Port Blair, Nov 19: North & Middle Andaman District Open Chess Championship 2023 was concluded successfully at Pokadera Community hall, Mayabunder today. The championship was organised by the North & Middle Andaman District Chess Association (NMADCA) under the aegis of Andaman Nicobar Chess Association (ANCA).
Mrs. P K Sandhya Prasad, Forest Ranger, Mayabunder Range was the chief guest for the opening ceremony who made the ceremonial first move on the top board to kick start the event in presence of organisers and office bears of NMADCA.
Around 30 players participated in the championship in which M Sanjay Kumar, secured first position while Rajesh Biswas, Y Srinivasalu and M Dhan Raju secured second, third and four positions respectively. These four players have been selected for the upcoming A & N State Open Chess Championship 2023 at Port Blair as official entries from North & Middle Andaman District and their lodging, boarding and travel expenses will be borne by the Andaman Nicobar Chess Association (ANCA).
Mrs. Archana Kumar, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat, Pokadera was the chief Guest for the closing ceremony while Mrs. P K Sandhya Prasad, Forest Ranger, Mayabunder Range was the guest honour. They gave away trophies and certificates to the winners.

6th Day Cooperative Week was celebrates at Sippighat panchayat Hall on the topic – Cooperative for Women, Youth and Weaker Sections
Port Blair, Nov 19: The 6th Day Cooperative Week was Celebrated at Sippighat panchayat Hall on the topic “Cooperative for Women, Youth and Weaker Sections”. Mr. John KanchanToppo, ARCS, (Rural) was the Chief Guest and inaugurated the function by lighting the traditional lamp. In his inaugural speech he appreciated the members of cooperative Societies for taken of various activities based on the resources available in their locality. He also said that the women folk can engage themselves in various activities like marketing, opening of tailoring, beautician activities, value addition in various products and establishment of wholesale and retail outlets for selling various products and handicrafts through formation of the cooperative societies. He further urged the gathering and members of SHGs to form cooperative societies for getting a legal identity.
Mr. Rana Basak, Supdt. of Fisheries explained the importance of the cooperative societies and briefed about the subsidy schemes and benefits of the schemes available in the department of Fisheries. He also gave the detailed descriptions about the function of women cooperative societies, adoption of subsidy schemes like culture fisheries, Hatchery establishment, Ice plants and cold storage, cage culture, mechanized and deep sea fishing vessel, ornamental fish culture and seaweed culture.
The function was attended by the staff of Coop. Dept., ANSCU, RGCTC, Members of Cooperative Societies, SHGs and the villagers. A total of 46 participants have benefited from this programme.
Earlier welcome address was proposed by Mr. Anant Rao, Vice Chairman, ANSCU and the programme was concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Ms Sumitra Kumari.
e-KYC Initiative for Ration Card Holders: Deadline Nov. 30, 2023
Port Blair, Nov.19: All Ration Card holders of the UT have been informed that the Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs has initiated the e-KYC of every member present in the respective Ration Card as per the mandate and directions of the Govt of India. Hence, all Ration Card holders (APL/PHH & AAY) have been requested to contact any of their nearest Fair Price Shop along with Aadhaar numbers and Ration Card to get e-KYC done for all the members listed in the Ration Card latest by 30th November, 2023.
Ration Card holders can also approach Room No. 20 of the Directorate of CS&CA, Port Blair and also their respective Supply Offices in other Islands for doing their e-KYC. Further, All Fair Price Shop dealers have been requested to make wide publicity among their respective Ration Card holders and get their e-KYC done latest by 30th November, 2023. FPS dealers have been strictly directed not to deny any members of the Ration Card holders from doing their e-KYC. Any problem related to e-KYC if faced by any FPS dealers should be reported to the Department without any delay. Denial for e-KYC shall be viewed seriously.

