Special Aadhaar Camps Scheduled Across South Andaman and North & Middle Andaman

Port Blair, Sept. 3: The Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs is conducting Special Aadhaar Camps in Gram Panchayats of South Andaman and N&M Andaman during this month for the ease of general public. The camps will be held as per the schedule given below from 9.30 am to 4 pm. All have been requested to avail the opportunity and get their Aadhaar related work done during the Special Aadhaar Camps.

Port Blair, Sep 03: Mr. Vishal Jolly, National Executive Member of the BJP and Former State President of BJP-ANI, expresses profound grief on the sad demise of Shri K. Karpaiah, aged 83 years, beloved father of Mr. K. Parmashivam (State Secretary, BJP-ANI), a resident of Dudh Line, who passed away today, 3rd September 2024, at his residence.
Mr. Jolly extends his heartfelt condolences and prays for the eternal peace of the departed soul. He also prays to the Almighty to grant strength to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss.

 

Pramukh Diglpur PS, Urges for BSNL Towers in Remote Diglipur Villages to Address Security and Connectivity Issues

Diglipur, Sept. 01: With reiteration of his earlier advocacy for setting up BSNL Towers in the outlying areas/villages under Diglipur Tehsil, Mr. Dipankar Mistry, Pramukh, Panchayat Samiti, Diglipur has again demanded for the same.

According to information, there has been a constant demand from the residents of outlying villages under Diglipur Tehsil that BSNL Towers are erected in these areas and residents are facilitated with the access of telephone and internet services.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha Daily, Mr. Dipankar Mistry, Pramukh, Panchayat Samiti, Diglipur said that he was apprised of a number of hurdles being faced by the denizens residing in these far flung areas owing to non-availability of telephone/internet services.
In a letter, the Pramukh further apprised Mr. Ankit Yadav, IAS, the then Deputy Commissioner, N & M Andaman a year ago of the threats and inconveniences the villagers of these peripheral areas- such as, Coffee Dera, Ganeshnagar-2, Beach Dera, Hamber Char, Bish Family, Nariya Tikrey, Burma Char and Bandah Nallah face in absence of telephone and internet services. Mr. Mistry had said in his letter that in the event of sighting of Myanmarese poachers in the areas, the dwellers can’t inform the Police or other agencies as they aren’t accessed to telephone and internet services in their remote areas. Besides, the denizens in these areas often have to face the belligerent behaviour of the Myanmarese poachers who reportedly turn hostile when confronted; and on several other occasions, these Myanmarese poachers purloin the dinghies of these residents and flee when they are chased by the Police personnel, the Pramukh claimed. Thus, in one hand, the feelings of insecurity continue to haunt these villagers, and on the other hand, they can’t pass on the information of the presence/infiltration of Myanmarese poachers on Indian soil to the Police owing to non-existence of telephone towers and services, the Pramukh had argued in his letter.
The Pramukh is now urging the Administration to take initiatives to this effect so as to erect BSNL Towers in these outlying areas in the larger interests of the residents as well as national security, Mr. Dipankar Mistry further stated.

 

Seven A&N Chess Players Achieve International FIDE Ratings, Marking a Proud Moment for the Islands

Port Blair, Sep 02: It’s indeed a proud moment for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands as seven more chess players from the islands viz ACM Darshan, T Sathiya Moorthy, P Anand Rao, B Lalith, ACM Tanisha Raj, G Disha Meenakshi, and K Venkatesh have achieved their international chess ratings, as per the latest International Rating list published on 31st August 2024 by the World Chess Federation (FIDE).
These chess players recently participated in the ‘AICF Chess For Everyone’ 2ndAll-India FIDE Rated Open Chess Tournament 2024 held in Port Blair from 14.08.2024 to 18.08.2024and performed pretty well that led them to open the International Rating.
Achieving a FIDE rating is a significant milestone in a player’s chess career, marking their entry into the global arena of chess.The Andaman Nicobar Chess Association (ANCA) extends its heartfelt congratulations to these players for their remarkable achievement and wishes them continued success in their future chess endeavors.

