Port Blair, Aug 28: The Women Helpline 181 under the Directorate of Social Welfare organized various Awareness Programme on “Women Helpline Scheme and WCD Control room and its aims” at Health & Wellness Centre, Prothrapur of South Andaman under the Directorate of Social Welfare.
Dr. Nitin Shakya, Director (SW), highlight the need to value women’s contributions and help them grow and also discuss how women empowerment can mean equality and freedom from discrimination. Where women such as traveling to space and succeeding in various fields also how women’s participation can strengthen communities, corporations, and countries, and make economies more dynamic. The speech also focus on issues like gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence against women.
Women Helpline Administrator, Mrs. Sushma Pandey, briefed about the Women and Child Development 24×7 Control room established at VIP Road, Junglighat, the toll free Number 181 for Women and for Children 1098.
Call Operator, Miss. Jenis Kujur, discussed about Women Helpline 181 under Mission Shakti scheme intends to provide toll free 24×7 immediate and emergency response to women affected by violence through referral linking with appropriate authority such as police, one stop centre, and hospital and provide information about women related government schemes programs across the country through a single uniform number. Further, discussed on different of types of cases along with solution received so far at WCD control room and how the people of our islands benefitted with the services and other schemes of Directorate of Social welfare. The program was attended by, ANM’s, Anganwadi Worker & Helper, lactating mothers, Asha worker, and general public of Health & Wellness Centre.

District Administration Continues Anti Encroachment Drive
Port Blair, Aug 28: The District Administration, South Andaman has intensified its efforts to address the issue of encroachments through continuous eviction drives across the District. This initiative aims to remove unauthorized structures and restore Government lands and public spaces from encroachments by unscrupulous elements.
In Port Blair Tehsil, fresh encroachment in the shape of locked unidentified structure was dismantled in the village of Aberdeen and an area of 0.02 hects has been restored to government khaata by the revenue field staff.
The Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman cautioned the General Public that the District Administration has zero tolerance towards encroachment on government land and to refrain from encroaching on Government land.

Cycle Rally Organises by TSG Hotels & Resorts to create Awareness on Drug Abuse
Port Blair, Aug 28: To raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and illicit trafficking, the TSG Hotels & Resorts organized a Cycle Rally on 28th August, with an aim to educate the public about the dangers of drugs and their impact on health and society.
The Managing Director of TSG Hotels & Resorts Mr. TSG Bhasker flagged off the Cycle Rally from Cellular Jail at 6:00 am with great enthusiasm in the presence of Mr. Dakshin Bhasker, Director, TSG Hotels & Resorts and Mr. Chiranjeet Das, Corporate General Manager, TSG Hotels & Resorts.
Cyclists carrying placards emblazoned with anti-drug slogans, pedalled their way even amidst rain through several parts of the city including Clock Tower, Bengali Club Junction, Middle Point and Goalgar Junction before culminating at TSG Emerald View Hotel, Phoenix Bay.
The Cycle Rally reaffirmed TSG Group’s unwavering commitment to fostering a drug-free environment for the surrounding community.
Mr. Dakshin Bhasker thanked and praised everyone for their kind cooperation and for being a part of the cycle rally. He also asked everyone to take a step forward against this menace and lead a healthy life.
DC, N&MA Reviews Progress of Panchayati Raj Projects; Emphasizes Quality and Timely Completion

Maharashtra Startup Week 2024: Call for Startups to Apply for Government Support and Funding
Port Blair, Aug. 28: The Maharashtra State Innovation Society, Government of Maharashtra proposes to organize a Startup Week 2024 for supporting and boosting the startup ecosystem in Maharashtra. All India startups with a valid DPIIT recognition certificate with deployment ready Minimum Viable Product (MVP) is eligible to apply online. The top 100 startups will be shortlisted for pitching and final 24 startups would be selected across various sectors.
The Maharashtra Startup Week (MSW) is a dynamic initiative designed to identify, showcase and support startups that can revolutionize governance and create large- scale impact, winning startups get direct Government work Order up to INR 15 lakhs each.
The winners would get the benefit of direct Government Work Orders worth INR 15 lakhs each for piloting solutions with Maharashtra Government Department with Up to 12 -month support for deployment. The startups would gain Access to Government resources and mentoring and would be able to avail cloud credits, various offerings and networking opportunities with investor and industry.

