Port Blair, Aug 12: As India gears up to celebrate its 78th ‘Independence Day’ with great enthusiasm, the Government of India has launched the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ Campaign as a nationwide initiative to encourage citizens to hoist the Indian National Flag at their homes from 13th to 15th August, 2024. The campaign aims to celebrate the 78th Independence Day of India and promote patriotism, unity and national pride. Citizens have been encouraged to hoist the National Flag at their homes, offices and public spaces from 13th to 15th August, 2024.
To make this third edition of ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ Campaign 2024, a people’s movement in A&N Islands, the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Shri Keshav Chandra, IAS, today led the campaign by handing over the National Tri Colour to the Secretary (I/C), PBMC, Shri Azharuddin Zahiruddin Quazi, IAS and the Director, RD, Shri Shiv Singh Meena at Secretariat for its further propagation and distribution.
Approximately, 60,000 National Flags provided by the Ministry of Culture are to be distributed to households across all the Wards of PBMC, Gram Panchayats and Tribal Villages in the Islands. This distribution effort, managed by the PBMC & the Directorate of RD, PRIs, and ULBs, is designed to encourage every resident to participate in this patriotic observance.
The National Flag represents the values of freedom, equality, and justice and hoisting the flag at homes and public spaces, symbolizes national pride and unity. Accordingly, the goal of ‘Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign’ is to raise awareness on Indian National Flag and fostering a deep sense of patriotism and unity among the local communities. People have been encouraged to bring the Tiranga home and hoist it to mark Independence Day-2024. This promotes a sense of ownership and responsibility among citizens towards the nation.
The Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign which started from August 9 will continue upto August 15, 2024. By participating in the Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign 2024, citizens can demonstrate their love and respect for the nation and its values, promoting a sense of national unity and pride.

Massive Protest in Diglipur Against Attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh, BJP Leaders Urge Modi Government to Intervene

Diglipur, Aug 12: In response to the widespread attacks on minorities, particularly Hindus, in post-Hasina Bangladesh, a massive protest was held Diglipur today.
As per report, a massive protest against the atrocities and attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh was held in Diglipur today. Significant crowd of protesters gathered in front of the Assistant Commissioner’s Office here at around 03:00 pm and shouted slogans. The local police, on the other hand, were deployed at the protest site in view of the protest and to maintain law and order situation. Barricades were placed at the gate of the Assistant Commissioner’s Office and the police were seen standing close to the barricades.
The protesters then started marching from in front of the AC’s Office at around 04:00 pm and traversed all the vantage points in Diglipur Bazaar areas such as Diglipur Police Station, Fish Market, Diglipur main market, Madhupur Road and then they returned from Madhupur Road and halted and gathered in the centre of the Diglipur Bazaar. The protesters while marching shouted slogans: “Bangadeshi Hindu ke upar atyachar bandh karo”, “Bangadesh sarkar jabab do”, “Duniya ke Hindu ek ho”, “Diglipur ke Hindu ek ho”, “Hindu dharmic sthal todna bandh karo”, “Bharat ko Hindu Rashtra karna hoga”, “Rohingya go back”, etc. Then after collecting in the centre of the Diglipur Bazaar, they addressed the public. Addressing the public, the prominent Diglipur BJP leaders delivered their speeches one after one in which they voiced their concern on the atrocities being undoubtedly inflicted on the minorities especially the Hindus in multiple places in Bangladesh and urged the Modi govt. to engage directly with the interim government to end this outbreak of violence, including the targeting of Hindus, and to bring those responsible to justice.
The protest was organized by the BJP, Diglipur Unit and Mr. Asit Baroi, BJP Observer, N & M Andaman reportedly thanked the local administration and police for their cooperation in the protest.
The Diglipur Bazaar remained reportedly closed from 03:00 pm to 05:00 pm in support of this protest, while the local police reportedly remained dutiful and alert during the entire protest which reportedly peacefully concluded, the report further said.
