Diglipur, Aug 27: The people of Diglipur sub-division have voiced their demands for starting passenger ship service with cargo facility between Diglipur and Kolkata.
According to information, there should be passenger ship service with cargo facility between Diglipur and Kolkata at least twice a month. People of this region are suffering a lot owing to the non-existence of this service. They further said that the Passenger ship service between Klokata and Port Blair is suspended for the last two months and the adverse impact of it can be felt at every step of daily life, they decried.
Hence, regular passenger ship service between Port Blair and Kolkata and at least twice in a month from Diglipur to Kolkata is started without further delay, the general public of Diglipur demanded. Furthermore, owing to non-existence of cargo ship service between Klokata and Diglipur the price of essential commodities have considerably increased and hence people have to dig into their pockets, the common man said.
The price of potato and onion are reportedly sold at Rs. 70/- and which sometimes surpasses Rs. 100/- here in Diglipur and elsewhere in N & M Andaman, they claimed. Hence, they urged the administration to start cargo ship service between Klokata and Diglipur at least twice a month.
People of Diglipur are eagerly waiting for the air service poised to be started from Shibpur Airport. Expressing their views on the matter they said that they are learning that a flight/aero plane service will start from Shibpur Airport for a long time, but it is not started and it is not clear to them what constraints are behind not starting the much-awaited service, they said.
The people of Diglipur residing at the extreme Northern part of these islands and far away from Port Blair are desperately waiting for this service to be commences for the benefits and better connectivity in the region, they further urged.
