Port Blair, April 28: The lone Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Home Minister and Minister of Shipping to provide an insurance cover of fifty lakhs and proper Personal Protective Equipments for the crew members of passengers ships, in case ships of Andaman and Nicobar Administration is asked to sail for Western Coast of India for COVID-19 relief.

In a letter addressed to the Home Minister and Minister of Shipping, Mr. Sharma stated that if the above-mentioned instructions to the passenger ships of Andaman and Nicobar Islands is a fact, then safety and protection of crew members from COVID-19 virus is must, hence, he requested for PPEs for crew members as per the SOP.

Mr. Sharma further proposed the ministers for providing special insurance coverage of Rs. 50 lakh similar to that provided to health workers fighting COVID-19 in Government Hospitals and Health Care Centers under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana (PMGKY) to the crew members as they may also risk their life-fighting COVID-19 virus.

Port Blair, Apr 28: The Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Administration, Mr. Chetan Sanghi on Monday said that over 7,100 Corona Virus tests per million population are being conducted in the Union Territory.

In his tweet on Monday he said that the Andaman and Nicobar is chasing COVID-19.

“With over 7100 tests per million population, Andamans is chasing the Virus, and not the other way around,” he tweeted.

Yesterday, the Chief Secretary had tweeted that there are sufficient supplies, medicines, equipment on the islands and added that the highest contact tracing, testing, and quarantine was being done.

Port Blair, Apr 25: Today, at around 8.30 am, information was received from Shantipur village to Billyground Police Station that a stray bull has fallen into a deep pit. As soon as the information was received at the Billyground Police Station, Mr. Deben Rai, SHO PS Billyground immediately proceeded with the team to the site with the Billyground Fire Station staffs to help the Bull.

The Police and Fire Service Staffs after a lot of efforts managed to pull out the Bull from the pit and saved a precious life. The farmers of Shantipur region expressed their heartfelt gratitude towards Police and Fire Service Staffs for helping the bull, in distress.

Port Blair, Apr 25: A team of PS Karmorta who were in a search operation since 19 April 2020 has been successful in apprehending seven poachers from Kakana Village of Kamorta at around 6.30 AM today. However, nearly six other poachers are still believed to be inside jungle and search for them is already on.

The staffs of PS Karmorta braved the difficult terrains and are successful in catching these poachers, villagers added. The search operation was launched following an input.

 

Port Blair, Mar 31: The Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman District has ordered to register FIR against Shri Farzand Ali, R/o Dugnabad and Shri S. Rehman, R/o Round Basthi who have been recently tested positive for COVID -19 for continuously misleading the contact tracing in tracing their contacts and giving wrong information of the places they had visited during the home quarantine period apart from violating the terms and conditions of Home Quarantine.

    Any delay in tracing of contacts may lead to the spread of the COVID-19 in the Islands and  in view of this, the above mentioned persons are liable to be prosecuted U/s 269, 271 and 188 of the IPC and Section 51 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005.

Port Blair, September 09: Around 20 commercial Vehicle Associations called a bandh today in relation to the conundrum they are facing in their day to day life like for getting permits, traffic chaos, bad roads etc.

Hundreds of people were seen protesting in the Tiranga Park, Mohanpura.

As per reports, altogether 20 demands were kept in front of the administration wherein they demanded a separate independent RTO office, increase in tariff for prepaid taxi and auto rickshaw.

The commercial vehicle associations also demanded the administration to construct safe roads as it remains fit for public services and all vehicles.

The association demanded construction of thoratang bridge immediately.

They also demanded the administration to construct Private bus stand like main government bus terminus. There were several other demands kept in front of the administration.

The Member of Parliament, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Mr Kuldeep Rai Sharma as well as BJP party president, Mr Vishal Jolly also visited the protestors for extending their support to them.

Due to the bandh Citizens of the Port Blair city had to face a lot of trouble. Many remained on a leave and some had to postpone their trip to North and Middle Andaman.

According to sources, members of all the association’s were called by the Sub Divisional Magistrate at around 09:00 pm.