Union Power Minister likely to visit A & N Islands in October; MP informs after meeting
Port Blair, Aug 12: Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, Member of Parliament, A & N Islands, on Sunday met Mr. Manohar Lal Khattar, Union Minister of Power, Govt of India and again submitted a letter complaining about unabated power cuts happening the Islands and Port Blair in Particular.
In his letter Mr. Ray has stated that the capital Port Blair city is under severe power crisis continuing for many years and no corrective steps has yet been taken. The power cuts have become a day to day affair. And people are aggrieved due to this problem.
The average requirement of power at Port Blair is about 45 MW. But all the available power producing sources put together including the department’s 4 MW power plants are unable to meet the requirements.
The problem of power crisis is not limited just to Island capital but is being experienced in all populated islands of the territory.
Mr. Ray has also pointed out that the 33 KV and 11 KV tie lines in Port Blair are very old and require immediate revamp to address the power cut crisis.
In addition to the technical issues, Mr. Ray also pointed out that the Electricity Department requires the revival of SE post and up-gradation of the same to CE post.
Mr. Ray invited the Union Power Minister to Andaman & Nicobar Islands to understand the ground reality and to obtain firsthand knowledge of the problems being faced by the people in the Islands.
Mr. Manohar Lal Khattar, Power Minister has reportedly assured that he will visit the Islands in the month of October this year.
Forest Department Captures 3-Meter Crocodile at Bakultala Nallah

Bakultala, Aug 12: In a successful operation, the Forest Department captured a 3-meter 10-centimeter crocodile at Bakultala Nallah, Middle Andaman early this morning. As per villagers, the operation was initiated following multiple reports from local residents about sightings of the large reptile in the area, raising concerns for public safety.
Acting swiftly, the Forest Department set up a trap in the nallah, where the crocodile was found ensnared this morning. The prompt response by the department ensured that the crocodile was captured without any harm to the local community or the animal.
Sources said, after being safely captured, the crocodile was transported from Bakultala to a more secure and suitable location, where it will be released into the wild.

Forensic Science Laboratory, Port Blair: A Beacon of Innovation and Excellence in Forensic Services
Port Blair, Aug 12: The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), Port Blair, has proudly served the community since its establishment in 2003 under the A&N Police Department. Its Chemistry Division was created since its establishment, which has played a key in rapid forensic analysis, handling a diverse range of cases including Toxicology, NDPS, Excise, Trap, Petroleum Products, Blood Alcohol Concentration, and General Chemistry. In 2012, the FSL significantly expanded its capabilities with the introduction of the District Mobile Forensic Unit (DMFU). This addition has greatly enhanced the ability to assist in crime scene investigations, enabling the effective collection and preservation of vital evidences from crime scenes.
Beyond its analytical capabilities, the FSL, Port Blair, is also providing comprehensive training to Investigating Officers (IOs) on crucial aspects of forensic science, including evidence collection from crime scenes, as well as in the investigation of heinous crimes. The FSL remains dedicated to supporting law enforcement and enhancing forensic practices to ensure justice and public safety.
Under the distinguished leadership of our Director General of Police (DGP), the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), Port Blair, has reached several significant milestones, marking a new era of advancement in forensic capabilities. Key achievements include:
• Implementation of e-Forensics: FSL, A&N Islands has become the first Union Territory in India to implement e-forensics. This pioneering step facilitates the seamless digital transmission of forensic reportsand adopt a paperless system as officially notified in the A&N Gazettesetting a benchmark for technological advancement among Union Territories.
• Customization of Mobile Forensic Boat: A unique Fast Interceptor Boat, designed specifically for forensic use, is being stationed at Nancowry in Nicobar District. This boat will serve the remote Nancowry group of islands, enhancing forensic capabilities in these distant areas.
• Engagement of Scene of Crime Officers: In line with new criminal laws, six additional Scene of Crime Officers have joined our Crime Scene Investigation team at various locations of the Islands. To support their work, Crime Scene Investigation Kits have been procured.