Anti-Narcotics Police Station Executes Two Successful Operations, Seizes 1.245 Kg of Ganja

Port Blair, Sep 02: Demonstrating an unwavering commitment to combating drug-related activities, the Anti-Narcotics Police Station executed two targeted operations on August 30, 2024, resulting in significant seizures and arrests.
In the first operation, acting on specific intelligence, a team led by Insp. Pritam Behari (SHO, Anti-Narcotics) and including ASI Sanjay Yadav, PC Nanak Singh, PC Ratan Das, PC M. Raja Rao, and PC Vishal Kumar, recovered 850 Grams of Ganja from the RMS Parcel Hub, Postal Department, Port Blair. The Ganja was seized after observing all codal formalities.
In the second operation, another team from the Anti-Narcotics Police Station, also led by Insp. Pritam Behari and comprising SI Mohd Rahil Islam, PC Ratan Das, PC S. Nanak Singh, PC M. Raja Rao, PC Vishal Kumar, LPC Anjana Haldar, and LPC Nandita Mistry, conducted a raid at a private courier service company at Gurudwara Lane, Port Blair. During the raid, they recovered 495 Grams of Ganja hidden inside a geyser. The Ganja was seized after following all codal formalities. During further investigation, the suspects involved in this case were identified and arrested.
Both raids were conducted under the supervision of Mr. Vishesh Dhatterwal, DANIPS, Dy.SP, Narcotics, and the overall supervision of Mr. Mohd. Irshad Haider, IPS, SP (CID), A&N Islands. Cases under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act, 1985 have been registered at the Anti-Narcotics Police Station and further investigations are currently under progress.

NGOs’ Association express gratitude towards Ministry of Home Affairs and A & N Admn. for granting promotion to 3 officers from these Islands to DANICS Entry Grade

Port Blair, Sept 02: The Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association, Andaman and Nicobar Islands express gratitude towards Joint Secretary(UT), Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India and Andaman Nicobar Administration for their timely intervention to grant promotion in DANICS Cadre to three officials from the feeder cadre of A & N Islands issued vide Order No. 14016/13/2023-UTS-II dated 29th August, 2024. It is also heartening that 01 official from the Nicobari Community was also granted promotion to the DANICS cadre in this order. This is a long pending demand by the employees in the feeder cadre as during the last 20 years, no officer from these cadre under A & N Administration has been inducted into DANICS Entry Grade while all the posts of DANICS Entry Grade are filled up by officers from Delhi.
It is pertinent to mention that, the Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers Association vide its letter No. NGO/3-3/CC/2023 dated 10.07.2023 addressed to the Joint Secretary(UT), Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India had demanded for bifurcating the 50% promotion quota of DANICS and to allot the rightful percentage for the feeder cadres of Andaman and Nicobar Islands so that the stagnated feeder cadre officials can be promoted to DANICS Entry Grade.
The Association had also demanded for the upgradation of the pay scales of feeder cadre posts of Andaman and Nicobar Islands at par with DASS Gr I of Delhi government alongwith the pay upgradation of Clerical Cadre staff as has been done in case of DASS Staff in Delhi.

A major historical discovery in Andaman by an island born historian

Port Blair, Sept 02: Although much has been written about the history of the Andaman Islands, no one has been interested in a serious lengthy research; but this is no longer the case. A local historian, Dr. Pronob Kumar Sircar, who was born, studied and brought up in Andaman, and has written a book “History of the Andaman Islands” based on his research on the history of Andaman, has made another important discovery in addition to his previous unprecedented discoveries in the recent years.

Dr. Sircar, in a communication, produced some photographs and video clips stated that –

Although there is a lot of information available in the documents about the Convict Settlements or say Convict Stations in the Andaman Islands, unfortunately no serious researcher has conducted to find out what is the current condition of these barracks and where are their actual locations.

But on last Saturday 30th Aug 2024, Dr. Sircar, with the help of some old local people, made a very important discovery in this regard, which no one had noticed till now. Dr Sircar further said that he has discovered the remains of a British era convict barrack at Hope Town, which is one of the biggest discoveries in the history of the Andaman Islands. The GPS location of the discovered site he said is 11°41’49″N and 92°43’44″E. This place is not far from the spot where Sher Ali assassinated Lord Mayo on 8th February 1872.

Dr. Sircar’s logic is that Sher Ali, Convict No 15557 transported to Andaman in 1869, in all probabilities was detained in the convict station at Hopetown, whose remains are still present, he discovered. There were three convict stations mentioned in the documents in this region, the first near North Bay, second at Bambooflat and the third at Hopetown. Proving his argument further, Dr. Sircar further says that Lord Mayo had suddenly decided to visit Mount Harriet (now Mount Manipur) on the day of his murder. There was no prior planning for this. Sher Ali also suddenly came to know that Lord Mayo would come to his area and if he had been in the barrack near North Bay or Bambooflat, he would not have been able to reach here in time to kill Lord Mayo.

