Port Blair, Aug 29: In a rapid and effective operation, PS Diglipur successfully intercepted an illegal drug transaction based on reliable intelligence. Under the leadership of Mr. Ankesh Yadav, DANIPS SDPO Diglipur, a specialized team was promptly assembled. The team, led by Inspector Vijay Kumar, SHO, PS Diglipur including PCs Neeraj Singh, Bijoy Sarkar, Susen Das, and R.C. Rathore, along with two independent witnesses, moved swiftly to act on the information received.
Acting on a tip-off that an individual was expected to receive a courier package containing illicit ganja at the Subashgram Post Office in Diglipur. Acting swiftly, the team positioned themselves discreetly near the post office. Shortly thereafter, the suspect was observed approaching the location and as soon as the individual collected the parcel, the raiding team intercepted the suspect and conducted a search, resulting in the recovery of 1.010 Kgs of illicit ganja from the possession of suspect namely Uttam Kumar Biswas S/o Mr. Utpal Kr. Biswas (40) yrs R/o Durgapur, Ward No. 04, Diglipur. Following thorough interrogation, the accused person confessed to his crime. Subsequently, the accused was arrested and a case was registered at PS Diglipur under the NDPS Act.
The whole operation was conducted under the supervision of Mr. Ankesh Yadav DANIPS, SDPO Diglipur and overall direction and supervision of Ms. Geetanjali Khandelwal, IPS, Superintendent of Police, North & Middle Andaman District.

Island-Wide Tsunami and Earthquake Drill on August 30: Residents Urged to Participate in Mock Exercise for Enhanced Disaster Preparedness
Port Blair, Aug 29: This is to inform all Islanders that the Andaman and Nicobar Administration shall be conducting a mock exercise simulating the scenario of an earthquake followed by tsunami on 30.08.2024 from 0900 hrs to 1600 hrs as a part of State Level Mock Level Mock Exercise-2024. This exercise is part of ongoing efforts to enhance disaster preparedness and ensure the safety of our life and property in our Islands.
The mock scenario will simulate an earthquake with a subsequent tsunami alert and the residents may hear sirens, receive emergency notifications, and see emergency response activities. No actual danger will be present, and the exercise will be clearly communicated as a drill.
In some areas, residents may be asked to participate in evacuation drills by moving to designated safe zones. The goal of this exercise is to test and improve the effectiveness of our emergency response plans, communication systems, and evacuation procedures. Public participation is crucial to the success of this drill, as it provides valuable insights into real-world preparedness and response capabilities.
The residents are requested to stay informed and make sure your contact information is up-to-date with local emergency alert systems and if instructed, follow the evacuation procedures and move to designated safe zones.
It is further requested to inform your family, friends, and neighbors about the upcoming exercise.
This is a planned exercise, and there is no real threat to public safety. Please do not be alarmed by the activities or alerts during the drill. The cooperation of the general public is essential to making this exercise a success. This exercise, will involve emergency responders, government officials, and the general public, aimed to test and enhance the preparedness and response capabilities of all involved.

Port Blair, Aug. 29:The general public have been informed that as part of the State Level Mock Exercise-2024 to be held tomorrow (Aug. 30), the Sirens installed in the premises of Secretariat, DBRAIT, DSS Marine, Chatham Saw Mill (Forest Dept), Police Station Aberdeen, Police Station Pahargaon, Police Station Chatham, JNRM College, Port Blair, Fish Landing Centre, Junglighat, IOC, Forest Guest House Corbyn’s Cove, Police Station Bambooflat, Police Station, Ograbraj, Police Station, Chouldari, Police Station, Humfrigunj, OP Wimberlygunj, OP Ferrargunj, Police Booth, Hatitaapu, OP Tirur, Tirur Jarawa Protection Post, OP Radhanagar, Rajiv Gandhi Aquaculture, Kodiyghat, Police Station, Shaheed Dweep, Police Station, Swaraj Dweep, Nimbutala, Rangat, OP 19 Km, R.K Pur, L/Andaman, Fire Station, Hut Bay (L/Andaman), EOC, Car Nicobar, A.E Office, APWD, Teressa, JE Office, APWD, Chowra, A.E Office, APWD, Katchal, EOC, Kamorta and EOC, Campbell Bay for issuance alerts & warnings to the general public during any disaster/emergency through blowing of sirens at high pitch/volume.

Demonstration on “Preparation of Neem Ashtra and Vermi Composting
Port Blair, Aug 29: The Department of Agriculture in association with Union Territory Agriculture Technology Management Agency (UTAMA) is organizing demonstration on “Preparation of Vermicomposting” in the field of Mr. R. Kannan, S/o Lt. P. Rangaswami and “Preparation of Neem Ashtra” in the field of Mr. Animesh Halder, S/o Mr. Ananta Halder in Milangram village under Gram Panchayat, Laxmipur on 18/07/2024 at 10.00 to 12.00 noon.
Vermicompost is the product of the decomposition process using various species of worms, usually red wigglers, white worms, and other earthworms, to create a mixture of decomposting vegetable or food waste, bedding materials, and vermicast. This process is called Vermicomposting, while the rearing of worms for this purpose is called Vermiculture. Vermicompost contains water-soluble nutrients and is an excellent, nutrient rich organic fertilizer and soil conditioner. It is used in farming and small scale sustainable, organic farming.
Neem Astra is a broad-spectrum bio-pesticide & fungicide that can be used to control insects-pests & diseases in organic farming. It’s made from neem extracts, which can act as repellents, growth inhibitors, and toxins that directly poison pests like aphids, termites, and caterpillars.

