Lt. Governor calls on Prime Minister
Port Blair, June 15: Lt Gen A K Singh (Retd), the Lt Governor of Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Puducherry called on Shri Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister, at 7 Race Course Road on 15.06.2015 and apprised him on the major achievements and developments in the Islands that have occurred in the last one year.
He also briefed the Prime Minister on the setting up of the Medical College at Port Blair, and, on behalf of the people of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, he invited the Prime Minister to inaugurate the Medical College.
The Prime Minister was also briefed on all issues pertaining to Puducherry also.
LG meets Union Home Minister
Port Blair, June 15: The Lt Governor, Lt Gen A K Singh (Retd), met Shri Rajnath Singh, The Union Home Minister, GoI and discussed various issues of the Islands and Puducherry.
The Home Minister has expressed his desire to visit both the Union Territories soon.
Kuldeep Expresses gratitude to LG for making Medical College dream true
Port Blair, June 10: The PCC President Kuldeep Rai Sharma has recorded his own and Congress Party’s gratitude to the Lt General (Retd) AK Singh, Lt Governor AN Islands for making the much awaited dream project of the medical college for islands a reality, setting aside all created hindrances. This has brought smiles on the faces of islanders, especially to those who are financially weak as the specialized treatment will now be available at Port Blair beside boosting medical tourism.
As regards to student community aspiring for undertaking MBBS course, the enhanced number of seats will provide opportunity to much larger student community belonging to various section of the society. Deteriorating standard of school education, especially at remote islands as reflected through the results of class X and XII has become a major concern for the parents residing in such areas and the effort of the Lt Governor by issuing directive to education department to come up with a time bound plan of action for the improvement in standard in the Education sector of Govt schools in these islands is another noble decision taken by the Administrator which shows his concern for the future of the student community, Kuldeep has stated.
Chinmaya Jyoti Yatra from June 21
Port Blair, June 08: To propagate the message of universal brotherhood and social harmony, Chinmaya Mission, Port Blair will be organising Chinmaya Jyoti yatra on the occasion of birth centenary celebration of Param Poojya Swami Chinmayanandajee. The two-week yatra will start from Port Blair on June 21 and will return to Port Blair on 4th July covering all important places of South, Middle and North Andaman.
During the yatra, the members of the Mission will deliver special lectures to the school children on stress management, drug abuse, enhancing memory power etc. Special programmes will be organised in selected locations in the evening hours for general public.
At Rangat, Mayabunder and Diglipur, the yatra will carry out ‘Swatchta Abhiyan’ involving local people. A tableau carrying the message of Swami Chinmayanandajee and a jyoti will be taken out in yatra. A team of 15 devotees and Chinmaya Yuva Kendra members will accompany the yatra, a communication said.
Consecration of Shree Munisuvrat Swamy Jain Temple at Shree Radha Govind Temple premises
Port Blair, June 05: The consecration ceremony (Kumbhabhishekam) of the newly constructed Shree Munisuvrat Swamy Jain temple within Shree Radha Govind temple premises at R.G.T. road, Port Blair, will be performed as per Jain rituals at 10.30 am on Sunday 7th June 2015.
This temple is a fully engraved marble structure built in typical Jain style for the past two years by sculptors and artisans brought from Rajasthan.
The main deity of this temple is Shree Munisuvrat Swamy who is the 20th Thirthankar in Jainism.
The other deities to be installed are the Navagrahas with their lords, Ambal, Mahalakshmi, Padmavathi Devi and Chakkeshwari Devi with their respective Vahanams.
All the deities are sculptured out of pure marble. This is one of the unique temples of our islands constructed with the whole hearted support and personal supervision of Shri Singhvi brothers and family of Chennai & Bangalore.
The temple committee has requested all devotees to grace the auspicious occasion and obtain the blessings of Lord Shree Munisuvrat Swamy and the Navagrahas.
GEF for separate quota in chartered flights
Port Blair, May 18: The President, Government Employees Federation, Mr P Kannan, has demanded separate quota for senior citizens, handicapped persons, medical referral cases, government employees and emergency cases in the chartered flight in the island-mainland sector. In a letter to the Lt. Governor, Mr Kannan said that the benefits of the current system doesn’t reach all sections and needs to be modified.
Monsoon to hit Andaman by last week of May: IMD
Sarthak Kanjilal Port Blair, May 13: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) today said that the Monsoon is expected to hit Andaman and Nicobar Islands by last week of May. Talking to media persons at Port Blair the Director of IMD’s Andaman unit Dr. Sidhartha Singh said that it is expected that by the last week of May, before June 1, the Monsoon will reach Andaman. “As per the forecast we have received from our department this year rainfall will be 93 percent of long term average, which is 93 percent of the average rainfall our country has received in last 30 years. There could be 5 percent, plus or minus error,” he said. Dr. Singh added that although there could be a little less rainfall this year in entire India but in Andaman there won’t be much different because there is sea all around Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Mariyam Bibi to inaugurate Mini Stadium at Shoal Bay
Port Blair, May 13: The Adhyaksha, Zilla Parishad, South Andaman, Miss V.K. Mariyam Bibi will inaugurate the newly constructed Mini Stadium at Shoal Bay, No.12, South Andaman at 2.30 pm tomorrow (May 14).
The Secretary (Industries) & CEO, Zilla Parishad, SA, Smt. Rashmi Krishnan, Zilla Parishad Member, Mannarghat Constituency, Mr. Deva Kumar, Pramukh, Panchayat Samiti, Ferrargunj, Mr. Mohammed Safique and Pradhan, Gram Panchayat, Shoal Bay, Mr. A.R. Kumar will also be present during the inaugural ceremony, a communication said.
National Technology Day Observed by Science Centre
Port Blair, May 13: The Science Centre, located at Goodwill Estate, Corbyn’s Cove Road, Port Blair here observed the “National Technology Day” on 11th May 2015.
As part of the observance, over 150 students from various schools who are attending the Holiday Camp at Science Centre were taken on a study tour to Disaster Management Centre at Port Blair.
The students were briefed about the various precautionary measures to be under taken in the event of any disaster. The Students also had the opportunity of seeing all the sophisticated equipments available with the disaster control room.