Since Sher Ali lived very close to the place where Lord Mayo was murdered, he had complete knowledge of the area and hence he was able to hide behind the rocks advancely and no one noticed him.

In the light of all these facts, we can definitely say that this historical discovery made by Dr. Sircar is going to open many doors of research in the future.

World Beach Day celebrates by INTACH A&N Chapter with support from ANET and Dakshin Foundation and in association with Coastal Green Zone

Port Blair, Sep 02: 39 boys and girls from different villages in Wandoor participated in the celebration.
The day started with a presentation by Mr. Anand Rao from ANET who explained the significance of beaches to the children. Meera from Dakshin Foundation gave an orientation to the children about the beach ecosystem and Coastal Green Zone helped the children enact a role play where the children were divided into three groups to represent waves, beaches and trees and buildings. The role play explained beautifully how the beaches protect us and why it is important to save our beaches.
Further into the day the entire group went up to old wandoor beach to clean it up armed with gloves and sacks. The children enthusiastically dug up shoes and fishing nets, ropes, clothes, discarded beer bottles, plastic debris and a lot more.
What was extremely disturbing was that a grove was completely fouled up by some people who left behind half eaten food packets. The entire area was infested with maggots. It was disheartening to see that green and blue dustbins were installed just 2 meters away from this dump that the gang conveniently missed.

Andaman Avians Club Organizes Fourth Annual Andaman Birding Marathon

Port Blair, Sep 02: On Sunday, September 1st, the Andaman Avians Club, in collaboration with friends and family, successfully organized its fourth consecutive Andaman Birding Marathon.
This unique event, a first of its kind in the islands, involves club members embarking on a 12-hour bird-watching expedition across all Important Bird Areas (IBAs) in the region.
The club was divided into two teams, each covering different parts of South Andaman Island. A total of 23 members participated, with 16 completing the full 12-hour marathon. Mr. G. Thikkanna and Mr. Kishore Kumar captained their respective teams.
The birding marathon concluded at Chidiyatapu, covering approximately 15 IBAs in South Andaman. During the event, birders reported approximately 90 species of endemic, resident, and migratory birds. Notable sightings included the Andaman Wood Pigeon, the state bird of Andaman, the Bridled Tern, and the Black-backed Dwarf Kingfisher, a species that visits the islands only during the breeding season.

Andaman Avians Club remains committed to its mission of “Observe, Preserve, and Educate” and looks forward to organizing more such birding events across the islands to foster a greater appreciation for avian diversity.

PS Rangat Successfully Intercepts Illegal Drug Transaction: 10 Grams of Methamphetamine Seizes, Accused Arrested

Port Blair, Sep 02: In a rapid and effective operation, PS Rangat successfully intercepted an illegal drug transaction based on reliable intelligence. Under the leadership of Mr. Rahul L. Nair, IPS SDPO Rangat, a specialized team was promptly assembled. The team, led by SI Madhab Halder, SHO, PS Rangat including SI Abdul Sajeed, PCs K. Samir, Yashwant Rao and Sumitra Halder, along with two independent witnesses, moved swiftly to act on the information received.
Acting on a tip-off, that an individual namely Sanjeev Kumar Halder is in possession of illicit drug which he is trying to sell near transformer, janakpur, Rangat. Acting swiftly, the team positioned themselves discreetly near the spot. Shortly thereafter, the suspect was intercepted by the raiding team and conducted a search, resulting in the recovery of 10 gram of Methamphetamine drug from the possession of suspect namely Sanjeev Kumar Halder S/o Late Bharat Chandra Halder (42) yrs R/o Bhatubasti, Port Blair, now at Rangat. Following thorough interrogation, the accused person confessed to his crime. Subsequently, the accused was arrested and a case was registered at PS Rangat under the NDPS Act.
The whole operation was conducted under the supervision of Mr. Rahul L. Nair, IPS, SDPO Rangat and overall direction and supervision of Ms. Geetanjali Khandelwal, IPS, Superintendent of Police, North & Middle Andaman District.