• Joining of Regular Scientific Staff: Three new staff members, including an Assistant Director (Scientist-C), Senior Scientific Assistant, and Scientific Assistant, have been appointed to strengthen the FSL team and proposal for creation of more posts for FSL, Port Blair is under process.
• Procurement of Mobile Forensic Vans: Five new forensic vans are in the process of acquisition from National Forensic Science University (NFSU), which will be deployed across all districts of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands to improve forensic services.
• New Building Construction: A new facility is currently under construction (likely to be completed by December, 2024), set to house the state-of-the-art DNA Profiling and Cyber Forensics Division. This expansion will greatly enhance forensic analysis capabilities at A & N Islands.
• Procurement of Minor Equipments: Essential equipment for the forthcoming DNA Profiling Division is in the procurement process, ensuring readiness for advanced forensic DNA analysis in near future.
• New FSL Logo: To reflect our growth and achievements, a new logo has been designed. The Director General of Police (DGP), Andaman and Nicobar Islands, unveiled the new logo for the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), Andaman & Nicobar Islands on 09th of August, 2024,and also introduced T-shirts featuring the new emblem, symbolizing the laboratory’s growth and future advancements. The newly unveiled logo embodies the FSL’s commitment to excellence and innovation in forensic science. The design reflects the laboratory’s dedication to advancing forensic techniques and upholding high standards in criminal investigations.
These advancements have been translated into reality under the visionary leadership of Admiral D.K. Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.), the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Andaman & Nicobar Islands and with the kind support of Shri Keshav Chandra, IAS, Chief Secretary. Nicobar District Takes a Major Leap towards Digital Governance
Port Blair, Aug 12: In a significant leap towards digital governance, Ms. JyotiKumari, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Nicobar District, today on 12th August 2024 inaugurated a three different Digital reforms at Nicobars District.
1. District Information System .
2. Free Wi Fi Access point.
3. Online Helicopter Ticket Booking /Guest House/Transit/Quarter Allotment.
This initiative is set to enhance accessibility to essential online services and streamline the administrative processes for the residents of Car Nicobar, Nancowry, and Campbell Bay.
The District Administration Nicobar has made substantial strides in digitizing its services. All manual services and certificates are now available in a digital format, marking a shift towards a more efficient and user-friendly system. This change ensures that all certificates and administrative processes are handled online, significantly reducing the need for physical paperwork.
Free Wi-Fi Access: The newly launched Wi-Fi access point will enable residents to access various online services directly without any data charges.
Comprehensive Web Page: A District Information System webpage has been launched, offering a range of online services and the Govt portal also can access by the visitors.
Additionally, with today’s launch, two previously manual services have now transitioned to online mode: through URL:https://sites.google.com/view/dcnicobars/ (i) Helicopter Ticket Booking (i)Guest House/Transit/Quarter Allotment.
Citizens can now submit applications and view passenger lists through an integrated online platform. All relevant links and resources are available on the district’s website and within the premises of respective subdivision offices.
This move positions Nicobar Deputy Commissioner office as the first paperless office within the Andaman and Nicobar Administration. The transition to a fully digital service model aligns with the district administration’s goal of providing “Maximum Service with Limited Resources.”
The aim is to alleviate daily challenges faced by citizens and enhance overall service efficiency.
The District Administration Nicobar, led by Ms. JyotiKumari, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing service delivery through technology. With the successful launch of free Wi-Fi and a comprehensive online services platform in Car Nicobar, the administration is now setting its sights on extending these benefits to all cut-off islands within the district.
Ms. JyotiKumari , IAS has announced a pilot project to introduce online services to the three remaining cut-off islands: Chowra, Katchal, and Teressa.
This initiative aims to replicate the successes achieved in Car Nicobar, ensuring that residents of these remote islands also gain access to essential digital services. She also congratulate all team member for take initiate for in-house development of above digital reforms without any financial implications.
