, has made it clear that such operations will continue relentlessly across the region, targeting all illegal occupations. Citizens are strongly urged to respect public land and adhere to regulations, as non-compliance will not be tolerated.
“The District Administration maintains a zero-tolerance approach to encroachments. We will uphold the rule of law and safeguard public property at all costs,” stated the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman, in a stern warning to violators.

Grand Musical Extravaganza titled “Sharod Jalsaa” by Atul Smrity Samity
Port Blair, Oct 11: A Grand Musical Extravaganza titled “Sharod Jalsaa” comprising superhit Bengali & Hindi songs and exclusive dance numbers, was organised by Atul Smrity Samity, Sri Vijaya Puram with a team of Isles’ renowned singers and dancers on 8th October, 2024 at Samity’s Auditorium on the occasion of Panchami of this Durga Puja.
The show, open to all for witnessing, has been presented under the Concept & Programme Design of Shri Ashees Poddar, an extremely active Life Member since long and ex-Cultural Secretary of the Samity.
The spectacular mega event organized to celebrate 80th Durga Puja of Atul Smrity Samity was hugely successful, which started befittingly by a bhajan based song ‘Mann Re Tu Kahe Na Dheer Dhare’, beautifully rendered by Smt. Monidipa Mukherjee & Shri Ashees Poddar, highlighting our cultural heritage.
The other renowned lead singers included Smti. Ananya Karak, Supriya Kayal, Sujata Roy, Arunima Ghosh, Ms. Amrapali Mitra, Ms. Srijeeta Kayal, Shri Mohd. 37th National under 11 Chess Championship 2024 concluded successfully
Port Blair, Oct 11: The 37th National Under-11 Boys and Girls Chess Championship – 2024 has concluded, wrapping up an exciting seven-day competition that witnessed a total of 11 intense rounds of chess. The championship, hosted at Hyderabad under the auspices of the All-India Chess Federation, saw the participation of 456 boys (including 308 rated players) and 200 girls (with 105 rated players) from across India.
Players from the Andaman & Nicobar Islands delivered remarkable performances, showcasing their skills against strong competition. Among the standout performers from the Andaman & Nicobar Islands was J.S. Virat, the top scorer from Andaman in the Open Category with an impressive 6 points, securing three wins and two draws against higher-rated opponents, which resulted in a significant increase of 61 Elo points in his international rating. Following him, AFM Shrihaan Karmakar demonstrated strong resilience with 4.5 points, achieving one win and one draw against rated players. Y. Rushil also made his mark with 4.5 points, notching two victories against rated opponents, enhancing his chances of opening his FIDE rating. A Sharad held his ground with 4.5 points, showcasing his defensive prowess by securing a draw against a higher-rated player. R. Siddharth played reasonably well, finishing with 4 points, including a notable win against a rated player.
In the Girls Category, Parnita and Krishnapriya B. Rajesh both scored 4 points, with Krishnapriya impressively earning two draws against higher-rated competitors. Their strong performances showcased their skill and determination throughout the tournament, particularly highlighting Krishnapriya’s ability to excel under pressure.
Players from the Andaman & Nicobar Islands delivered impressive performances, strengthening their presence in national chess. The 37th National Under-11 Chess Championship served as a crucial platform for young talents, nurturing their ambition for future national and international success.

Special Campaign 4.0: 20 Sites Identified for Cleanliness Drive in Andaman & Nicobar Islands
Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct 11: As part of the Special Campaign 4.0 for institutionalizing Swachhata and disposal of pending references in the Government Offices from 2nd October, 2024 to 31st October, 2024, 20 Sites/Offices have been identified for cleaning by the Administrative Reforms and Training Wing, Andaman and Nicobar Administration.
In line with this, the Agriculture Department and Administrative Reform & Training Wing, Secretariat along with the staff participated in the massive cleanliness drive as part of Special Campaign 4.0 in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Industries Department Hosts Startup Awareness Program to Boost Entrepreneurship in Andaman
Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct 11: The Industries Department in collaboration with various Line Departments organized a Sensitization Program on Startup India Scheme, Pradhan Mantri Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME), Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), and other relevant schemes from the Bank, Agriculture and Fisheries Departments.
The programme was held in Bakultala, N&M Andaman District and attracted a total of 85 participants, primarily comprising trainees from the Industrial Training Institute and the Industries Department.
The camp was aimed at educating local entrepreneurs and potential startups about various Government initiatives designed to support Micro and Small Enterprises.
The key highlights included Startup India Scheme: Information on what is a Startup and identifying new Ideas for business ventures by Nodal Officer (Startup) through VC. PMFME and PMEGP Scheme: Insights into generating employment through self-employment initiatives and financial assistance available for new projects by the Incharge, Extension Office, Bakultala. Agriculture and Fisheries Support by Sr. Veterinary Officer, AH&VS Rangat and Assistant Director (Agri). The Assistant Manager, SBI briefed about various loan schemes implemented through Banks.
The Industries Department expressed gratitude to all participants for their enthusiastic involvement, emphasizing that such initiatives are crucial for fostering entrepreneurship in the region. PM-KISAN 18th Installment Released, 16,506 Andaman Farmers Benefit from Rs.53.616 Crore Disbursed
Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct 11: The Government with a view to augment the income of the farmers, launched the Central Sector Scheme ‘Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi’ (PM-KISAN) during the financial year of 2018-19 which is 100% funded by Govt. of India. Under the Scheme, eligible farmer families receive financial benefits of Rs. 6000/- per year payable in 3 equal installments of Rs. 2000/- each, in every four months. The scheme aims to supplement the financial needs of the farmers in procuring various inputs to ensure proper crop health and appropriate yields, commensurate with the anticipated farm income.
The Agriculture Department has been designated as the Nodal Department for implementation of the Scheme and Director (Agriculture) as State Nodal Officer (State Admin for PM-KISAN Portal). At District level, all the Deputy Commissioners have been designated as District Level Nodal Officers. The Block Level Monitoring and Implementation Committees are headed by concerned Assistant Director (Agriculture).
On 5th October, 2024, the 18th installment of PM- KISAN was released by Hon’ble Prime Minister. In Andaman & Nicobar Islands, so far, 16506 farmers have been benefited and an amount of Rs 53.616 crores were disbursed to these farmers through DBT to beneficiaries account under this ambitious scheme of Government of India.
