Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept 16: IGNOU Regional Centre Port Blair(Sri Vijaya Puram) celebrates “SwachhtaPakhwada 2024” (1-15 September) by organizing series of activities across the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. RCPort Blair(Sri Vijaya Puram) has organized a painting competition, slogan competition for students and people of Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The competition was open for everyone above 16 years age and entries could be submitted online too. A special ceremony in the end of September 2024 will be organized at Regional Centre to facilitate the participants in slogan and painting competition. IGNOU Special Study Centre (0204) Car Nicobar also organized “Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan” awareness program and during this program 22 students attended in the cleanliness drive and participated in the various activities such as poster making and slogan making competition. Coordinator of the Special Study Centre Shri H. Nathaniel (Education Officer) addressed the students regarding “SwachhtaPakhwada 2024’ and Shri Thompson, Assistant Coordinator encouraged them to emphasize on the cleanliness. On 13th September 2024, Regional Centre staffs have also taken ‘Swachhta pledge’ and participated in clean office drive program. They pledged to keep their surrounding clean and encourage local community, learners to keep their homes, roads and city clean.

Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept 16: A “Skill Development Training on Organic Oyster Mushroom Cultivation” was organized at Panchwati, Rangat, from 11th to 13th September 2024, as part of the 100-days Action Plan. The training was conducted by ICAR-KVK, Nimbudera in response to the prior demands of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in the region and aimed at empowering women with the necessary skills to start small-scale mushroom businesses. The program was inaugurated by Shri. Venkat Rao, Gram Pradhan, Sivapuram gram panchayat, who encouraged the women SHG members to take full advantage of the training. He stressed the economic potential of mushroom cultivation and assured the participants of his full support in their entrepreneurial ventures.
Dr. V. Damodaran, Senior Scientist and Head, ICAR-KVK Nimbudera, highlighted the immense potential of mushroom cultivation in the region, explaining how women can not only create economic opportunities for themselves but also benefit local communities. He further elaborated on the growing demand for organically cultivated mushrooms due to their nutritional benefits and market value.
In the technical sessions that followed, resource person from ICAR-CIARI, Dr. Nitu Sandhu, Woman Scientist, DST, educated the participants on various methods of substrate production using agricultural waste materials like paddy straw, sawdust, and banana leaves. Her session provided insight into how SHG members can turn waste into valuable inputs for mushroom cultivation.
Mr. Yatharth Sharma, SMS (Home Science), KVK Nimbudera, focused on the processing and value addition of oyster mushrooms. He explained how SHG members can produce high-quality; market-demanded products like Oyster Mushroom Powder, Dried Oyster Mushroom, Mushroom Pickles, Mushroom Soup Mix and Mushroom-based Snacks and earn additional income. He also emphasized the exceptional nutritional value of Oyster mushrooms, which are a rich source of essential nutrients, including proteins, vitamin D, potassium, and antioxidants making them an ideal choice for a balanced and nutritious diet. Additionally, he discussed innovative methods for utilizing spent mushroom substrate, which could be repurposed as compost, ensuring a zero-waste cycle and additional revenue streams for the participants.
Mr. Mohit, SMS (Plant Protection), KVK, Port Blair, provided a hands-on demonstration on the preparation of mushroom grow bags. He further explained the importance of properly setting up and managing the cultivation chamber and shared techniques to prevent contamination from insect pests and other physical agents, ensuring higher yield and quality.
The participants expressed great enthusiasm and appreciation for the training. The comprehensive approach, combining both theoretical knowledge and practical demonstrations, ensured that the SHG members were equipped with the skills necessary to begin their own mushroom cultivation ventures.
The training concluded with a discussion on future prospects and the support system available through ICAR KVK Nimbudera and the local authorities, ensuring that the women SHGs have the tools they need to successfully implement what they learned.
Earlier, Shri Yatharth Sharma welcomed the gathering and provided an overview of the training program. The program was organized under the overall guidance of Dr. Eaknath B. Chakurkar, Director of ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair. About 44 women from Deep, Dream Team, Eagle Fly, Asha and Atal SHGs participated and benefited from the training.

Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept 16: 2nd October the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhiji is observed as Swachh Bharat Diwas every year. Also this year India is celebrating the tenth anniversary of the swachh Bharat Mission (SBM).
As a befitting tribute to Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhiji on his jayanti and celebration tenth year of Swachh Bharat Mission, MY Bharat, an autonomous body under the Ministry of Youth Affiars, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports is conducting nationwide campaigning “Swachh Bharat Mission – Naya Sankalp” with the theme of “Swabhav Swachhata – Sanskar Swachhata” from 17th September to 2nd October, 2024 in a mission mode with the spirit of Jan Bhagidari se Jan Andolan.
The campaign aims to educate and generate awareness bout the environmental and health impact of singl- use plastic and encourage the adoption of reusable products through community involvement in maintaining cleaner and healthier environment. The campaigning also aim to reaffirm our commitment to the future of snitation and sustainable waste management through behavioural Change and support broader environmental conservation efforts.

Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept 16: Veer Savarkar International Airport has introduced premium car rental service to ensure safety, comfort and to improve passengers facilitation experience at Sri Vijaya Puram Airport.
Airports Authority of India has awarded the license to operate car rental services at Sri Vijaya Puram Airport to Delhi based company, Wise Travel India Limited, (WTI cabs) which has started its prepaid premium taxi services operation from Veer Savarkar international Airport From 16th September 2024. Open tender for the premium car rental service was floated on Central Public Procurement Portal and M/s WTI Cabs was the highest bidders.
The customer care number of the WTI cabs is 9289925535, it is providing taxi services at Bangaluru, Madurai, Rajahmundry, Jaipur, Guwahati, Amritsar, Bhopal, Jabalpur, Varanasi, Gaya and Gwalior etc Airports.
The inauguration of the facility has been done by Airport Director Sh Devender Yadav. The Airport Director said, this another major milestone for the preparedness for international flight operations with streamlining and excellence for city side transport facilities.
According to the WTI Cabs, they have rich experience in managing city side transport at various Airports, their all drivers and staff are police verified and trained on passenger facilitations. They are committed to provide their best to facilitate passengers in the region.

Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept 16: Mr. M.Vinod, President, Andaman Association of Tour Operators and State Vice President ,BJP has deeply mourned the sudden demise Mr. ,Mohammed Raffiq, (Sonu) ,Senior BJP member, Resident of Phoniex Bay who breathed his last today (16/9/2024) afternoon at GB Pant Hospital ,Port Blair.

Mr. M.Vinod pray to the almighty god to grant eternal peace to the departed soul and courage to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss.

Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept 16: The BYC Club Garacharma is organizing Ganapathi Mohotsav in TTI Ground from past 10 years, and this year was no different. They celebrated Ganapthi Mohotsav with great enthusiasm and in a very large scale. On the 9th day a Mahabhog was organized for the bhakts.
Yesterday the BYC Club felicitated several dignitaries of various Department, Who helped them in organizing the event peacefully and grandly. They started their felicitation by The felicitating representative Officer From Pahargaon Police Station for maintaing law and order during the celebration, they secondly felicitated the Officer from Water Section and Sanitary Section of PBMC for keeping the providing water and area clean.They also felicitated Mr. Rakeshwar Lall, State President, Hindu Rastra Shakti, NGO for his support and encouragement. The BYC Club has always made sure to win the hearts of devotees with their effort in organizing Ganapathi Mahotsav.
A Cultural program along with sports events also been organised to mark this program.In the concluding Chinna (President BYC) ,Karthik(Secretary BYC) and members of BYC distributed the prizes to winners and participants.

Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept 16: The Annual General Body meeting of the JNRM Sub-Committee of the Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association was held on 13th September, 2024 at Port Blair which discussed upon various issues pertaining to the employees working in JNRM. The meeting unanimously elected Mr. M.S.Mohd. Ali as Vice President, Mr. N.Venkat Rao as Secretary and Mr. Lokes as the Treasurer of the Committee. Apart from this 02 organising secretaries and 04 executive members were also elected in the meeting. The meeting adopted several resolutions which include (i) Opposing the formation of Deemed to be University (ii) Amendment in Recruitment Rules for Pay revision and Promotion Channel (iii) Construction of compound wall at College property, etc. Mr. R.D. Yadav, Vice President chaired the meeting and urged the committee to work unitedly to achieve their demands. Mr. S.L.Vinjit, Asst. General Secretary while addressing the meeting told about the united struggle made by various organisations for scrapping of NPS and introducing OPS for all. Mr. EA Johnson, Finance Secretary presented the report of the Sub-Committee and briefed the meeting on its functioning.
