Port Blair, July 09: District Correctional Home, Mayabunder in coordination with the Dept. of Industries, Bakuntala conducted 01 month training programme on “Coconut Shell Handicraft” w.e.f. 10/06/2024 to 09/07/2024 for the inmates of jail at District Correctional Home, Mayabunder. In this training programme 25 Nos. of Jail inmates have been actively participated and learnt handicraft.
Shri. Mohammed Irshad Haider, Inspector General of Prison, visited the District Correctional Home, Mayabunder and inspected the jail premises.
Today on 09/07/2024, the training concluded in presence of the Shri. Ashish Joon, Assistant Commissioner (HQ), Mayabunder, Chief Jail Warden, other Security Personal, Incharge – Industries Department, Bakultala and trainers.
The Jail inmates were distributed sweets on the occasion, they performed patriotic songs during the closing ceremony. Further, AC(HQ) proposed to continue the training in Jail Campus with different trades and plans to engage inmates in fruitful and enterprising activities.
Several initiatives have been started by AC(HQ), Mayabunder like daily yoga, sports activities like volleyball, chess, carrom tournament & music learning along with regular health check up of inmates at RP Hospital, Mayabunder. Along with these, procurement of necessary items form inmates is regularly undertaken to ensure inmates become better citizens in the long run with skill development and engaging routine.

CRC A&N Islands organized One-Day Workshop on Empowering Teachers to Support Students with Learning Disabilities Conducted
Port Blair, July 09: In celebration of Learning Disability Week, the Composite Regional Centre (CRC) A&N Islands in collaboration with State Institute of Education, Shiksha Sadan, Port Blair successfully conducted a one-day workshop titled “Empowering Teachers to Support Students with Learning Disabilities” on 8th July 2024 at GSSS, Mohanpura. The workshop aimed to provide educators with the knowledge, skills, and strategies necessary to support students with learning disabilities effectively.The workshop brought together over 67 PSRT,PST, GTT and ICT instructors committed to enhancing educational outcomes for students with learning disabilities.
The event was inaugurated by Smti.Sangeeta Chand , Principal, State Institute of Education, who emphasized the importance of inclusive education and the role of teachers in fostering an environment where all students can thrive. In her speech, Mrs.Sangeeta Chand, Principal, SIE stated that it is the responsibility to ensure that every student receives the support and encouragement they need to succeed academically and personally. This workshop is a step towards equipping ourselves with the knowledge and tools to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment. Mrs.Sumithamol, Director, CRC A&N Islands welcomed the gathering. Mrs.Bhavani, Principal, GSSS, Mohanpura joined as special guest and Dr. D.Kondaiah, HOD, IED Cell, SIE and Mr.Raju, Coordinator, SIE also enlighten the session.
Mrs.Yogavathi Muthu.T, Special Educator cum Orientation and Mobility Instructor, CRC A&N delivered insightful sessions on Understanding Learning Disabilities: Causes, Types, and Identification,Utilizing Assistive Technologies to Enhance Learning & Creating an Inclusive Classroom Environment. The participants engaged in interactive workshops that provided hands-on experience with tools and techniques to support students with learning disabilities. These sessions encouraged collaborative learning and the sharing of best practices among educators.
Participants expressed their appreciation for the workshop, highlighting the practical knowledge and valuable resources they gained. “This workshop has equipped me with new strategies and tools to better support my students with learning disabilities.
The one-day workshop was a significant step towards empowering teachers to support students with learning disabilities. By providing educators with the necessary skills and knowledge, the event contributed to promoting inclusive education and ensuring that all students have the opportunity to succeed. The programme ended up with Vote of thanks delivered by Mr.Samueal Pitchai, BRP, DEO, South Andaman.
AYUSH to Organize Geriatric Health Care Camps Across Andaman for Elderly Support
Port Blair, July 9: A Geriatric Health Care Camp will be organized through AYUSH Ayushman Arogya Mandirs- (AAM) i.e. -Guptapara, Calicut, Sitanagar II, New Bimblitan and Teylerabad with the objective to provide vital support and care to the elderly and to their unique health needs.

Online Self-Nominations Open for National Teachers’ Award 2024
Port Blair, July 9: Online self-nominations have been invited from teachers for National Teachers’ Award 2024 on the occasion of Teacher’s Day on 5th September, 2024 by the Hon’ble President at New Delhi. The purpose of this award is to celebrate the unique contribution of some of the finest teachers in the country and to honor those teachers who through their commitment and industry have not only improved the quality of school education but also enriched the lives of their students.
This award is started with the object of raising the prestige of teachers and giving public recognition to the meritorious services of outstanding teachers working in Primary, Middle and Higher Secondary Schools.
The guidelines for this Award are as under:-
All school teachers and Heads of Schools working in recognized Primary/Middle/High/Higher Secondary Schools run by State Govt./UT Administration, local bodies, private schools affiliated by State Govt./UT Board are eligible for National Teachers’ Awards. In addition, Central Government schools, Schools run by Ministry of Defence, Schools run by Atomic Energy Education Society (AEES) and Eklavya Model Residential schools (EMRS) run by Ministry of Tribal Affairs and school affiliated to CBSE or CISCE are eligible for consideration for the award.
Only regular teachers and Head of Schools with minimum 10 years of services are eligible for this Award.
The applicants have been requested to follow the procedure to apply for online self-nomination as mentioned in the above portal.
Registrations for the self-nomination by teachers on the online web portal http://nationalawardstoteachers.education.gov.in is open from 27.06.2024 and last date for the same is 15.07.2024.
