Port Blair, Aug 09: In a move aimed at providing much-needed financial relief and support to a distressed family, the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman has sanctioned an ex-gratia relief payment to Mrs. Sarita Sharma, a resident of Bambooflat. This financial assistance has been granted in response to the severe damage caused to her house due to a tree falling. The financial assistance will be utilized to address the immediate repair needs and to alleviate the financial burden faced by the family during this challenging time. The financial assistance falls under the purview of the NDRF/SDRF norms and is intended to provide immediate relief and support to help individuals affected by natural disasters.

National De-worming Day Observed Across A&N Islands; State-Level Program Held at Mohanpura
Port Blair, Aug 09: National De-worming Day was observed in all schools and Anganwadi Centers across the Union Territory today. To mark the event, a State Level program was organized by the Directorate of Health Services in association with UT Health Mission in the Conference Hall of Govt. Senior Secondary School, Mohanpura with the ultimate aim to cover children between the age of 01 to 19 years through schools and Anganwadi Centers as a fixed day approach.
Dr. Anil Agarwal, Mission Director (UTHM) graced the occasion as the chief guest while Dr. Suja Antony, Director of Health Services and Smti. S. Bhawani, Principal GSSS, Mohanpura were the guests of honor.
In his address, Dr. Anil Agarwal stressed the need for personal hygiene to prevent worm infestation and also the need for the students, teachers and the parents to understand the importance of this program.
During the program, Dr. P. Lal, Joint Secretary (RCH-II) in-charge, delivered the keynote address while the Principal of School, expressed her views about the importance of the day.
Children were administered with the tablet Albendazole by the guests marking the start of the program. The program concluded with vote of thanks proposed by Shri V.A. Mohd. Ashraf, Health Educator, DHS.
An historical achievement on the World Tribal Day by a Tribal Development Cooperative Society with the Support of A & N Administration & IOCL
Port Blair, Aug 09: The Tribal Development Cooperative Society Ltd, Nancowrie, LPG-Distributor with the valuable support of the A & N Administration and IOCL, It’s achieved a significant milestone in realizing the Government’s vision of providing clean cooking fuel to the people of Teressa and Chowra Islands, an historical achievement for the Tribal Community and a notable accomplishment by the UT Government, IOCL and the LPG Distributor Tribal Development Coop. Society Ltd. Marking the first-ever supply of LPG cylinders to these remotest islands since India’s Independence. The IOCL authorised Transporter Reem Indane Service successfully dispatched the first consignment of LPG cylinders transported through DSS vessel by MV Chuglam on 2nd August 2024 from Hopetown Jetty, Port Blair to Chowra/Teressa Islands.
Mr. Ravinder Kumar, DANICS, The Assistant Commissioner, Nancowrie swing into full action to travel to Teressa Island by MV Pilomillow alongwith Mrs. Aysha Majid, Chairperson, Tribal Development Cooperative Society Ltd to hand over the first ever LPG Cylinder to the Tribal Consumer on the World Tribal Day the 9th August 2024.The Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary, Members of Tribal Council and many other tribal were also present in the historical function of the first LPG distribution in Teressa and Chowra Island.
Later, The Asst. Commissioner, Nancowrie had organized a camp for ration card updation with his team and inspected Anganwadi centers. He had also given patients hearing to the issues of the tribal in which he assured that their grievances will be resolved.
Further, Mrs. Aysha Majid on behalf of tribal people expresses sincere thanks and gratitude to the Chief Secretary, A & N Islands Mr. Keshav Chandra, IAS for his support to tribal people time to time. Celebration of World Breastfeeding Week 2024: Promoting Maternal and Child Health in North & Middle Andaman
Port Blair, Aug 09: Under the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Project, Diglipur, a series of events were organized across various Anganwadi Centers (AWCs) to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week 2024. The events were graced by the presence of the Child Development Project Officer (CDPO), PRI members, Medical Officers, Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANM), and Community Health Officers (CHO). These dignitaries delivered insightful lectures on the importance of breastfeeding and its profound benefits for both mother and child health. The initiative was highly successful in raising awareness and promoting breastfeeding among the community.
In continuation of the activities under the ICDS Project Rangat, a series of mothers’ meetings were held where success stories on breastfeeding were shared. These meetings provided a platform for mothers to exchange their experiences, further enhancing the outreach efforts at the Panchayat level. Special emphasis was placed on ensuring complementary feeding and improving diet diversity over time, aligning with the objectives of World Breastfeeding Week 2024.
The theme for this year’s celebration, “Closing the Gap – Breastfeeding Support for All Women Giving Birth in Maternity Hospitals,” was extensively promoted in the North & Middle Andaman District. Through various sensitization programs, families and communities were made aware of the existing gaps in breastfeeding support, and efforts were made to bridge these gaps. Home visits, in collaboration with Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) of different Gram Panchayats, were conducted to reach out to malnourished children as part of the Kuposhan Mukt Panchayat (KMP) campaign.
The culmination of these activities marks a significant step forward in promoting the health and well-being of mothers and children in the district, contributing to the overarching goal of a Kuposhan Mukt Panchayats in North & Middle Andaman.
Spot Admission for Leftover Seats at DBRAIT and Govt. Polytechnic Diglipur Scheduled for August 17
Port Blair, Aug 09: All eligible candidates who could not apply in the first and second phase of admission in the Common College Admission Portal (CCAP) and wish to take admission in DBRAIT Port Blair and Govt. Polytechnic Diglipur (GPD) can apply online through CCAP.
The portal will be opened from Aug.12 to 14. Once applied, such candidates may come for the spot round of admission directly on Aug. 17. The candidates who had applied earlier but could not attend the counseling can also attend on the above mentioned date. The candidates have been requested to bring one set of xerox copies of all the documents. The seats will be allotted on first-come-first-serve basis.
Accordingly, the spot admission for left out seats in the courses in DBRAIT institute for FOO FPO & DHMCT, and Diploma in Engineering all Branches and lateral entry in Dip. Engg. Branches will be held at DBRAIT Green Building Conference Hall on Aug. 17 and for Diploma Engineering Courses and lateral entry in Dip. Engg. Branches in Govt. Polytechnic Diglipur (GPD) at GMSSS Sita Nagar campus, Diglipur on Aug. 17. The reporting time for the candidates in r both the Institutes is from 9 am to 9.30 am

Power interruption in Port Blair & SA area in connection with various urgent maintenance works
Port Blair, Aug 09: It is brought to the notice of electricity consumers and the general public that power supply will remain completely suspended in the following area on 10.08.2023 (Saturday) from 0900 hrs. to 1200 hrs. for urgent maintenance work at 33/11 KV Garacharma Sub-Station.