SAI Car Nicobar Celebrates National Sports Day, Launches Online Registration for Project KIRTI
Car Nicobar, Aug. 29: The Sports Authority of India, STC Car Nicobar, commemorated the National Sports Day today to honour the legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand’s birth anniversary. The event featured a series of activities focusing on promoting sports and fitness.
The day began with a solemn commemoration ceremony by SAI Car Nicobar members, paying tribute to the sporting legacy of Major Dhyan Chand. This was followed by indigenous games like tug of war. A sports quiz was organized, with winners receiving recognition.
In a significant move towards promoting grassroots sports talent, the Centre unveiled the online registration process for athletes of Nicobar District for the Project KIRTI initiative. Project KIRTI is a premier talent hunt and fitness assessment drive under the Khelo India Scheme of SAI that aims to identify and nurture budding athletes in the region. The online registration process is set to open doors for talented individuals to showcase their sporting potential and embark on a journey towards excellence.

Leadership Development Programme for Fisheries Cooperatives
Port Blair, Aug 29: A three day training for the Board of Directors and the members of Fishermen Community on the theme of “Leadership Development Programme for Fisheries Cooperative” sponsored by National Centre for Cooperative Education (NCCE), New Delhi at Fish Landing Centre Junglighat from 28 – 30th Aug 2024. Training was inaugurated by Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Chairman, Andaman and Nicobar State Cooperative Union (ANSCU) Andaman and Nicobar Islands. On the occasion while addressing the gathering Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma the chief guest in his inaugural speech emphasised on leadership quality, their duties, responsibilities, Management and Evolvement of every members in the decision making process for the success of a society. Other speakers were Assistant Director of Fisheries Mr. Amal Deepan who highlighted various Govt. Schemes for the Fisheries Cooperative Societies and Fishermen Community. Mr. Maheshwar Rao, Board Member, National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) also spoke about the facilities and schemes of NFDB.

Draft Policy on House Boat Tourism in A&N Islands Open for Public Feedback
Port Blair, Aug. 29: The Directorate of Information, Publicity & Tourism, A & N Administration has informed that a draft ‘Policy for Development and Promotion of House Boat Tourism in A&N Islands’ has been formulated with the aim to promote and regulate House Boat Tourism in a sustainable and responsible manner, ensuring the preservation of natural resources of these Islands as well as enhancing the tourism experience of visitors.
The draft policy also envisages that the operation of House Boats is performed with due consideration of various aspects such as regulatory framework, navigational requirements, safety norms, requirement of sewerage treatment etc.
The draft policy is placed in the public domain seeking suggestions/comments/inputs from general public, tourism stakeholders, various departments etc. The draft policy is available in the official website of Directorate of IP&T https://www.andamantourism.gov.in. All comments/suggestions/inputs may be submitted to the Directorate of IP&T within a period of 30 days starting from 30/08/2024 to 30/09/2024.
Successful Completion of 3-Day First Aid Firefighting & Disaster Management Training at F & ES HQ
Port Blair, Aug 29: The Andaman & Nicobar Fire and Emergency Services successfully conducted a 3-day First Aid Firefighting and Disaster Management (DM) training program from 27th to 29th August 2024 at the Fire & Emergency Services (HQ). The event was graced by Mrs. Monika Bhardwaj, IPS, DIGP (Fire), as the Chief Guest, along with Mr. Manjeet Sheoran, IPS, SP Fire, and Mrs. Yogita Sharma, Dy.SP Fire.
The Chief Guest interacted with the participants, expressing her appreciation for their dedication and successful completion of the training. Chief Guest emphasized the importance of such programs for personal and community safety and encouraged the youth, to contribute the community and the Fire Service. She emphasized that age is not a limit for this training and encouraged them to join Fire Mitra. The Chief Guest also commended the efforts of the A & N Fire and Emergency Services in organizing the training.
The program included live demonstrations of fire extinguishers and their operations, providing participants with hands-on experience. Attendees were introduced to various activities of the Andaman & Nicobar Fire and Emergency Services, including the Fire Control Room and operational techniques for Water Tender, Rescue Tender, and Disaster Management equipment such as Search & Rescue equipment, Chain Saw, Concrete Cutter, Air Lifting Bag, and Combi Tools.
During the felicitation ceremony, certificates were distributed to 305 participants. The comprehensive training aimed to equip individuals with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively respond to fire emergencies and manage disasters.
Death Mourned
Port Blair, Aug 29: Communist Party of India (Marxist), Andaman & Nicobar State Organising Committee condole the demise of Mrs. Shrimati G. Menon, retired Office Superintendent, A & N Administration at her residence at Garacharma today (29.08.2024) morning. She was 84 years. Her funeral procession will begin from her residence at 3.30 p.m. today. CPI (M) conveys its heartfelt condolence to her family members.