National Lok Adalat to Be Held in A&N Islands on September 14; Disputes Can Be Submitted by September 9
Port Blair, Aug. 28: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Andaman & Nicobar Islands will be holding National Lok Adalat in the District Court Complex at Port Blair and Sub-Divisional Court Complex at Mayabunder and Circuit Court at Diglipur on Sept. 14. Besides the compoundable nature of cases pending in different Courts, disputes at the pre-litigation stage will also be entertained by the National Lok Adalat for disposal upon consensual settlement between the parties. Pre-litigation disputes include (i) NI Act cases u/s 138, (ii) Money recovery cases, (iii) Labour dispute cases, (iv) Electricity and water bills cases (excluding non-compoundable), (v) Maintenance cases (vi) Civil disputes and (vii)Disputes under the Consumer Protection Act.
The public in general having any such dispute at the pre-litigation stage or post-litigation stage are at liberty to submit their disputes in writing to the Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Port Blair before Sept. 9 so that their disputes may be processed and made ready for hearing before the National Lok Adalat on Sept. 14.
National Sports Day 2024: SAI and A&N Police Organize Awareness Events and Competitions for Students
Port Blair, Aug. 28: To celebrate National Sports Day on 29th August, 2024, a series of events have been organized by Sports Authority of India in association with Police Entertainment Team (PET), Andaman & Nicobar Police. To create mass awareness on importance of sports, a skit will be demonstrated by Police Entertainment Team in various schools of Port Blair. This will be followed by sports quiz to be organized by SAI for school students.
Later in the evening from 4.30 pm onwards, a nukkad natak will be performed by A&N Police Team and sports quiz will be conducted by SAI coaches at Marina Park. The winners of quiz will be presented with exciting prizes. The event will be graced by elite sportspersons of the Islands.
Table Top Exercise Conducted in A&N Islands to Finalize Plans for State Level Mock Exercise 2024
Port Blair, Aug. 28: A Table Top Exercise (TTEx) was conducted today under the Chairmanship of Shri A.S.P.S. Raviprakash, IAS, Secretary (Disaster Management), A&N Administration in coordination with the National Disaster Management Authority, Ministry of Home Affairs, GoI, New Delhi with all line Departments of A&N Administration, District Administrations (South Andaman, N&M Andaman and Nicobar), Armed Forces, NDRF, Police and other stakeholders of A&N Islands in the Conference Hall of Aapda Prabandhan Bhawan, Port Blair to finalize scenario and other activities for State Level Mock Exercise (SLME)–2024 to be conducted in A&N Islands on 30.08.2024.
The chair welcomed representative of NDMA and all participants of TTEx and explained the objectives of SLME – 2024 and emphasized the active participation and response of all the stakeholders in the TTEx and proposed SLME-2024 as per their roles and responsibilities to manage disaster in A&N Islands. He also explained the vulnerability profile of A&N Islands towards Earthquake, Tsunami and other disasters and stressed upon the active participation of all stakeholders to test and check Incident Response System (IRS) of A&N Islands during this SLME -2024.
Comdt. Aditya Kumar (Retd.), Sr. Consultant, NDMA, New Delhi briefed about the mock exercise scenario & objective of Table Top Exercise to all stakeholders. During the Table Top Exercise, various scenarios of Earthquake & Tsunami were presented and preparedness &responses of all District Administrations and all Emergency Support Functionaries of A&N Islands which are to be checked and tested in the SLME -2024 were reviewed. The Sr. Consultant, NDMA expressed satisfaction on the preparedness of the UT towards the conduct of SLME -2024 and to manage disasters in ANI. He also stressed on the community participation and trainings to community to build their capacity to tackle and manage disasters in golden hours.
Shri Arjun Sharma, DC (SA), Shri Azharuddin Zahiruddin Quazi, Director (DM), Smt. Niharika Bhatt, SP (SA) and other Sr. Officers attended the exercise in person and the Dy. Commissioners of N&M Andaman and Nicobar attended this TTEx virtually.
State Child Protection Society Conducts Child Rights and Responsibility Awareness Program at Calvary Children’s Home
Port Blair, Aug. 28:The State Child Protection Society under Directorate of Social Welfare, recently held a Child Rights and Responsibility Awareness Program at Calvary Children’s Home. This special event was designed for the children of the Child Care Institution (CCI) home, aiming to empower them with a clear understanding of their rights and the responsibilities that accompany them.
The program focused on educating the children about their fundamental rights viz. Right to Protection: Safeguarding children from abuse, neglect, and exploitation; Right to Development: Promoting access to education and opportunities for personal growth; Right to Participation: Encouraging children to voice their opinions and participate in decisions that affect their lives.
In addition to understanding their rights, the children were also educated on their responsibilities, such as Respecting Others: Recognizing and respecting the rights and opinions of others; Adhering to Rules: Understanding the importance of following rules and regulations for their safety and well-being; and Contributing to Society: Encouraging active participation in community activities and helping others in need.
Dr. Nitin Shakya, Director (Social Welfare), articulated the aim of this program, stating that “our goal with this awareness initiative is to empower children with the knowledge of their rights while instilling in them a sense of responsibility”.
Smt. Rehaneth Begum, Program Manager (SCPS) highlighted the importance of Life skill Education, Child Rights & Responsibilities to the children of CCI. The discussions on the fundamental rights of children and their basic entitlements emphasize the significance of leading a skilled life.
Speaking on behalf of the CCI home, In-charge of Calvary Children Home extended gratitude to the State Child Protection Society under the Directorate of Social Welfare for their continuous support towards empowering children and fostering their well-being.
