Massive Blackford Dolphin Oil Rig Arrives in Port Blair for Andaman Offshore Drilling

Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct 09: A massive oil rig, Blackford Dolphin, arrived in Port Blair today, towed by the anchor-handling vessel ALP Sweeper. The colossal structure became visible early in the morning, drawing large crowds to the seashore to witness its arrival. The oil rig is en route from Mauritius and will probably be deployed for offshore drilling in the Andaman region.
In recent past, the Oil India Ltd. has signed a contract with Norway’s Dolphin Drilling Ltd. to hire the Blackford Dolphin for exploration activities in the Andaman offshore blocks.
Andaman & Nicobar Islands to Showcase Handicrafts at India International Trade Fair 2024
Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct 09: Like every year, Andaman & Nicobar Administration shall be participating in the 43rd Edition of India International Trade Fair-2024 scheduled to be held from 14th November, 2024 to 27th November, 2024 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. The theme of IITF-2024 is ‘Viksit Bharat @ 2047’. It is a great opportunity to showcase the intrinsic skills of Andaman & Nicobar Islands in the field of handicrafts by depicting the valuable art and artifacts of these Islands.
In order to exploit the available opportunity to find better value for the products, only selected MSMEs of these Islands will be selected to display and sell their products in the Andaman & Nicobar Pavilion during the fair.
Interested local Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises/Handicraft Units who got their Udyam Registration may submit their application for participation in the IITF 2024. The application should be supported with a copy of Udyam Registration, detailed list of products and services, exhibits indicating quantity and price proposed to be taken for display and sale in the Andaman Nicobar Pavilion during IITF 2024, contact address, contact person and phone number.
The application complete in all respect should reach the Directorate of Industries by 16th October, 2024.

Awareness Program on Child Helpline 1098 Held at Anganwadi Centres in Andaman
Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct 09: The Child Helpline-1098 organized an awareness program at Anganwadi Centre, Hashmatabad, recently to create awareness about the services provided by the Child Helpline-1098 and the WCD Control Room at VIP Road, Sri Vijaya Puram. During the event, mothers and children were enlightened about the critical services provided by the Child Helpline 1098. Dr. Nitin Shakya, Director of Social Welfare, emphasized the necessity of timely and adequate assistance for children, highlighting the role of society in being vigilant and responsive. The Child Helpline 1098 is a significant step towards creating a safer environment for every child.
Smti Anandini (Call Operator) discussed about the functions of WCD Control Room and the working of Child Helpline. She provided a comprehensive overview of how Child Helpline Operates and the key role it plays in safeguarding the well-being of children in the society. The event concluded with a Q&A session, where mothers and children clarified their doubts.
A similar program was also conducted at Anganwadi Centre, Prothrapur on Sept.30, 2024. Smti Beena Das, Helpline Administrator, CHL-1098 highlighted about the critical services provided by Child Helpline 1098.
An insightful session was conducted by Smti G. Mani Kumari, Call Operator, who discussed about the functions of WCD Control Room and working of Child Helpline.
Orientation Programme on Introduction to ICT for CWSN at GSSS, Kapanga, Katchal
Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct 09: An orientation programme in connection with introduction to ICT for CWSN has been organised at CRC Kapanga, Katchal by Mr. ILAMARAN (Special Educator & Programme Co-ordinator) BINOTA DAS (BRP, CWSN), Mrs. JAYAPRIYA (PSRT) from BPO, Nancowrie under the Chairmanship of Mr. HARIPADA MONDAL, Vice Principal, Kapanga, Katchal on 08th October 2024 . All the staff members especially Mrs. FREEDA SALONA, CI and the CWSN students along with students from class VI to VIII of the school have been present in the programme. Importance of ICT to CWSN was reiterated. A distribution camp also held during which Aids and Appliances have been distributed to Four CWSN students.
Directorate of Social Welfare and IRCA Organizes Awareness Program on the Ill Effects of Alcohol and Drug Abuse
Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct 09: Directorate of Social Welfare in Collaboration with IRCA today organized an informative and impactful awareness program focusing on the Ill Effects of Alcohol and Drug Abuse. This initiative, held under the banner of the “ill Effect if drug abuse” under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, for Sanitary staff.
The program commenced with a comprehensive session led by Mrs. Anchamma (Project Assistant, NAPDDR), who highlighted the grave consequences of substance abuse not only on individuals but also on families and society at large. In her keynote address, she emphasized the government’s commitment to making India drug-free through the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, which aims to spread awareness, prevent addiction, and support recovery.
Dr. Nitin Sakya, Director of the Directorate of Social Welfare, aims to the issued a stern warning about the far-reaching impact of drug abuse, stating that it is not just an individual problem but a threat to families and society as a whole. “Drug abuse is a danger that doesn’t only affect the individual—it spreads its harm to families, friends, and the entire community.”When one person fall victim to drugs, the consequences ripple through their family, causing emotional, financial, and social damage. Ultimately, this danger undermines the fabric of our society.”
Experts from IRCA delivered insightful talks, explaining the psychological, physical, and social damages caused by alcohol and drug dependency. In addition, the program included interactive discussions, counseling sessions, and motivational activities aimed at inspiring individuals to choose a substance-free lifestyle.
Teachers Trained on Identifying Specific Learning Disabilities in Diglipur Zone
Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct 09: An awareness program on Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD) for identification and intervention of children with disabilities was organized on Oct.7, 2024 at GSSS Diglipur for the teaching and non-teaching staff of Primary and Upper Primary Level of Diglipur Educational Zone under the guidance of the Block Project Officer.
The program was inaugurated by Smti Kakoli Dey, Principal, PM Shri GSSS Shubhash Gram, Diglipur as chief guest. The aim of the program was to educate teachers and community members about SLD, its characteristics and potential signs, thereby, promoting early identification, appropriate intervention and inclusive education practices for children with learning difficulties.
