Vishwa Hindu Parishad Welcomes Renaming of Port Blair as Sri Vijaya Puram
Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept 15: The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has welcomed the historic decision of the Indian government to rename the capital of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, “Port Blair”, as “Sri Vijaya Puram”. The VHP has always demanded the replacement of names that symbolize slavery with those that restore India’s glorious culture and traditions.
The Andaman and Nicobar Islands have a significant history, from being a naval base in the Chola Empire to being the place where freedom fighters like Veer Savarkar, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, and other revolutionaries hoisted the first flag of Indian independence. Today, the islands are ready to contribute to the country’s security and development.
The VHP has been raising this demand for years, seeking a name change from the one given by British officers to one that aligns with Indian tradition. This step is a true tribute to India’s freedom fighters. The VHP and Bajrang Dal extend heartfelt gratitude to the Honorable Prime Minister and Home Minister for this decision.
