Observing of National Police Commemoration Day by A&N Police
Port Blair, Oct 19: As the nation gears up to observe National Police Commemoration Day on 21st October, solemn tribute will be paid to the brave men and women of various Central Armed Forces (CAFs), Central Police Organizations (CPOs) and States/UTs Police forces, who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty by A&NI Police at Police Lines, Port Blair. This day holds great significance as it serves as a poignant reminder of the selflessness and dedication exhibited by our law enforcement/security personnel. Till now, 53 Nos. of Police personnel of A&N Police have lost their lives in line of duty serving for our nation.
The highlight of the ceremony will be a heartfelt parade featuring about 100 dedicated police personnel. These brave souls will march with pride and honor, embodying the very spirit, which our fallen heroes represented. Other events will include an address and reading out the names of martyrs by the Chief Guest Mr. Devesh Chandra Srivastava, IPS, DGP A&N Islands commemorating the police personnel, who laid down their lives while discharging their duty across the country, placing wreaths at the memorial at police lines by Senior/Retired police officials and a two minute silence remembering the fallen heroes.
It is worth mentioning that National Police Commemoration Day is observed every year on October 21st, for honoring the sacrifice and valor of our Law Enforcement Heroes and to honor the memory of the brave police personnel, who give the supreme sacrifice while serving and protecting our nation. Pertinently, on 21st October 1959, a group of Indian police personnel, who were patrolling the Indo-Tibetan border in Ladhak, faced an armed invasion by Chinese forces. In this fierce and unexpected confrontation, ten police personnel displayed remarkable courage and determination, ultimately sacrificing their lives, while defending India’s sovereignty.
The brave souls who lost their lives in the incident were posthumously awarded the Ashoka Chakra, India’s highest peacetime Gallantry Award. To honor their memory and the memory of countless other Police officers who lose their lives to protect the nation day in and day out, the Government of India declared 21st October as ‘National Police Commemoration Day’.
It is a day of reflection and gratitude, when we come together as a nation to pay tribute to the resilience and unwavering commitment of our officers & personnel of various police organizations/forces.
