Port Blair, Jan 03: On the 02nd January, 2024, the Andaman Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee, led by ANTCC President Mr. Rangalal Halder and Campaign Committee Chairman Mr. TSG Bhasker, organized a street corner meeting at Ward No.02- Haddo and Ward No.08- Buniyadabad.
The gathering addressed pressing local issues, including the highest unemployment rate in A & N Islands, shutdown of issuing Quarry Permit to Islanders, the deplorable condition of NH-Road in N&M Andaman, frequent electricity load shedding, rising rates of LPG Gas Cylinders, Diesel, Petrol in the Islands, and the privatization of government sectors.
The Street Corner Meeting was effectively coordinated by Congress Leader Mr. Eswar Rao at Ward No.2, while ANTCC Chief Spokesperson Mr. K Ganeshan at Ward no. 08.
The event saw the participation of Mahila Congress Coordinator South Andaman Mrs.Zubaida Begum, City Congress President Mr. Mohd. Zubair, NSUI State President Mr. MA Sajid, City Congress Secretary Mr. C Ravi, City Congress General Secretary Mr. Raj Reddy, PBMC Councillors Mr. Y Joga Rao, Mrs. Laxmi Ganeshan and the Congress Leaders including Mrs. Fathima Imtiyaz, Mrs. Hameeda, Mrs. Fareeda, Mrs. Brindawathi, Mr. Jaykumar Nair, and Mr. Faiyaz Khan ( Faju), added grace to the meeting.

TSG Charitable Foundation distributes fruits among patients of AYUSH Hospital
Port Blair, Jan 03: In addition to the social service and to celebrate the New Year, the volunteers of the TSG Charitable Foundation led by it’s Chairman Mr. TSG Bhasker distributed fruits to patients admitted in the AYUSH Hospital, Junglighat in the presence of Dr. Kalyan, Deputy Director, AYUSH, Dr. Rekha, Specialist (Ayurveda) and all other hospital staffs.
Mr. TSG Bhasker interacted with the patients and enquired over their health condition. He also wished them a Happy New Year and prayed for their quick recovery.
Mr. Y. Joga Rao, Councillor, Ward No. 14, Mr. Saji Varghese, Social Worker, Mr. Ameer Bux, Programme Coordinator, TSG Charitable Foundation, Mr. Miraz, Social Worker and many others remained present in this philanthropic programme.
TSG Bhasker inaugurates Wind Ball Cricket Tournament at Haddo
Port Blair, Jan 03: The Wind Ball Cricket Tournament (League-cum-Knockout) organized by Gana Sai Youth Club commenced today at GSYC Ground, Ward No. 02.
The tournament was officially declared open by Mr. TSG Bhasker, Chairman, Campaign Committee, ANTCC in the presence of Mr. Y. Joga Rao, Councillor, Ward No. 14 and Mr. Eswar Rao, Congress Leader.
The tournament is aimed to provide a platform to the youths to showcase their talents and engage them in physical activities by also promoting health and wellness.
Mr. TSG Bhasker interacted with the players and advised them to keep away from the means of drugs for living a healthy and happy life besides contributing to the development of the Islands.
He also commended the efforts of Gana Sai Youth Club and Mr. Eswar Rao for organizing sports activities regularly.
A&N Traffic Police focused both on Enforcement and Education of traffic rules in the year 2023
Port Blair, Jan 03: The A&N Traffic Police takes pride in sharing pivotal updates on recent endeavors, augmenting road safety and traffic management in the city. The year wise achievements are as under:
Road Safety Education: Throughout the past year, the Traffic Police conducted an impressive tally of 61 awareness classes across diverse institutions, reaching approximately 10,000 individuals. These sessions aimed at instilling a sense of responsible road behavior, imparting knowledge on traffic regulations and stressing the significance of safe driving practices among students and the public.
Traffic Arrangements: The adept handling of traffic management during high-profile events such as VIP duties, national festivals, religious events, protests and the Island Tourism Festival 2023 stands as a testament to the Traffic Police’s commitment to ensuring seamless traffic flow and the safety of all road users during these significant occasions.
Removal of abandoned vehicles: Furthering their dedication, the Traffic Unit embarked on a campaign to remove around 80 abandoned vehicles from different parts of Port Blair city. This initiative not only uplifts the city’s aesthetics but also mitigates potential traffic hazards.
Traffic Warden Scheme: The successful implementation of the Traffic Warden scheme in schools within the South Andaman district continues to be a pivotal success. This scheme involves training teachers as traffic wardens to propagate responsible road behavior among their peers.