The launch event was graced by Mr. Piyush Singh Vijaykaran, AC (HQ), Mr. Anuj Kumar Bharti,(PO,ITDP) and several other line department officers were also present. ‘With You’ NGO Organizes Successful Antenatal Screening Camp in Collaboration with Ritika’s Diagnostic Solution (P) Ltd
Port Blair, Aug 12: Wimberlygunj, 12.08.2024 – WITH YOU, a local NGO, in collaboration with Ritika’s Diagnostic Solution (P) Ltd., successfully organized an antenatal screening camp for pregnant women and lactating mothers in the rural community of Wimberlygunj. The camp was inaugurated by Dr. Abhishek, GDMO HWC wimberlygunj
in the presence of Mr. A. Ummer, ZPM Wimberlygunj, medical staff, and PRI members.
Dr. Juhee Yadav, Senior Consultant Gynecologist, led a team of dedicated healthcare professionals who provided essential screenings and consultations to the attendees. The camp saw a turnout of approximately 40 patients, who benefited from the medical services offered.
In light of the absence of gynecological services at the local PHC and CHC, WITH YOU decided to conduct this camp to address the urgent healthcare needs of the community. This initiative aimed to ensure that rural women have access to specialized medical care, particularly for maternal health.
Miss V.K. Mariyam Bibi, President of WITH YOU, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to Diagnostic Solution (P) Ltd. and DHS for their crucial support in providing medical expertise for the camp. “We are committed to bringing healthcare services to the doorsteps of those in need, and we are thankful to our partners for helping us make a difference,” she stated.

Inauguration of Farmers Field School programme at Kaushalyanagar, Rangat, North & Middle Andaman
Port Blair, Aug 12: To create awareness on Integrated Pest management practices among the farming community, a Farmers’ Field School (FFS) programme on Rice was inaugurated by CIPMC, Port Blair at Kaushalyanagar village on 09.08.2024. Dr. S. Chakraborty, APPO(PP) briefed about the 14 weeks programme that will continue up to harvest of the crop. Mr. George Kujur, Panchayat Pradhan, Kaushalyanagar GP, State Agri. Dept. Officials and farmers participated in the programme.
Electricity Department Hosts Second Jan Sunwai at Wimberlygunj Panchayat Hall
Port Blair, Aug 12: The Electricity Department, in its endeavor to reach out to the consumer’s and provide a platform to address their power related issue on 10.08.2024 (Saturday) at 10.30 am, organized the second Jan Sunwai in the Panchayat Hall, Wimberlygunj, under the chairmanship of Director (Power), Andaman & Nicobar Administration,.
The programme commenced with reception to Director (Power) and senior officials of Electricity Department, by Mr. Venkat Ram Babu, Pradhan (Wimberlygunj) and had witnessed a large gathering of PRI members and local residents.
Speaking on the occasion, Director (Power), assured the gathering that this platform is devised to listen to the power related issues of residents and to familiarize them with the actions of the department in pipe lines to uplift the power supply infrastructure of these islands. He added that, the more transparency will be brought in the system, so that the general public is kept intimated about the power cuts and status of the grievances raised related to power issues.
Director (Power), also thrust upon the residents to avail the benefits of CCRHM launched by the department, for quick and efficient redressal of their complaints. He also mentioned that assessments are being done regularly to identify the problematic zones for identifying their prudent solutions.
During the events issues/grievances raised by the Pradhan and local residents were heard and a plausible solution in pipelines for addressing these issues was also deliberated. Director (Power), assured that all issues raised herein will be analyzed to work out measures for its prompt redressal and follow up meeting shall also be conducted to review the progress of action.
The event successfully concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mrs. Sajida Pradhan (Manarghat), who applauded the efforts by the Electricity department, A & N Administration, for the JAN SUNWAI programme in their panchayat, a platform for the consumers of Electricity Department to express their concerns/grievances for more effective and early redressal. He also appreciated the works done by the department in this local area and desired that the left-out issues will also be materialized by the department in larger public interest.
