Port Blair, Jun 19: In a beautiful ceremony today, the INTACH Andaman and Nicobar Chapter with support from The Directorate of Social Welfare gave away certificates to 45 lovely children from 5 childcare institutions under the care of the Directorate.
The ceremony was a culmination of a 30 days long workshop on Sculpting and Clay Modelling conducted by INTACH in its effort to conserve heritage and traditional craftsmanship. The resource person for the workshop was Mr. Promotho Mazumder, a renowned Sculptor of the islands who was recently felicitated at New Delhi with the Mr. Martand Singh Memorial Award.
The event was a blessed one with the gracious presence of lots of luminaries like Dr. Nitin Shakya, Director of Social Welfare and Mr. A. K. Biswas, Probation Officer, Mr. Promotho Mazumder, Sculptor and resource person, Mrs. Rubina Khatib Siddiqui, an eminent Child Counsellor, the islands are proud of, Mrs. Chinni Bhasker who recently organized a pottery workshop, again as an effort to conserve traditional practices, Mr. Arun Singh, a birding enthusiast and member of the Andaman Avian Club, Chadra Lekha, a budding author who just penned a lovely book on island cuisine called “From Sea to Surwa”, Mr. Madan Gupta, a social worker and eminent Advocate and Mr. Ration Rasheed, a devoted and beloved philanthropist from the islands.
The event was curated by Ms. Samhita Veda Acharya, Convenor, INTACH A & N Chapter with abundant support from Mr. Sajit Jaina, and Santosh, Volunteers, INTACH.

ANTCC Celebrates the 54th Birthday of Rahul Gandhi
Port Blair, Jun 19: On the 19th June 2024, the Andaman & Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee celebrated the 54th Birthday of Mr. Rahul Gandhi at the Congress Office, Port Blair. The celebration was marked by enthusiastic participation from party leaders and members, reflecting their deep respect and admiration for Rahul Gandhi .
The event commenced with a vibrant cake-cutting ceremony. The ANTCC President Mr. Rangalal Halder, accompanied by Ex-MP Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Senior Mahila leaders Mrs. Shanta Laxman Singh, MRS. Neelawathi, MRS. Ratna Kannan, Mahila Coordinator(South Andaman) MRS. Zubaida Begum, ANTCC Spokesperson Mr. Tamil Selvan, Block President Mr. Shaktivelu, PBMC Councillors MRS. Mangayakarasi, Mr. Y. Joga Rao and other party leaders led the proceedings, highlighted their dedication to the values and vision championed by Rahul Gandhi.
Following the cake-cutting, the celebration continued with a tree plantation drive. Party leaders and members actively participated in planting trees, reinforced their pledge to protect and care the environment.
Additionally, the event fostered a sense of unity and purpose among party Leaders, strengthens their commitment for societal betterment under the leadership and inspiration of Rahul Gandhi .

Sant Nirankari Mission to Host Nationwide Yoga Sessions for International Yoga Day
Port Blair, Jun 19: On the occasion of ‘International Yoga Day’ by Sant Nirankari Mission, Yoga Day will be enthusiastically organized in open spaces and parks by the guidance of local yoga instructors from 6.00 am in various branches of Sant Nirankari Mission established all over India on Friday, June 21.
The theme of this year’s International Yoga Day has been given by the United Nations as ‘Yoga for Women’s Empowerment’, which is undoubtedly the need of today’s time. Sant Nirankari Mission is also trying to enable women empowerment by implementing many welfare schemes from time to time, mainly sewing and embroidery centers, beautician courses, tuition centers etc.
Sant Nirankari Mandal’s social welfare in-charge Joginder Sukhija informed that since 2015, the Sant Nirankari Charitable Foundation, the social wing of the Sant Nirankari Mission, has been organizing the ‘Yoga Day’ program. Under this series, this year also ‘International Yoga Day’ program will be organized enthusiastically in the cities of almost every province of India.
Yoga is an ancient system of India through which spiritual, physical, mental and spiritual health is balanced. Regular practice of yoga can lead a stress-free life.
Yoga has special importance in the empowerment of women. In the present time, where women are making their significant contribution in household life and work; In such a situation, yoga is such an essential activity of their busy life, which helps them to fulfill all their responsibilities to the fullest.
Satguru Mata Sudiksha Maharaj has also given divine guidance to adopt a ‘healthy mind, easy life’ in her thoughts and has explained that we have to keep our body healthy and healthy considering it as the precious gift of Nirankar God.

Blood Donation Camp Organizes by CRC A&N Islands in hands with Pillar Health Centre and Ration Rasheed Foundation Pillar Health Centre, Port Blair
Port Blair, Jun 19: In commemoration of World Sickle Cell Anemia Day (19 June), the Composite Regional Centre (CRC) A&N Islands in hands with Pillar Health Centre and Ration Rasheed Foundation organized a significant blood donation camp at the Pillar Health Centre. This event aimed to enhance public awareness about sickle cell anemia and its challenges, while underscoring the crucial need for blood donations to support those affected by this genetic disorder.
The camp was officially opened by Mrs. Sumithamol, Director of CRC A&N Islands. In his speech, she highlighted the importance of community support in combating sickle cell anemia and thanked the volunteers and donors for their participation. She stressed that regular blood donations are essential in managing the disease and improving patient’s lives.
A proficient teamnursingsuperintendentof medical professionals including Sr.S.Scolastica, Nursing superintendent and Sr.Jessie, Administrative Officer from Pillar Health Centre conducted the blood collection process, ensuring it was safe and efficient. Donors underwent preliminary health checks to confirm eligibility, and detailed information was provided on the significance of blood donation.To respect the contributions of the blood donors, Mr. Abdul Rasheed, Director, Ration Rasheed Foundation sponsored refreshments for the donors.
The event garnered overwhelming support, with over 20 donors from various backgrounds, including local residents, healthcare providers, and members of social organizations. This turnout demonstrated the community’s dedication to aiding individuals living with sickle cell anemia.
