Month skill development training programme on Food Production and Bakery
Port Blair, Jan 16: To raise the skill level and open livelihood opportunities for local unemployed youth of the Islands in the Hospitality sector, the Tourism department, A&N Administration in collaboration with the Department of Hotel Management of DBRAIT has commenced one month skill development training programme on the subject “Food Production and Bakery” from 16th January, 2017 at DBRAIT, Pahargaon, Port Blair. Under this course, the students will get an opportunity to learn the basic techniques for preparation of menu such as Indian, Continental, Chinese etc. along with the method for preparing cake, puffs pastry, biscuits and pizzas etc. The fee for above course is Rs.3,000/-.
The Tourism department in collaboration of DBRAIT has decided to organize this course as well as Hospitality certificate course in “Food and beverage services and accommodation operation” in regular intervals on batch wise. The interested inter islands candidates who join the programme will be provided with free dormitory accommodation with nominal boarding charges. Diglipur Celebrates Pongal Festival

Diglipur, Jan16: The harvest festival of Pongal was celebrated in Diglipur with traditional gaiety and fervour today. Tamizhar Sangam Diglipur and Thiruvalluvar youth club organized various sports and competitions on this occasion.
Special Gau poojas were performed at different places here to mark the ‘Mattu Pongal”celebrations.
The main function was held at Tamizhar Sangal hall at Diglipur Bazaar. Asst Commissioner Diglipur, Shri Awanish Kumar, IAS was Chief Guest on this occasion. Floral tributes were paid to Shri Thiruvalluvar by the chief guest and other dignitaries. Traditional cultural programmes followed by prize distribution for the games and various competitions like musical chair,Rangoli, Thirukkural recitation, elocution competitions which were held during the festival.
Speaking on this occasion Pradhan Subhash gram Smti Alpana Mondal, President, Tamizhar Sangam Shri P R Singaram, Secretary, Shri K V Raj, Ex ZP Adhyaksh Shri K Srinivasan, Nehru Yuva Kendra Coordinator Shri Jag jeevan Ram described the importance of Pongal in these Islands.

Cyclone causes power cuts in N&M Andaman

Diglipur, Dec 07: Dec: As heavy rains lashed entire Andaman & Nicobar Islands the North & Middle Andaman also suffered some brunt of the cyclonic weather conditions.
Severe power cuts throughout North Andaman have been witnessed since yesterday.
Due to heavy winds several power lines snapped at many places, like the one from Kalara junction to Mohanpur which has a stretch of about 55 KM area. The entire area is under total darkness since yesterday.
The Electricity department is working round the clock for restoration of power situation.
BSNL connectivity is giving nightmares in Baratang, Rangat, Mayabunder and Diglipur regions. The landlines are only functional near telephone exchanges. Due to lack of mobile connectivity and continuous power snapping the public are heavily suffering.
Speaking to Andaman Sheekha Asst. Commissioner of Diglipur region, Mr A K Trivedi said that the Disaster Management team is on high alert and there is no report of any major untoward incident till now. The situation is under control and the Disaster management team is active 24×7 and monitoring the situation”.
Naresh Chander Lal meets Lt Governor, Prof Jagdish Mukhi

Evening Mass Dharna by NGGOA
Port Blair, Nov 06: The Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association, A & N Islands is organising an “Evening Mass Dharna” on 7th November, 2016 from 4 pm. to 8 pm at Tiranga Park, Port Blair as part of 2nd phase of Nation -wide agitation programme called by Confederation of Central Govt. Employees & Workers, New Delhi against non-implementation of the assurances given by Group of Ministers to NJCA on 30th June,2016 regarding increase in minimum wages and fitment factor, retaining various allowances etc. of govt. employees. The agitational programme is organised for early settlement of the justified demands of the Central Government Employees and Pensioners without any further delay. Other demands include regularisation of all Causal/DRM employees, withdrawal of “Very Good” as bench mark for promotion/MACP and annual increment, etc. Similar programmes will be organised in out-stations also.
Private Security Agency by Tribal Youths registered
Port Blair, Oct 31: The first ever private security agency run by a Tribal youth from Central Nicobars ‘Rayhaan Agency’ has been registered by the Secretary (Home), A&N Administration on 27th Oct. 2016.
The agency is run by a progressive tribal youth Mr. Rayhaan Pasha, who aims to employ as many tribal youths from Nicobars in the field.
Rayhaan feels that his community members are physically fit and more importantly sincere and committed, which will ensure best services to the Govt. departments.
Rayhaan has also extended his gratitude to the A&N Administration especially to the Lt. Governor and the Chief Secretary for having considered a tribal firm for registration for the first time in the history of Nicobar.

Walk-in-Interview for ANCOL panel of Guest Faculty
Port Blair, Oct 17: The Andaman College (ANCOL), Port Blair proposes to prepare a panel of Guest Faculty/ Resource persons to deliver lecture in ANCOL on “as and when required” basis for the academic session 2016-2017 in the discipline of Psychology. The resource persons shall be paid Rs 1000/- per lecture (02 Hours) to a maximum of Rs 25000/- per month. The assignment is purely on temporary basis depending upon the availability of teaching work load in the concerned subject.
The engagement of the Guest Faculty/ Resource persons will be in accordance with the Recruitment rules/UGC guidelines in force. Candidates possessing good academic record with at least 55% marks at the concerned Masters Degree level having PhD/NET shall be preferred. In case of non availability of NET qualified candidates, candidates with PhD or MPhil having required percentage of marks in PG shall be considered.

Legal awareness camp held at Kalighat

Kalighat, 13Oct: A legal awareness camp was held at Kalighat, Diglipur on Thursday. Inaugurating the awareness camp at community hall at Kalighat Shri Siddartho Kanjilal, the District & Session Judge
emphasized that the people must know about their legal rights and the benefits available under various welfare programmes being implements as per the legislations passed in the parliament.
He further added that the poor litigants are need not to worry for the court expenses as the court can provide a advocate free of cost for them.
Addressing the participants, Judicial Majistrate First class, Mayabunder, informed that the role of the alternate dispute redressal forum called as the Lok Adalats in ensuring speedy delivery of justice has been realized and proved successful everywhere.
The villagers interacted with the Judges about various issued like encroachment regularization, accident cases, attendance in courts, rights of public in refusal of FIR in police station etc.
The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) organized this awareness camp. In the earlier Pradhan Ramnagar Shri Swapan Biswas welcomed the Guests. Pradhan Kalighat Smti Puspa Rani Mondal, Pradhan Nabagram Shri Niranjan Baroi, Panchayat Samiti Member Kalighat Shri Sukram Kashyap and Advocate Shri P.K.Shiva Kumar were present on this awareness camp.
