IGNOU celebrated 78TH Independence Day
Port Blair, Aug 16: The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), Regional Centre, Port Blair has celebrated 78TH Independence Day on Thursday, 15th August 2024 at Regional Centre campus. The Flag Hoisting was done by Prof. Sunil Jacob, Regional Director. All the Officers and staff of Regional Centre have been participated in the celebration.

MV Kalighat to Sail for Diglipur via Mayabunder on 19.08.2024
Port Blair, Aug 16: Port Blair, Aug 16: This is for the information of the passenger/general public that the vessel MV Kalighat will sail for Diglipur via Mayabunder on 19.08.2024 (Monday) at 2100 Hrs from Haddo Wharf and will sail for Port Blair on 20.08.2024 at 1400 Hrs from Diglipur via Mayabunder.
Passengers may book their tickets for the above sailings from DSS e-ticketing portal (https://dss.andaman.gov.in/eticketing) and STARS Ticketing Counter from 17.08.2024 (Saturday) onwards.
BJP Leaders and Members Pay Floral Tribute to Former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee on His Sixth Death Anniversary in Diglipur

Diglipur, Aug 16: The death anniversary of former Prime Minister Bharat Ratna Late Atal Bihari Vajpayee was observed in the BJP Office Diglipur in the morning hours today.
Shri Biswajit Bairagi, General Secretary, Shri Swapan Gupta, Cashier, BJP, Diglipur, BJYM leaders and members & workers of the BJP gave floral tribute to the former PM on his death anniversary. Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s photo-frame was garlanded to mark his sixth death anniversary on Friday here. Shri Biswajit Bairagi spoke a few words on this occasion.
Today at the mainland, President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached the ‘Sadev Atal’ memorial in Delhi to pay tribute to former PM and BJP stalwart Atal Bihari Vajpayee on his sixth death anniversary today.
Vajpayee’s foster daughter Namita Kaul Bhattacharya also arrived at ‘Sadaiv Atal’, to pay him a floral tribute on his death anniversary.
Alat Bihari Vajpayee, one of the prominent political leaders of the country and founding member of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), took his last breath on August 16, 2018, at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) after a prolonged illness.
Pradhan Palani Kumar Hoists National Flag at Balidan Bedi for the First Time on Independence Day, Honoring 44 Martyrs

Humphrey Gunj/Diglipur, Aug 16: India’s 78th Independence Day was celebrated in every part of India yesterday with great pomp and show. Along with the rest of the country, Mr. Palani Kumar, the Pradhan, GP Humphrey Gunj also celebrated the 78th Independence Day of India at his Panchayat.
However, what remarkable and proud moment was for Mr. Palani was that he hoisted the National Flag at Balidan Bedi, Humphrey Gunj at around 08:45 am yesterday in presence of the Secretary, Balidan Memorial Committee, PRI members and villagers.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha Daily, the Pradhan, GP Humphrey Gunj, Mr. Palani said that he was the first person to have reportedly hoisted the National Flag at Balidan Bedi on the occasion of Independence Day to honour the forty four martyrs who had laid down their lives for the freedom of our country. No one earlier reportedly hoisted the National Flag at Balidan Bedi, Mr. Palani claimed.
The Balidan Bedi was reportedly built in the year 1978 in the memory of 44 martyrs who had sacrificed their lives on 30th January 1944 for the cause of freedom of our nation, the Pradhan said.
Independence Day Celebrated in Diglipur: Adhyaksha Smti Elizabeth and Pramukh Dipankar Mistry Lead Flag Hoisting and Tributes

Diglipur, Aug 16: India’s 78th Independence Day was celebrated in Diglipur in which Smti Elizabeth, the Adhyaksha, Zilla Parishad, N & M Andaman hoisted the National Flag at Vivekananda Stadium, Diglipur yesterday at 09:10 am and which was followed by National Anthem with the guard of honour by the Police Personnel. Earlier, she went to give a floral tribute to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose at his statue in the children park at 09:00 am. Speaking on the occasion, the Adhyaksha highlighted various projects and programmes implemented/being implemented by the Administration through various Departments & agencies. School children and participated and performed cultural programs on this event. The program concluded at around 10:15 am. After the program at the Vivekananda Stadium, the Adhyaksha went to CHC, Diglipur and distributed snacks to the admitted patients in the hospital and interacted with them.
Mr. Dipankar Mistry, Panchayat Samiti Pramukh, Diglipur hoisted the National Flag at the Samiti Bhawan at 07:30 am in presence of the BDO, Diglipur Mr. Rajendra Kumar, PRI’s AE, JEs, Samiti Members and others. Flag hoisting was followed by National Anthem. The Pramukh then delivered a speech in which he urged the PRIs and the Administration to work together for the welfare of the people. The general public also witnessed the event.
The Pramukh also hoisted the National Flag at the Children Park at 08.10 am and gave floral tribute to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose at his statue in the park on this auspicious day, a source from Samiti Office said.
Cancellation of Sindhu Sailing to Mayabunder on 17.08.2024
Port Blair, Aug 16: This is for the information of the passengers/general public that due to technical reasons, the scheduled sailing programme of the vessel Sindhu to Mayabunder on 17.08.2024 (Sat) at 0800 Hrs from Port Blair and her return voyage from Mayabunder to Port Blair on the same day at 2100 Hrs has been cancelled.
Passengers who have purchased their tickets for the above sailings are informed to cancel their tickets and get a full refund.
Inconvenience caused to the passengers is highly regretted.

Gram Panchayat Mayabunder Clinches Victory at the DC Cup Football Tournament-2024
Port Blair, Aug 16: The DC Cup Football Tournament 2024 has come to an electrifying conclusion, with “Gram Panchayat Mayabunder” crowned as the champion after a thrilling final match against “Young Boys”. The game kept spectators on the edge of their seats, with both teams showcasing remarkable skill, resilience, and sportsmanship.
The final score reflected the intensity of the competition, as “Gram Panchayat Mayabunder” secured their victory in a nail-biting finish. Their triumph is a testament to their hard work, strategic play, and unwavering determination throughout the tournament.
The grand finale and closing ceremony were conducted by the District Administration, with the esteemed presence of Mr. Dilkhush Meena, IAS, Deputy Commissioner N&MA, who served as the Chief Guest alongwith Mr. Ashish Joon, DANICS, Assistant Commissioner (Hq), Mayabunder, officials from various departments and general public. Mr. Dilkhush Meena, IAS commended the efforts of both teams and praised the sportsmanship displayed throughout the tournament. Pradhan P. Abdul Basheer Honored with Certificate of Appreciation on Independence Day for Exemplary Social Service

Wimberly Gunj/Diglipur, Aug 16: Mr. P. Abdul Basheer, Pradhan Kanyapuram was awarded with Certificate of Appreciation yesterday, on India’s 78th Independence Day by the Chairman, Republic Day/Independence Day Celebration Committee, Wimberly Gunj Zone.
.This Certificate of Appreciation was bestowed upon Mr. P. Abdul Basheer, who, apart from Pradhan Kanyapuram, is reportedly actively attached to NAI Manzil (NGO) for his service selflessly educating masses on domestic violence, counseling on jobs, education and drug addiction.
Mr. P. Abdul Basheer’s name was recommended by Smti. D. Padmavathi, Pramukha, Panchayat Samiti, Ferrar Gunj, South Andaman for this coveted commendation award through a letter to the the Chairman, Republic Day/Independence Day Celebration Committee, Wimberly Gunj Zone.
