Neil, July 15: A 20-year-old youth committed suicide by hanging himself in a Mango Tree near his house at Bharatpur, Neil Island yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Ashish Roy, who sometimes used to work as a driver with a travel operator.
As per sources, love failure was the reason behind the youth taking such an extreme step. Sources added that police found a photo of a girl as well as his phone at the spot where the boy committed suicide.
Sources also said that the boy was under heavy influence of alcohol before he attempted the suicide.
High wind wave forecast
Port Blair, July 3: The INCOIS Observatory, Hyderabad has forecast high waves in the range of 3.0 – 3.6 meters between 17:30 hours on 02-07-2016 to 23:30 hours of 04-07-2016 along the west coast of Andaman Islands between Ten Degree Channel to Coco Channel. Current speeds vary between 78 – 95 cm/sec. In Nicobar, high waves in the range of 3.0 – 3.7 meters are expected between 17:30 hours on 02-07-2016 to 23:30 hours of 04-07-2016 along the west coast of Nicobar Islands between Ten Degree Channel to Great Channel. Current speeds vary between 90 – 114 cm/sec. Fishermen have been advised to be cautious while venturing into the sea The general public have been advised to take precautionary measures and contact the State Control Room, District Control Room and Emergency Operation Centres in case of any emergency.
3-day seminar on yoga, meditation held at Ananda Marga School
Port Blair, June 30: Three day seminar on yoga and meditation was held at Ananda Marga School, Junglighat recently. Delegates and members from different parts of these islands participated in the seminar during which classes on Cakras, Kundelini, Atma, Dharma and Dharmamat, importance of practicing yoga sadhan in life were conducted. The members of the local mission held discussions on development and expansion of Ananda Marga Mission in these islands. The mission decided to open 5 more schools, two orphanages and 10 meditation centres in different parts of these islands.
SA Police solves burglary cases
Port Blair, June 28: The South Andaman Police has arrested one accused in connection with a theft case. One accused R/o Nayagaon was intercepted after sustained investigation and during interrogation, he broke down and confessed to his involvement in various theft/burglary cases registered at PS Pahargaon & PS Aberdeen alongwith his friend. On 12-06-2016, a theft/burglary case was reported at PS Aberdeen regarding theft of cash Rs. 22,000/- & 08 Nos. Mobile Phones from a shop at Mohanpura in the night hours. Thereafter on 23rd & 24thJune, 2016 cash worth Rs. 77,000/- & 8000/- was also stolen away from two shops at Prothrapur. During investigation & after verifying the modus operandi, accused was arrested and the stolen items were seized from his possession. Vigorous efforts by police have resulted in working out of these crimes.

Commendable Pass Percentage in Class X CBSE Examination
Port Blair, May 29: The results of CBSE Secondary School Examination 2016 (Class-X) have been announced on 28st May, 2016.
As per the official website of CBSE, out of 5890 students who appeared in Class-X from 106 Schools of Govt./Govt. Aided and Un-Aided in A & N Islands, 5761 students have qualified and 129 students have been placed in EIOP (Eligible for Improvement of Performance). There is a huge jump in the overall pass percentage of A & N Islands from 84.29% last year to 97.81% this year. Similarly there is vast improvement in the overall pass percentage of Administration schools from 79.53% last year to 97.31% this year.
A total of 107 students have been awarded with 10.0 CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) as compared to 29 students last year.
79 Schools have 100% results of which 63 school are Administration School.
The overall Pass percentage of A&N Islands is more than All India CBSE Pass percentage which is 96.21%.
The Principal Secretary (Education) & Secretary (Education), A&N Administration have congratulated the students and their parents, Heads of Institutions and Teachers for the meritorious achievements. The whole credit goes to the students & Teachers.
Yoga, Naturopathy and Homoeopathy Free Camp held
Port Blair, May 23: Sri Annai Aravind Health Care and Social Welfare Trust (SAAHSWT) conducted free camp of Yoga, Homoeopathy & Naturopathy on 22.06.2016 at Community Hall, Bathubasti from 09:00 AM to 01:00 PM on the occasion of 2nd International Day of Yoga 2016 sponsored by Central Council for Research in Yoga & Naturopathy (CCRYN), Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India, New Delhi.
Dr. Sumithra Mandal and Dr. Ronita Biswas Homeopathy Physicians had diagnosed the patients and prescribed Homoeo Medicine and also highlighted the importance about Homoeopathy treatment.

Permits for collection of sea sand
Port Blair, April 19: The Sea Sand allotment committee of Andaman & Nicobar Administration has allotted a quantity of 2000 Cum. Sea Sand from Diglipur Forest Division for the use of general public of Mayabunder Division jurisdiction vide CCF (CZ & FC) and Member Secretary SAC’s Endorsement No. CF/FCA/3-1/VOL-XIII/271 dated 20.11.2015.
The general public of the division who had submitted their applications in the year 2015-16 for balance quantity of 975 Cbm sea sand for their domestic use have been informed that the permit for collection of sea sand will be issued to 195 out of 232 applicants as recommended by the committee constituted for the scrutiny of the application received. The list of 195 applicants has been displayed in the Notice Board of Divisional Forest Office, Mayabunder, Range Offices at Tugapur, Mayabunder and Karmatang. Permit for the applicants of Mayabunder area will be issued from the Divisional Forest Office, Diglipur.
Municipal Council invites write-ups on Smart City objectives
Port Blair, Oct 28: The Municipal Council is in the process of consulting the urban citizens of Port Blair to seek inputs for preparing the Smart City proposal under Smart city Mission for Port Blair City. As part of the initiative, the Port Blair Municipal Council has invited opinions/aspirations of the urban citizen of Port Blair in the form of essay.
Interested people can write an essay on the topic “Mere Sapno ka Shahar” focusing on the issues faced by the citizens and the likely solution to address the issues.
