Diglipur, Dec. 11: In accordance with their proposed plan, the hoteliers, tour operators, and local residents of Swaraj Dweep held a dharna near jetty area of Swaraj Dweep.
According to information, Swaraj Dweep, an island of globetrotters is reeling under a number of problems like frequent power cuts, poor road conditions, inadequate health facilities, and concerns over the Ice Plant for the last couple of months. And it has reportedly adversely affected the tourism sector of the island. Tourism in the island is at stake owing to power outages for long hours while residents of Swaraj Dweep are plagued with poor road conditions, inadequate health facilities, etc they rued.
Troubled by these problems, the hoteliers, tour operators, and local residents of Swaraj Dweep took to the road and mounted the dharna today. They were seen standing with placards along both sides of the road and shouting, “Welcome to the island Sir, AC nahi chalega, wifi nahi chalega, TV nahi chalega, kutch nahi chalga, no power, no tower, no diesel, please support us sir, there is no power in the island”. “Local PRI members raised concerns with relevant departments time and again, yet, it yielded no fruitful result, situation hasn’t improved an inch, and hence this kind of protest is required to invite the attention of the Administration for redressal of these issues” opined the veterans of the island.
The protest shall continue until the issues are resolved, the irate protesters threatened.

Member of Parliament lays foundation stone for Installation of Flood Lights (LED) with backup storage along with construction of an open shed at Mithakhari
Port Blair, Dec 11: The Member of Parliament, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma today laid the foundation stone for Installation of Flood Lights (LED) with backup storage along with construction of an open shed at Mithakhari area of South Andaman.
The work with estimated cost of Rs. 40,62,763 has been sanctioned by the Member of Parliament after demands for the same were raised by residents and youths of the area for promotion of sports and cultural activities in the area.
Addressing the gathering the Member of Parliament urged the residents, especially youths of the area to make maximum use of this asset, once it is constructed. He said that he has confidence that Island youths can do wonders at the National and International level if they have proper ground and other infrastructure for practice.

Urgent Plea for Restoration of Mayabunder Dialysis Unit

Mayabunder, Dec 11: In a appeal to healthcare authorities, Mr. Abdul Siddique, former Pramukh of Mayabunder, has urgently requested intervention for the immediate restoration of the non-functional dialysis unit in Mayabunder.
Expressing concern over the situation, Mr. Siddique highlighted the challenges faced by dialysis patients in the absence of a functional unit in Mayabunder. Currently, patients are forced to endure arduous journeys to Port Blair, Rangat, or Diglipur, travelling through the deplorable condition of the National Highway -4.
The non-operational state of the dialysis unit has hugely impacted the lives of patients, aggravating their existing health conditions. Dialysis patients, already burdened with physical and emotional stress, face increased struggles due to the unavailability of essential healthcare services in Mayabunder.
Mayabunder, serving as a central hub between Diglipur and Rangat, plays a crucial role in providing medical assistance to residents from these tehsils. Hence, the urgent need for the seamless functioning of the dialysis unit in Mayabunder to ensure wider accessibility to vital healthcare services.
Mr. Abdul Siddique has appealed for immediate intervention and necessary directions to restore the dialysis unit. The reinstatement of this facility, he emphasized, would not only end the suffering of patients but also guarantee timely medical care for the entire region.
BJP workers burn effigy of Dheeraj Sahu at Diglipur

