Port Blair, Nov 20: The concluding function of 02 days orientation training to 10 Satellite Silai School teachers organized by Unnati with the support of Usha International Ltd., New Delhi and Perveen Charitable Trust for empowering the women through various economic activities using locally available raw materials concluded on 17-11-2023. On this occasion, Dr. Pranab Sarkar Tribal Welfare officer, Mrs. Pramila Kumari ex-Adhyaksha/ Zilla Parishad Member and Mr. A. K. Biswas retired Joint Director Agriculture were the special guests.
Mr. C. Mohammed President Unnati while welcoming the participants said we could provide quality training in tailoring with the support of Usha International Ltd., New Delhi and huge no. of candidates were trained in tailoring and there is need to utilize them. This trained manpower can be better utilized with the support of A&N Chamber of Commerce and ANIIDCO for which Unnati already requested the Administration to coordinate with them by the Rural Development Department. He further said, there is also tremendous scope for food processing on agriculture based products which can be exploited with the support and guidance of the Agriculture Department, therefore, we invited Mr. A. K. Biswas retired Joint Director Agriculture who because of his expertise in agriculture and knowledge proved himself one of the best agriculturists and improved his economic condition exceptionally. We may utilize his services for promotion of agricultural activities. We wish he would share his experience for the benefit of the participants and also encourage farmers to adopt floriculture considering the huge demand of flowers and import of flowers worth crores of rupees. He said flowers can be raised locally with the support of the Agriculture Department. The Municipal Council may allot a shop to SHG Federation in the Municipal Market for selling flowers.
He also welcomed Mrs. Pramila Kumari ex-Adhyaksha/ Zilla Parishad Member who was actively involved in women welfare activities and due to her dedication and hard work became Adhyaksha from an Anganwadi worker is an inspiration to others and requested her to share her experience for the motivation of women. Dr. Pranab Sarkar Tribal Welfare officer is a local youth actively working for the up-liftment of islanders by highlighting local problems and issues through media. He is playing a leading role in reaching the problems of islands to the concerned authority.
He also informed the participants to attend the food processing awareness camp being organized by Chamber of Commerce Kolkata in association with Food Processing Ministry on 24-11-2023 from 09 AM to 01 PM at Mansha Hotel followed by lunch. The Chamber of Commerce Kolkata requested Unnati to depute delegates and extend support as given to them by us in their last Food Processing awareness camp organized at Megapode a few months back but the delegates deputed by us were disappointed when the programme concluded without interaction. However, they assured the participants the opportunity to raise issues. He requested the women groups to avail the opportunity for resolving their problems. He further said we trained huge no. of trainees in tailoring.

Biswas, retired Joint Director Agriculture explained in detail and shared their experiences. They requested the participants to avail the benefits of various government schemes for their empowerment. They also assured their support for reaching their problems to the concerned authorities and appreciated the efforts of Unnati and its presence in the community for empowering women.
Certificates and tailoring guideline books issued by Usha International Ltd., New Delhi and dresses to weaker section children supported by Perveen Charitable Trust were distributed by Dr. Pranab Sarkar, Tribal Welfare officer, Mrs. Pramila Kumari ex-Adhyaksha/ Zilla Parishad Member and Mr. A. K. Biswas, retired Joint Director Agriculture.
For the best social work, Mrs., Vinisha was awarded for her good work by Unnati. In the interaction session, the trainees highly appreciated the training programme organized by Unnati with the support of Usha International Ltd., New Delhi and distributed dresses to weaker section children by Perveen Charitable Trust and giving them an opportunity for raising various important local issues. The 10 Satellite Silai Schools will start functioning with immediate effect in their respective locations for training needy interested candidates.