Road Agencies: Collaboration with various entities like the Port Blair Municipal Council, Andaman Public Works Department and other roadowning agencies resulted in the installation of essential road safety measures, including signage and road medians, fortifying the safety of road users.
Traffic Modernization: The modernization of the Traffic Unit, equipping staff with state-of-the-art gadgets like body-worn cameras, reflective jackets, and breath analyzers, empowers officers to efficiently handle diverse traffic situations.
Enforcement: Additionally, the unit has rigorously enforced laws through special drives against violators, focusing on offenses such as drunken driving, over-speeding, and auto-rickshaw violations. Notably, they’ve realized fines amounting to Rs. 1,09,59,200/- from 17,105 cases and registered 1,649 drunken driving cases in the past year.
Social Media complaints: The A&N Traffic Unit is actively addressing social media complaints and strategies to address reported issues swiftly and effectively ensuring a safer road environment.
Auto Rickshaw Permit Enforcement: In continuation of ongoing efforts to regulate transportation, a total of 324 significant number of auto rickshaw found of allowing non-permit holders to ply auto-rickshaws for earning purposes. The list has been forwarded to the Transport Dept. for necessary action. The A&N Traffic Police reaffirms its commitment to crafting a safer and more efficient traffic environment in Port Blair and earnestly urges everyone to abide by traffic rules for the collective well- of all road users.
Sports Meet organized for students with special needs at GSSS Bambooflat
Port Blair, Jan 03: The ‘Rotary Club of Port Blair,’ in association with ‘NGO-WITH YOU,’ successfully organized an inspirational sports meet at Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS), Bambooflat, dedicated to extraordinary students with special needs. The event took place on January 3, 2024, marking a significant day of celebration and empowerment for these young athletes.
The meet was graced by the presence of Mrs. M. Bhavani, the esteemed Gold medalist in the 2023 Khelo India para-athlete competition, who served as the Chief Guest. Her motivational speech, sharing personal experiences and encouragement, inspired the participants, affirming the importance of inclusivity in sports. Additionally, Mrs. Bhavani’s commitment to imparting vocational training to children with special needs was highly appreciated by all.
A highlight of the program was the Rotary Club of Port Blair’s distribution of essential kits to all the participants from GSSS Bambooflat. Awareness cum Fitness Programme Organised at Joggers Park under Directorate of Social Welfare
Port Blair, Jan 03: The Directorate of Social Welfare organized the Awareness cum Fitness Programme, the Hasgulla club as a part of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan at Jogger’s Park on 31st December, 2023 from 6:00 am to 7:30 am. The fitness program aims to promote drug awareness and encourage healthy lifestyles among participants. The event was attended by more than 30 participants, including children from CCI Darussalam Yathem Khan and the general public.
The 12th awareness and fitness program was graced by the presence of Shihan. MS Murgan is an expert in physical fitness and mental health. Notably known as an internationally recognized laughter and yoga ambassador, and possessing a rich background as an Ex. Sub Inspector of A&N Police (IRBN). Attendees are not only guaranteed joy and laughter through his guidance but also the wisdom of a seasoned professional.
Dr. Nitin Shakya, the Director of Social Welfare, also highlighted the importance of regular physical activity and emphasized the need for a healthy and active lifestyle, which is one of the most important things that keep a person fit for the challenges of day today life. Being physically active can improve our brain health, help manage weight, reduce the risk of disease, strengthen bones and muscles, and improve your ability to do everyday activities efficiently. He also explained about Laughter therapy a universal approach to reduce stress and anxiety, laughter has been used to influence cognitive behavior to improve and establish healthy physical, psychological, and social relationships.
The Drug Awareness cum Fitness programme will be conducted every Sunday at Joggers Park from morning 6.00 AM till 7.30 AM for the general public till the month of March 2024. A & N Administration Reschedules Trade/Skill Tests for Southern Islands’ Candidates
Port Blair, Jan. 3: The A & N Administration had issued a Press Release in the Daily Telegrams dated 28.12.2023 to attend the Trade/Skill Tests for the vacancies for which the written examination was held on 09.07.2023 for the Common Category of Group C Matric Level posts of different Departments under the A & N Administration. However, in this regard, a request received from the Deputy Commissioner, Car Nicobar, mentioning that due to non availability of Ships/Helicopters from the Southern Groups of Islands, the shortlisted candidates were unable to attend the Trade/Skill Tests at Port Blair within the stipulated date and time. Keeping in view of the circumstances, the A & N Administration has decided to conduct the Trade/Skill Tests for the shortlisted candidates of Southern Groups of Islands from 06.1.2024 to 08.01.2024.
