Port Blair, June 23: In a commendable move a remote village of these remote Islands organized a very crucial discussion on a topic, which even the massive Administration failed to focus.
The Panchayat of Chouldary, South Andaman on Saturday organized a discussion on “rising incident of accidents on NH4” inviting prominent officials and people from civil society.
Of late several accidents have been reported on the newly constructed stretch of Andaman Trunk Road and because of this reason discussion like this, became very crucial.
During the meeting invited people highlighted important issues regarding the road accidents and many proposed measures to minimize the number of road accidents.
Several resolutions were taken during the meeting such as very strict action should be taken by Department of Police for those who drive under the influence of alcohol; Traffic Police should extend their area limit upto Tusnabad; Action against cattle owners if cattle found straying on ATR; Secretary, RD should take appropriate step to catalyse Gram Panchayat to take action on stray cattle on Highway; NHIDCL should provide better Highway standard Street lights with long bent pipes; NHIDCL should use display boards at accidents prone areas; NHIDCL should use plastic speed breakers of low and small sizes, which are in use on other Highways across country; Department of Police should take very strict action on minors, riding motorcycle; NHIDCL should prepare parking space at important schools junction like Port Mout; Three Picketing barricade will be put up at Dhanikhari, Chouldari and Tusnabad ad CC Cameras should be installed in village areas by Traffic Police or Highway Police to keep an eye on traffic rule violators.