ANTCC Observes 106th Birth Anniversary of Indira Gandhi at Gandhi Bhavan
Port Blair, Nov 20: The Andaman Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee has observed the 106th Birth Anniversary of the remarkable Iron Lady, the First Women Prime Minister of India Late. Indira Gandhi on the 19th of November,2023 at Congress Office, Port Blair.
The ANTCC President Mr. Rangalal Halder has garlanded the portrait of Indira Gandhi which was followed by floral tributes by the Congress Party Leaders Comprising the Senior Leaders, Mahila Leaders, Frontal Organization’s, Social Workers and Others.
The Party Leaders paid tribute to the indomitable spirit and the leadership of Indira Gandhi.
Importantly, this occasion reflected on Indira Gandhi’s unparalleled contributions to women’s empowerment and her instrumental role in shaping policies for the nation’s development.
Valedictory Function of National Book Week at GSSS Kapanga Katchal
Port Blair, Nov 20: National Book week was observed in Govt. Senior Secondary School Kapanga Katchal, from 14th November 2023 to 20th November 2023.
The Vice –Chief Captain Mr. Samson has inaugurated the function by lightening the Deepak. In his address he focused on the need and importance of book and regular use of Library in day to day life. A short speech was also delivered by Mr. Suresh J. Panicker, Librarian and highlighted the importance of the Week.
Books on different subjects and topics were displayed for the students, Drawing, Essay writing, Reading, storytelling, Quiz and elocution Competitions were organized for the students of various groups. During the week teachers addressed the students on various topics in the morning assembly and highlighted the importance of Library and reading habits. First, second and third prizes were distributed to the winners. The concluding function of the National Book Week was held in the school in which SRO (Special Relief Officer) Katchal Mr. Mohamed Yusuf was the Chief Guest. He spoke on the importance of books and lauded the efforts for organizing such a wonderful exhibition. The SMDC members were also present at the closing function.
Meeting of the A&N State Organising Committee of CPI (M) held at Shaheed Bhavan, Anarkali, Port Blair
Port Blair, Nov 20: The meeting of the Andaman & Nicobar State Organising Committee of CPI (M) was held at Shaheed Bhavan, Anarkali, Port Blair today (20.11.2023). D. Ayyappan, Secretary, State Organising Committee presented the report on the activities of the Party since the last meeting.
G. Ramakrishnan, Polit Bureau Member of the Party reported the decisions taken in the meeting of the Central Committee of the party. He said that various issues pertaining to the islanders are pending for the last several years. He briefly explained the anti-people functioning of the government at the centre and stressed the need to challenge this authoritarian government which poses a serious threat to the democracy, secularism and constitution.
Speaking at the meeting, Dr Sujan Chakraborthy, Ex-MP and Central Committee Member of the Party called upon the Party leaders to work tirelessly for expanding the party in the islands. He emphasized the need to reach out to each household and explain the various anti-people policies being followed by the Modi government at the centre.
The meeting of the State Organising Committee has observed that there is no authority in the Administration to whom the grievances of the people can be lodged. The meeting expressed concern over the denial of permission for holding any public programme on Palestine issue in A & N Islands. The meeting decided to continue the agitation on NH4, rural and urban roads, frequent power cut, price rise and on other local issues of the people.
The meeting of CPI (M) State Organising Committee has decided to oppose the implementation of Smart Electric Meter project in the islands as it will lead to increase in power tariff, besides privatization of power generation, distribution and transmission in the islands.

Andaman Nicobar Pradesh Youth Congress observes 106th Birth Anniversary of Indira Gandhi to influence Women’s empowerment and Integrity to the Society
Port Blair, Nov 20: The Andaman Nicobar Pradesh Youth Congress demonstrated its commitment to women empowerment through a programme organized in observance of the 106th Birth Anniversary of the Iron Lady, the First Women Former Prime Minister of India Late. Indira Gandhi under the dynamic leadership of its President Ms. Diksha Dular and Vice-President Mr. Abhibhusan Ghosh along with the State General Secretaries Mr. H Yusuf and Ms. Kajal Kishen.
The programme was held at Congress Office, Port Blair on 18th of November, 2023 fostered a Commitment towards National Integrity and empowerment towards Women’s contribution in the Nation. ASA Junglighat Organizes cultural evening “Bijaya Sammelani O Diwali Programme”
Port Blair, Nov 20: Andaman Sangeet Academy (ASA) Junglighat, Port Blair, rganized a cultural evening “Bijaya Sammelani O Diwali Programme” on 19 November 2023, Sunday in the Chouldari Community Hall, at 5p.m. and Mrs. Tapasi Saha, Pradhan of Chouldari and Mrs. Chaitali Roy Panchayet Samiti was the Chief Guest in the occasion. Programme was started welcome speech by the Mr. Tapa Das, President of the Academy. After that one by one student, members presented a very cultural programme like Song, Dance and Keyboard and Tabla play in front of the gathering. Audience was mesmorised by the speech of Chief Guest’s. The programme concluded with the vote of thanks by Mr. Soumen Home Chowdhury, General Secretary of the academy. Dy. Commissioner SA kick starts “Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra” at Beodnabad, GoI flagship schemes highlighted
Port Blair, Nov 20: As a part of Govt of India’s engagement in the mission to popularize its flagship schemes all over the country, the A&N Administration has embarked on the task of generating awareness about these schemes among the target masses.
These schemes mostly focus on providing basic amenities like sanitation, essential financial services, Ujjwala Yojna, housing for the poor, food security, healthcare, clean drinking water, quality education, old age pension etc.
Addressing a large gathering of officials, PRI members and villagers at Beodnabad Panchayat’s community hall, today, Mrs. Veditha Reddy, Dy. Commissioner, South Andaman spoke about salient features of the welfare schemes launched by the GoI with a view to making required services available to all the targeted beneficiaries.
The UT Administration here, she said, is taking steps in this direction to ensure awareness of benefits to the Masses. With this aim to raise awareness through outreach activities to achieve saturation of schemes named “Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra” has been started in these islands, too.
The DC called upon the villages to reap the optimum benefit of the schemes. The campaign, she said, will continue in the next 50 days at different locations.
An IEC (Information, Education and Communication) van was also flagged off on this occasion which will be visiting different villages in the days to come.
Earlier, Mr. Parmasivam, Pradhan, Beodnabad Gram Panchayat welcomed the chief guest, Mrs. Veditha Reddy. She also visited a number of stalls put up by SHGs and various line departments on the venue. A thematic cultural programme was also organised on this occasion. The Sarpanch proposed the vote of thanks.
