Port Blair, Jan 30: The Science Unit of Directorate of Education is organising a State- Level Exhibition and project competition (SLEPC)-INSPIRE 2012 in collaboration with the Department of Science & Technology, New Delhi from January 31 to February 01, 2012 in the auditorium of Govt. Girls SSS, Port Blair in which all the selected participants from district level exhibition and project competition (DLEPC)-INSPIRE 2012 will display their models/exhibits. The exhibition will be inaugurated by Dr. R. Dev Das, Director of Education on31st January, 2012at10:30 AM.

The Commissioner & Secretary Education, Mr. B.S. Bhalla will be the chief guest at the valedictory function on1st February 2012at2:30 P.M.and give away the prizes.

The best five selected exhibits will be taking part in the National Level Exhibition and project competition (NLEPC) – INSPIRE 2012 atNew Delhi.

Port Blair, Jan 30: Tehsildar, Port Blair shall be camping at Havelock on 31/01/2012 to attend to Revenue matter. Those desirous of placing various Issues/subject matter may contact the Revenue Inspector of the area. It is also informed that such camps shall be held every month and the general public may avail the opportunity.

Port Blair, Jan 28: A solemn function will be organized by the Homfraygunj Martyrs’ Memorial Committee, Port Blair to pay homage to martyrs’ on their 68^th martyrdom anniversary at Balidan Vedi-State Martyr’s Memorial Homfraygunj onJanuary 30, 2011 at08:00 A.M. Port Blair, Jan 25: Together with the rest of the country, National Voters’ Day was celebrated in the Islands on January 25, 2012 . The Day was celebrated at the Community Hall Ferrargunj, by State Social Welfare Board in association with Shardamani Mahila Mandal, Ferrargunj at 2.00 p.m. which was coincided with the celebration of National Girl Child Day as part of the weeklong celebration in which the Tehsildar, Ferrargunj Mr. Gasper James was the Chief Guest. Smt. Pushpa Biswas President, Shardamani Mahila Mandal presented bouquets to the Chief Guest, Chairperson, A&N State Social Welfare Board, Port Blair, Pramukh Panchayat Samithy Ferrargunj , Child Development Project Officer Block Development Officer and other PRI Members.
The programme was inaugurated by the Chief Guest by lighting lamp. Earlier in her welcome address, the Chairperson, A&N State Social Welfare Board, Smt. Ratna Kannan dwelt at length on the significance of the day and said that the mother is the first Teacher for her children as she plays an important role in bringing up. She threw lights on the importance of Voters’ Day as well as National Girl Child Day .She explained that new voters who have attained the age of 18 years are showing less interest in getting enrolled in the electoral rolls. She said the level of their enrolment was as low as 20-25 percent in certain cases. While addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest explained in detail about the importance of Voters’ Day and advised the adolescent girls to give attention for their education to become a good citizen in the society. He further expressed that education is compulsory for the girl child to acquaint themselves to know their rights.

The speakers at the function emphasized the need for protection and development of girl children especially the adolescent girls. The Speakers also delivered speech on the importance of Voters Day.

Port Blair, Jan 12: Andaman and Nicobar Police has registered a case against unknown person in Jarawa Video Case and started investigation to find out who had actually shot the video. According to details the case has been registered in Bambooflat Police Station, South Andaman region, as Jarawa Territory of South Andaman comes under, its jurisdiction.

“Nothing is substantial till now but we are carrying out investigation and trying to find out who had shot this video and when,” S P Tyagi, the Superintendent of Police of South Andaman region told ‘Andaman Sheekha’ today.

Since the video tape, showing half-covered Jarawa girls dancing at Andaman Trunk Road, surfaced there has been tremendous pressure on Andaman and Nicobar Police to nab those who had made these girls dance for food.

“We had spoken to the officials of Andaman Adim Janjati Vikas Samity (AAJVS) who identified all Jarawa Girls, who are grown-up know. This clearly proves that the video was shot long long back,” a senior police officer told ‘Andaman Sheekha’ who doesn’t want his name to be quoted.

Andaman and Nicobar Police have also gathered information about a foreign National, who have been asking for the video clip from people and offering hefty amount.

Meanwhile, Political Parties in Andaman are smelling rat on the timing of releasing the video. “When a top delegation of Andaman Chamber of Commerce and Industry went to New Delhi to meet the Prime Minister of India and to request them not to close ATR, this very old video was released by someone. Is this a coincidence or a well plan strategy to defeat the purpose of the meeting?” questioned Mr. R Mohan the President of A & N Islands State BJP unit.
