Port Blair, Nov 15: National Book week is being observed in Govt. Senior Secondary School Kapanga katchal, from 14th November 2023 to 20th November 2023. The Vice- Chief Captain, Tribal Council, Katchal Island Mr. Samson inaugurated a “Book Fair” in the School Library on 14th November speaking on the occasion, the Vice – Chief Captain highlighted that reading is an essential part of learning and the students must develop reading habits. A short speech was also delivered by Mr. Suresh J Panicker, Librarian and highlighted the importance of the week .Many activities like Drawing, Elocution, Essay writing and Quiz Competition etc, choked out for the “National Book Week 2023”.

70th All India Cooperative Week, 2nd day celebration held at the community hall Ferrargunj
Port Blair, Nov 15: In continuation of 70th All India Cooperative Week, the 2nd day celebration was held at the community hall Ferrargunj. Theme of the Day was Revitalization of Non-Credit Cooperatives and Financial Inclusions. The Chief Guest of the day was Mrs. Shaban Banu, AGM NABARD. She has inaugurated the programme by lightning a lamp. In her inaugural speech she highlighted the importance of Finance and Financial Institutions for the betterment of societies and further advised the gathering to take active participations for the promotion of cooperative societies & Self help groups. She informed that each and every member of the society are responsible for upliftment of socio-economic status of the villagers and also mentioned about the requirements and needs of the members through raising their voice with concern authority. Further she informed the gathering in detail about the insurance policies like “Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojna and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojna” and advised the members to avail these facilities.
Mr. Swaran Singh Director ANSCU spoke about the development of cooperative societies in the Islands and Mr. Bittu S Nathan Coop Inspector (RCS) as created awareness for the formation of a new cooperative society, SHGs and its benefits and role for the development of area.
The programme was attended by about 80 participants including PACS members, Primary Cooperative Societies, SHGs, Villagers, officers of Coop Dept. ANSCB and ANSCU.
Earlier the welcome address was proposed by Mr. Ajay Biswas Director Federation and the programme was concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Nagesh Ram, Principal RGCTC.
Advisory for the post of Food Safety Officers
Port Blair, Nov.15: All the candidates who have appeared for the CBT examination held on 31st August, 2023 for the post of Food Safety Officers in the Andaman &Nicobar Administration have been informed that the answer keys of the examination was published in the Administration portal on 28th Sept, 2023 and objection /claims were invited.
All the claims and objections were addressed by the examination conducting agency and the revised answer key will be uploaded on the portal https://erecruitment.andaman.gov.in/crap. on 16th Nov, 2023.
Joy and happiness for inmates of Abhyudaya Complex
Port Blair, Nov, 15: The Directorate of Social Welfare took the initiative to bring joy and happiness to the inmates of Abhyudaya Complex as they celebrated Diwali and Children’s Day. This special event aimed to create a festive atmosphere for the residents and provide a memorable experience for all inmates. The Diwali celebration at Abhyudaya Complex was a vibrant display of lights, colors, and enthusiasm. The inmates came together to observe the auspicious festival by lighting diyas (traditional oil lamps), along with the exchange of sweets and greetings. This act of unity and togetherness greatly uplifted the spirits of those residing in the complex and created a sense of belonging within the community.
In addition to celebrating Diwali, the Directorate of Social Welfare treated the residents of Abhyudaya Complex to a joyous Children’s Day event. The day was dedicated to honoring the Divyanjan (specially-abled individuals) and other children living in the complex. Through various engaging activities, the children were given an opportunity to showcase their talents and foster creativity. As part of the festivities, a drawing competition was organized, allowing the children to express themselves through art and unlock their artistic potential.
The drawing competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from the children of Abhyudaya Complex, displaying their remarkable skills and imagination. The event proved to be an inspiring platform that encouraged them to explore their artistic abilities while spreading joy among the attendees.

District Health Society, SA conducts training on HBYC in coordination with Directorate of Health Services and Union Territory Health Mission
Port Blair, Nov 15: The District Administration through its District Health Society, South Andaman Has conducted training on Home Based Young Child Care (HBYC) in coordination with Directorate of Health Services and Union Territory Health Mission, A & N Islands on 15.11.2023, wherein 90 Nos of ASHA workers of South Andaman District have been trained. HBYC shall ensure the continuum of care from the time of birth and help us meet the objective for adequate complementary feeding, growth monitoring, vaccinations and sickness related counselling in early childhood.
Ms.Veditha Reddy, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman has inaugurated the HBYC training in presence of Sri Dilkhush Meena, IAS, Additional District Magistrate, South Andaman and Dr.Suja Anthony, Director of Health Services. The Deputy Commissioner asked the participating ASHA workers that being a community level worker, this training will upkeep their skill to deliver the home based health care services to the young child. Further, she added that under nutrition makes children in particular much more vulnerable to disease and death. Hence, this initiative must improve the health indicators among the children of these Islands such as wasting, stunting, underweight, and deficiencies in vitamins and minerals by conducting proper screening and monitoring under Home Based Young Child Care.
Additional District Magistrate, South Andaman asked the ASHA workers to avail the benefits of HBYC training and also asked to share their views & issues in terms of the health facilities in the field level, so that District Health Society & Health Department will address the same.
Director of Health Services also informed that under HBYC ASHA worker will visit home starting from 3 months and continuing in second year till 15 months to plug the gap between health system contacts with family and provide platform to improve child nutrition, immunization, development, hygiene practices and reduce common childhood illnesses such as diarrhea and pneumonia.
Earlier, Dr.Swetha, GDMO (RBSK) welcomed the gathering and Mr. B. Nagendra, District Programme Manager, DHS (SA) has concluded the training with the vote of thanks to the dignitaries and participants attended.
Exhibition held at Sr. Sec. School, Rangachang
Port Blair, Nov 15: A Science, Maths & Craft Exhibition was held today at Sr. Sec. School, Rangachang, South Andaman which was inaugurated by Mr. S. Boominathan, Up-Adhyaksh, Zilla Parishad, South Andaman. The exhibition was jointly participated by the students of Secondary School Calicut, Middle School Bimblitan, Middle School Beodnabad and Sr. Sec. Kamaraj School. The exhibition consisted of 54 stalls exhibiting models on various topics of science, Maths and Craft.
Mr. Shyamal Majumdar, Principal, teachers, students, community PRI members and general public visited the exhibition in large numbers and appreciated the effort put in by the students in preparing models depicting various aspects of development.
Foundation Day of Jharkhand celebrated
Port Blair, Nov.15: As part of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ initiative and as per directives of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India, the Foundation Day of Jharkhand was celebrated enthusiastically on 15.11.2023 in Raj Niwas. People hailing from above State participated in the function. During the event, an extensive interaction and experience sharing session was also conducted. A short documentary on Foundation Day of State of Jharkhand was screened and tribute was paid to Bhagwan Birsa Munda during the function. The function ended with high tea, group photograph and presentation of memento to invitees.
The participants thanked MHA, Govt. of India and Raj Niwas, Port Blair for the initiative and in providing them opportunities and platform for interaction.
