Chit Fund Scam of Diglipur :::: North Andaman Boils as Chit Fund Companies continue to fool public
DJ Venkatesh
Diglipur, May 28: The Ramel Industries Ltd was once a flourished chit fund company in A & N Islands, having maximum customers from Diglipur area. The Company even today has about 50 agents in Andaman, who have enrolled about 200 customers.
The Headquarter of the firm is situated at 57B, Chittaranjan Avenue, Kolkata-12, which is having its branch office at Diglipur. But surprisingly, the name displayed at Diglipur office is “Ramel Infotech Ltd.”, for reasons unknown. The Office has already been closed at Diglipur and repayment for the customers is pending since a long time.
Meanwhile, the In Charge of the firm, who is also the development Officer for the A & N Islands Mr. Atanu Sarkar, S/o Gokulendu Bikash Sarkar under P S Habra reached Port Blair on 21st April 2014 for business related works and reached Diglipur on 26th April, 2014.
When he reached Diglipur, the agents lodged a complaint against him in Police Station following which the PS Diglipur inquired into the matter with the said Development Officer for non-payment of assured and original money.
Fuming investors and agents reportedly took away his PAN card and luggage etc. Considering the seriousness of the issue, PS Diglipur asked Mr. Atanu Sarkar to given attendance at PS Diglipur, twice a day and not to leave the Island.
Meanwhile, Mr. Atanu Sarkar started convincing people saying that he is having a shop at Kolkata and after selling the shop he will reimburse all the money.
Due to heavy pressure from investors, during his stay at Diglipur he paid some Part
payment of money to some of the customers of Ramel Industries. Some of them
are Swapan Biswas Rs. 20,000/-, Dipali Biswas Rs. 2,000/-, Jagannath Ghosh Rs.11,000/-, Rano Baroi Rs. 20,000/-,Swapan Rs. 2,000/-, Raja Rs. 2,000/-,Sunita Roy Rs. 2,400/-Tapan Dutta Rs. 80,000/-, this is as per the written record from Atanu Sarkar.
Meanwhile, the father of Mr. Atanu Sarkar lodged a fake complaint at Kolkata Police Station that his son has been kidnapped by some people at Diglipur, North Andaman.
The Kolkata Police arrived at Port Blair and the Police of PS Diglipur handed over him to the Kolkata Police at Port Blair. This is yet not clear that why Andaman and Nicobar Police let the Chit Fund Company agent go so easily, without lodging a proper FIR against him? Meanwhile, the North Andaman is boiling as hundreds of investors, who fell victims of such Chit Fund Companies are neither getting their assured amount nor original amount. Hope Andaman and Nicobar Police will take some kind of steps against such fake company soon.
LG reviews functioning of Power Department
Port Blair, May 20: The Lt Governor had in a recent meeting at Raj Niwas reviewed the functioning and the programmes of the Department of Power. The Lt Governor was briefed by Secretary (Power), through a power point presentation, on the achievements of the Electricity Department during 2013-14. Important programmes undertaken in current financial year were also discussed.
The Lt Governor expressed his concern over the high cost of power generation through diesel based sets and directed the Department to conduct a special drive– “Energy Conservation Week” for creating awareness about energy conservation measures in Government Departments and the General Public.
Lt Governor has further directed that all Government Departments to curtail their energy consumption by 10% in their offices and this shall be monitored periodically. General Public is also advised to curtail their consumption by using energy efficient devices and avoid wastage of energy. All public lighting systems should be converted to energy efficient LED lights or Solar Street lights from now onwards. It was also decided that the Department shall review the prevailing tariff of Commercial/Industrial sector in view of the highly subsidized levels of tariff i.e. @ Rs. 4.00 per unit vis-a-vis Rs. 24.00 per unit being the cost of supply.
The Department informed Lt Governor on the efforts being made for implementation of projects for generation of power by renewable sources like Wind Energy, Solar Energy (through rooftop/solar power packs), Tidal and Oceanic Thermal Energy Conversion Technology. In the conventional power sector, the Department is already in the process of finalization of agreement for installation of LNG based power Plant through M/s Petronet LNG Ltd. The Department has already started the work of installation of 5 MW DG sets at Phoenix Bay Power House.
The Lt Governor has once again emphasized the need for working on reduction in the cost of generation as well as minimizing the power consumption in all sectors.