“If we are not getting any proper assurance from the administration we will continue our protest even tomorrow,” said a protestor.

Port Blair, Sept. 5: Teachers play a catalytic role in moulding students who are the future of tomorrow, said the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Shri Chetan B Sanghi addressing the valedictory function of the weeklong programme organized by the Education Department as part of the Teachers’ Day celebration held in the auditorium of Tagore Govt. College of Education here this evening. The programme was attended among others by senior officers of the Administration, faculties of Education Department, Principals and Teachers from various colleges and schools besides students.
Complimenting the teachers on the occasion, the Chief Secretary said, Teachers’ Day is dedicated to teachers for their relentless service in nation building. The day is celebrated with vigour and enthusiasm across India. Besides parents, a teacher feels equally elated in the progress of the child and such noble thought of the teachers in wanting to give their best for the holistic development of the child deserves appreciation, he said. A nation’s progress rests on teachers and good teachers are very important for imparting quality education and various steps are being taken to give due recognition to them. Academic variant is not the only option for the child to excel, rather there are umpteen number of fields in which a student can excel, the Chief Secretary said while referring to fields like sports and other extracurricular activities.
The Chief Secretary further stated that since the last one year, the Education Department here with the help of teachers have made laudable achievements. The Department has been able to produce very good results besides the implementation process adopted by the Department for recognizing teachers by including both senior and junior teachers of various Govt. Schools, deserves a special mention, he said. The Chief Secretary also desired that teachers teaching Physical Education and other extra circular activities should also be duly recognized for their efforts and urged the selection committee of the Education Department to include teachers from every stream in the award to be presented from next year. He also lauded the teachers serving in far flung areas for their dedication and support despite the challenges. The voluntary contribution of teachers in monitoring the mid day meals served to students was also hailed by the Chief Secretary.
The Chief Secretary further informed about ‘Rashtriya Poshan Maah’ a Govt. of India overreaching scheme for holistic nourishment of children. He said, Poshan Abhiyan aims at addressing malnutrition in children and to further improve the nutritional data of A&N Isles, the Education Department has decided to provide extra bananas and eggs to the students for improving their nutritional aspect. He also highlighted about the various initiatives taken by the Education Department such as training programmes for teachers which will yield quality teachers and quality pedagogy leading to better students and results, up-gradation of sports facilities, improving the physical infrastructures besides other requirements put forth by the Department will be taken up. He also complimented the teachers for their dedicated services and urged them to continue serving the students with vigour.
The Chief Secretary and other dignitaries presented awards to 12 teachers from the Islands for their outstanding contributions in the field of education. Earlier, the Chief Secretary also garlanded the portrait of Dr. S. Radhakrishnan on the occasion.
In his welcome address, the Secretary (Education), Shri D. Manikandan highlighted the significance of the day. He elaborated on the roles played by teachers for the overall development of the students and lauded their contributions towards nation building. The Secretary also lauded the teachers serving in far flung areas with dedication. He also appreciated the support of the teachers to the Department and their positive response for the welfare of the students. The Secretary said, this year there has not been a single POCSO case against the teaching community due to vigorous awareness and actions taken by the Education Department.
Cultural programmes were presented by the faculties and teachers of the Education Department on the occasion. The programme culminated with the vote of thanks proposed by the Director (Education), Shri Kamlesh Kumar.

Port Blair, July 5: All Ration Card holders of Fair Price Shop No. 387 allotted in the favour of CCS Ltd. situated at Kadamtala have been cancelled with effect from Aug 1, 2019 as per the request letter from the Secretary, CCS Ltd., Port Blair. The Ration Cards registered in FPS No. 387 shall be attached to FPS No. 215 belonging to Mrs. Sukla Mondal, Kadamtala. Hence, all Ration Card holders of FPS No. 387 have been requested to collect their ration articles from FPS No. 215 from the month of August, 2019 onwards, however, ration card holders are free to transfer their ration cards to any other FPS of their choice after collecting their ration for the month of August, 2019.
