Port Blair, Feb 23: Regional Station (RS), Minicoy of ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair in association with Department of Fisheries, Lakshadweep deployed a “Fish Aggregating Device (FAD)” to aid livelihood security of fisher community of Minicoy islands on 17th February 2024.The FAD is a floating object designed to attract the pelagic tuna species after small succession change in floating and associated attracting devices. It is the technology which increases the productivity of fishes and reduces the fish searching time during the fishing operation.
To fulfill one of the long standing demand of the fisheries of UT, Lakshadweep, the team of Regional Station, Minicoy of ICAR-CIARI along with the Department of Fisheries on 17th February 2024,anchored the FAD at open ocean, of distance, 10.5 nautical miles from the shore (Lat: 80 26’ 0.7.38” N and long. 73011’ 0.32 E). The team of ICAR-CIARI, RS Minicoy, Dr. Gladston Y, Dr. S.M Ajina, Scientists & Mr. Shareefuddeen, Technician with the staff of Department of fisheries and the fishermen accompanied to the location during the deployment on the said date.
Dr. Eaknath B. Chakurkar, Director, ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair. & Dr. S. K Zamir Ahmed, Principal Scientist & Nodal officer, RS Minicoy, Lakshadweep expressed their happiness on the efforts taken by the Department of Fisheries & Fisherman society of Minicoy for fostering successful deployment of the FAD technology which is supported by RS, Minicoy of ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair.

Chess tournament rescheduled
Port Blair, Feb 23: The chess tournament for seniors to be organized by the Andaman Nicobar Chess Association in collaboration with the Chinmaya Mission Port Blair on 25th February 2024 has been postponed and will now be held on 3rd March 2024 at Chinmaya Mission Port Blair. Interested Players who are above 50 years old are requested to register their names along with Rs 100/- as entry fees at Chinmaya Mission Port Blair on or before 1st March 2024.

Port Blair Smart City Project to Conduct GIS Mapping Survey Across the City
Port Blair, Feb 23: Port Blair Smart City Project Ltd. will be conducting GiS mapping survey work across the city which will cover all households, commercial and other establishments including assets developed by various Departments etc. The survey work will be executed by team leaders of Allvy Software Solutions Pvt. Ltd, under ICCC project.
In this regard, citizens have been requested to cooperate and provide necessary documents such as property tax documents, water charge receipt payments and electricity bills containing land details etc. This will help to generate the Unique ID Number with QR code for every citizen household details and will provide a solution through single window.
Conclusion of Training Programme for Clerical Cadre by A&N Administration
Port Blair, Feb 23: The five-day peripatetic training programme on ‘Establishment Rules including Reservation in Service for SC/ST & OBC & PWD” and Checks on Delay’ for Office Supdts., Head Clerks, Higher Grade Clerks and Lower Grade Clerks of Amalgamated Clerical Cadre working in various Department of A&N Administration conducted by the Administrative Reforms & Training Wing of the Administration in association with the Institute of Secretariat Training & Management (ISTM), Department of Personnel & Training, Govt. of India, New Delhi concluded with a valedictory programme held at TGCE Auditorium today.
The Secretary (AR &Trg.), Shri A.S.P.S. Raviprakash, IAS was chief guest on the occasion. The Institute of Secretariat Training & Management (ISTM), Department of Personnel & Training, Govt. of India had deputed Shri Sandeep Mukherjee, Director, Department of Personnel & Training, (Institute of Secretariat Training and Management) Govt. of India, New Delhi and Shri Supriya Ghoshal, Special Secretary, Govt. of West Bengal and also Smti S. Pandiammal, Deputy Secretary(Hr. Edn. /Shipping) and Shri K.Palani, Office Superintendent, AR &Trg. Wing, Secretariat as a local faculty members for imparting the aforesaid Training programme. About 40 participants attended the training programme.
Science Centre, Port Blair to Host Sky Show and Jurassic Park Programme
Port Blair, Feb 23: The Science Centre, Port Blair shall be organizing a Sky Show tomorrow (Feb.24) between 5.45 pm & 6.45 pm. The programmes to be presented include description about the Planet- Jupiter & its satellites. Visitors shall be provided with a sky map of the sky over Port Blair for locating the planets and other celestial bodies. They can have the opportunity of viewing the Planet- Jupiter & its Moons popularly known as Galilean Moons called Io, Europa, Ganymede and Calisto through powerful telescope.
Further, there shall be a Jurassic Park (Light & Sound Programme) at 6 pm in which, visitors will get the opportunity to witness various types of pre-historic animals which existed in different period of evolution of the Earth through light & sound effect. The entry fee for the sky show will be Rs.10/- per head while for the Jurassic Park (Light & Sound Programme), Rs.20/- shall be charged per head.