State Institute of Education to Conduct NMMSS Examination on Dec. 29, 2023
Port Blair, Nov. 19:The State Institute of Education, Port Blair will be conducting the NMMSS Examination in A&N Islands on Dec. 29, 2023 under the guidance of Ministry of Education (MoE). The Selection Test/ Examination will be conducted to select students presently studying in Class VIII (Eight) for award of Scholarship under the centrally sponsored scheme National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) for the academic session 2023-2024.
Students who have secured minimum 55% marks or equivalent Grade in class VII examinations (relaxable by 5% for SC/ST candidates), presently studying in Class VIII (Eighth) in Government, Govt. Aided and Local Body Schools of State/ UT and whose parental income does not exceed Rs.3.5 Lakh per annum from all sources are eligible to appear in NMMSS Examination.
The students of Kendriya Vidyalayas, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas and Residential Schools run by State Government and Private unaided Schools are not eligible for scholarship under the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS).
NMMSS examinations students have to produce Mark Statements of the qualifying examinations (i.e. Mark Statement of Class –VII for NMMSS examination). To appear in the NMMSS Examination, students should produce parental Income Certificates issued from Revenue Authority not below the rank of Tehsildar concerned with their application forms. Category Certificate are also to be produced by the candidates who come under reserved categories.
Application forms can be obtained from the Office of the Principal, State Institute of Education, Port Blair/Zonal Education Officers of Education Department.
Application forms duly filled in all respect along with supportive documents should be submitted in the Office of the Principal, SIE/ Nodal Officer, NTSE& NMMSS on or before 30th November, 2023. SVAMITVA Scheme: Property Cards Facilitate Financial Benefits
Port Blair, Nov. 19: The Government of India launched a Centre Sector Scheme known as Survey of Villages Abadi and Mapping with improvised Technology in Village Areas (SVAMITVA) to bring financial stability to the citizens in rural India by enabling them to use their property as a financial asset for taking loans and other financial benefits.
Accordingly, Property Cards were issued to the eligible persons. The Administration and Revenue Department encourages people to use Property Cards as it is much easier and digital to apply for loans and financial benefits of Government of India. The eligible person may access the property card through http://db.and.nic.in/propertycard.
The Revenue Department has convened a meeting with Lead Bank, SBI along with other scheduled banks and also encouraged them to use property cards as part of their documentary requirements for various public sector schemes to enhance the usage and popularity of Property Cards.
Change in schedule of vessel Nalanda to Little Andaman
Port Blair, Nov 19: Passengers/general public have been informed that due to Administrative reasons, the scheduled departure time of the vessel Nalanda to Little Andaman on Nov.20, 2023 at 0800 hrs from Port Blair has been revised. Now, the vessel will sail for Little Andaman on the same day at 2200 hrs from Haddo Wharf and will sail back to Port Blair on Nov.21 at 0800 hrs from Little Andaman.
National Book Week-2023 organized by the Directorate of Education
Port Blair, Nov 19: As part of National Book Week-2023 observance, a programme on motivational/career guidance was organized by the Directorate of Education in the Mini Conference Hall at State Library, Port Blair. ‘Select a career in which you have passion and interest so that you will enjoy your work”, was the clarion call given by all the Officials/resource persons from about 7 Departments who delivered motivational talk on career guidance for school students of class VIII & IX.
A motivational talk was given by Mr. N Bala Krishnan, HoD, Political Science, JNRM who emphasized on preparation for competitive exams. Mr. K Sunil Kumar, BE, ME, Trainer, Govt. ITI, Dollygunj highlighted on courses which are available at Govt. ITI, Dollygunj. Mr. P Kaliswaran, Faculty, State Bank of India, Port Blair dwelt on the skill development programmes organized by SBI-RSETI. Mrs. K Binu, Assistant Employment Officer, Model Career Center highlighted the role of Model Career Center (Employment Exchange). Mr. P Jeevan, SI, Police Station Aberdeen, Port Blair explained in detail about the qualifications and other requirements for joining the Police force. Dr. Neena Alex, Medical Officer, DHS explained about the various professions in the medical sector.
Er. Johnson Abraham, Member, State Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission (State Commission), A & N Islands summed up the career guidance session. Earlier, Mr. Anbarasan, In-charge, State Library welcomed the gathering.

Port Blair, Nov 19: Firing practice will be carried out at Baffle Range on Nov. 22 and Chinthe Long Range on Nov. 29 for Small Arms Firing practice from 9.30 am to 1 pm and 2 pm to 5 pm (Day Firing) and 5.30 pm to 7.30 pm (Ni Firing). All concerned have been warned to keep themselves and their livestock away from the firing area during the above mentioned date and time.
Death Mourned
Port Blair, Nov 19: Mr. Vishal Jolly, National Executive Member BJP & Former State President BJP-ANI has deeply mourned the sad demise of Mr. Moses Reuban, Second Captain of Perka village Car Nicobar, who left for heavenly abode on 18-11-2023. Mr. Jolly prayed to the Almighty for the eternal peace of the departed soul and to give strength to his bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss.