Diglipur, Dec. 11: Amid the news of raids by the Income Tax Department at the premises of Congress MP Dheeraj Sahu and mountain of cash recovery during the searches, the leaders of the BJP, burnt an effigy of Dheeraj Sahu in Diglipur today.
As per report, an effigy of Congress MP Dheeraj Sahu was burnt to cinders by the BJP leaders of Diglipur in front of the BJP Office, Diglipur in the morning hours today. The BJP leaders, workers and supporters shouted “murdabad” slogans against the Congress Rajya Sabha MP from Jharkhand and registered their protest against Mr. Dheeraj Sahu’s stash of massive cash at the premises linked to him. It is reportedly the “highest-ever” black money haul by any agency in a single operation. The protest was led by Mrs. Sunity Halder, BJP District President, Diglipur.
ANTCC President highlights the Crises of LPG Gas Cylinder in North & Middle Andaman
Port Blair, Dec 11: The Andaman Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee President Shri. Rangalal Halder has addressed a letter to the Chief Secretary, A & N Administration and has brought to light a pressing issue that demands immediate attention.
Shri. Halder said that the shortage of LPG gas cylinders in the Middle & North Andaman region has reached a critical point, impacting the daily lives of citizens for the past two months. Families are facing significant hardships as they grapple with the challenge of cooking meals, posing a serious threat to their well-being and hindering economic activities in the area.
In addition, He emphasizes the urgency of taking swift action to ensure the regular and timely supply of LPG gas cylinders in North & Middle Andaman to alleviate the current hardships faced by the residents and prevent further escalation of the crisis.
He has further requested to coordinate with relevant authorities, including the concerned departments responsible for LPG cylinder distribution and also underscores the importance of identifying the root causes of the shortage and implementing effective measures to resolve the situation urgently to mitigate the suffering of the residents in North & Middle Andaman.
Prompt Rescue Work – Fire Fighters Save Life
Port Blair, Dec 11: On Thursday, December 7, 2023, at 13:14 hours, Fire Station Garacharma received a rescue call from the Fire Control Room regarding a student who had fallen in the well at Saraswathi Shishu Vidya Mandir School, Pather Gudda.
Immediately, the firefighters responded and a Water Tender was deployed with rescue equipments on the spot.
On reaching the spot at approximately 13:18 hours, they demonstrated meticulous planning by placing an Aluminum Extension Ladder in the well.
Firefighter (PC/769 Mohammed Mustafa) immediately descended through the ladder and successfully rescued the 17-year old student.
The Fire Fighters from Fire Station Garacharma accomplished the rescue in less than 15 minutes, showcasing exemplary dedication, bravery, and an unwavering commitment to saving the life of a student.
The School Management, Parents, and the General Public praised the A&N Fire Service for their efforts in the line of duty.
The successful rescue operation was conducted by ASI, P Mohammed, In-charge Fire Station Garacharma and crew PC/1590 Ratan Das, PC/2140 Ambrose Tirkey, PC/1954 M. Ravi & PC(Dvr)/1339 Sish Ram under the supervision of Inspector Jagdish Varma. The overall operation was supervised by Shri. Sandeep, DANIPS, Dy.SP (Fire).
Para-Athlete M. Bhavani Clinches Gold at Khelo India Para Games-2023

Bhavani, a Para-Athlete has brought laurels to the Islands by winning Gold in the Khelo India Para Games-2023 being held at New Delhi. Smti M. Bhavani won Gold Medal in 100 mtrs Athletics (Women) event. It is to mention that for the 1st time, the Para-Athletics team of A&N Contingent is participating in the Khelo India Para Games-2023. More medals are expected in the upcoming events.
‘Viksit Bharat @2047: Voice of Youth’ Launched by Hon’ble Prime Minister
Port Blair, Dec. 11:The Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi launched the ‘Viksit Bharat @2047: Voice of Youth’ via video conferencing today. During the program, Prime Minister addressed the Vice Chancellors of Universities, Heads of Institutes and faculty members in the workshops organized at Raj Bhawans across the country to mark the beginning of this initiative.
In line with this, a program was organised in the Conference Hall of Raj Niwas by Higher Education Department of A&N Administration, in which, Admiral D K Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.), Hon’ble Lt. Governor, A& N Islands and Vice Chairman, Islands Development Agency graced the occasion in the presence of Shri Keshav Chandra, IAS, Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, other senior Officers of the Administration and Heads of Higher Education Institutions.
Panel discussions and workshops were also organised in all the 7 Higher Education Institutions in the Islands on various themes of ‘Viksit Bharat @2047: Voice of Youth’. More than 3000 students and 200 faculty members attended the session. The student speakers spoke on the theme of the programme.

One Day Tier-III Training Programme Held at M.G.Govt. College, Mayabunder
Port Blair, Dec 11: One day Tier-III training programme on “Ground Water Development & Management Practices” was conducted by Central Ground Water Board, Eastern Region, Kolkata under Ministry of Jal Shakti, Department of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation, Govt. of India on 06-12-2023 at Mahatma Gandhi Government College, Mayabunder, North and Middle Andaman, Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The inaugural session of this training program were chaired by Dr B.Prabhuram, Principal, Mahatma Gandhi Govt, College, Mayabunder as Chief Guest and Shri B B. Mondal, Asstt. Professor, Mahatma Gandhi Govt. College, Mayabunder as guest of honour. Total 103 participants out of which 77 female participants and 26 male participants from the students of Geography Department of the same college actively participated in this one day training program. Senior Scientists from Central Ground Water Board, Eastern Region, Dr. Kamalesh Chandra Mondal, Shri Sujit Sarkar, and Dr. Nilamoni Barman delivered lectures on ground water issues and challenges of Andaman and Nicobar Islands during the training program.
