Port Blair, July 3: The Port Blair Municipal Council is conducting eviction drive against illegal street vendors/hawkers within the Municipal area. In its continuous efforts to contain the encroachments over road side and footpath, PBMC has carried out extensive eviction drives in Lamba Line Road adjacent to the Airport yesterday to remove all the illegal Street Vendors/ Hawkers who have encroached the pathway and other places without valid documents and seized over 25 hawkers. The street vendors/hawkers have once again been directed not to do vending in the PBMC area without valid documents, if found so, necessary actions will be taken as per the procedure.

Awareness Program on ‘Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita’ Held Under Scheme Hub for Empowerment of Women
Port Blair, July 3: The Scheme Hub for Empowerment of Women aims to facilitate inter-sectoral convergence of schemes and programs meant for women both at the Central (NHEW), State/ UT level (SHEW) and District level (DHEW) with the mandate to create an environment in which women realize their full potential.
An awareness programme on the theme ‘Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita’ was recently conducted under the scheme Hub for Empowerment of Women (HEW) in the conference hall of Directorate of Industries. The programme was attended by Officers of Directorate of Social Welfare & Police Department, Staff of ICDS Project, Poshan Staff, HEW Staff and key stakeholders.
Smt. Rasheeda, Inspector from Police Department provided valuable insight into the ‘Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita’, highlighting its significance and implications. The Resource Person elaborated on various aspects of the law, ensuring the attendees, which included front-line workers and members of the public, were well-informed.
Shri Ashok Kumar Biswas, Probation Officer (JH) provided further information on the topic, enhancing the participants’ understanding of the law’s practical applications. This session was particularly informative for front-line workers and general public.
Further emphasizing on women empowerment, Ms. Reeta Devi (Welfare Officer (Women) discussed the importance of women’s empowerment in society and explained common legal acts (Dowry, Domestic Violence etc.) that protect and promote the rights of women. She also emphasized the importance of spreading awareness about the law at the grassroots level and encouraged women to actively participate in this dissemination of information.
Earlier, Smt. Zarina Bibi, Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) from ICDS urban Project welcomed the gathering.
Directorate of Industries Conducts Training on Bee Hive Box Manufacturing
Port Blair, July 3: A weeklong short term training programme was organized by the Directorate of Industries, A&N Administration to impart hands on training to the Officials of Agriculture Department at Extension Office, Department of Industries Port Blair, Diglipur, Bakultala, Hut Bay and Car Nicobar on manufacturing of Bee Hive Boxes. Altogether, 37 Officials of Agriculture Department and 22 trainees of Industries Department participated in the training program and were imparted basic skills and knowledge for making Bee Hive Boxes.
