Port Blair, Nov 29: Responding to issue raised by Andaman Sheekha regarding dozen of potholes on the ATR stretch from Garacharma to Lal Pahad area, the Deputy Commissioner of South Andaman, Mr. Suneel Anchipaka has assured that the potholes will be filled soon. Talking to this press, the Deputy Commissioner said that he has also noticed the potholes, on the said road stretch and during a meeting this regard yesterday, this issue has been raised with officials of NHIDCL.
“Repair of potholes is in the clause of contractors and it will be done. I spoke to them one hour back,” said the Deputy Commissioner of South Andaman.
Residents of Baratang in Agitated Mood due to pathetic ATR conditions; Deputy Commissioner assures early action

Port Blair, Nov 19: Although reports of fast track Andaman Trunk Road, upgradation works are coming from most of the areas, but in Baratang region pathetic condition of ATR is giving nightmares to ATR commuters and local residents.
As per reports local residents of Baratang are fuming over bad roads and are in agitated mood.
Recently two people met with accidents at Baratang due to bad road and suffered serious injuries. One person broke his hand, after falling from bike.
According to the former Up-adhyaksh of North and Middle Andaman, Mr. R Alager Swamy the people of Baratang are demanding to conduct a major agitation on 26 November 2020 if the Andaman Trunk Road upgradation work does not start at Baratang Stretch soon.
In this regard Mr. R Alager Swami, who is also the Zilla Parishad Member of the region and Mr. Roy George, former Pradhan of Nilambur met the Deputy Commissioner of North and Middle Andaman, Dr. Angel Bhati Chauhan at Baratang Guest House on 16 November 2020 and highlighted this issues.
“The Deputy Commissioner heard the problem very patiently and has assured us that necessary action will be taken from her end as soon as possible. We are hopeful that the Deputy Commissioner will issue necessary direction to the NHIDCL in this regard,” Mr. Alager Swami said.
Gambling den busted in Bambooflat; 5 held

Port Blair, November 18: The Bambooflat Police Unit on Monday arrested five people for gambling in the Bambooflat area. As per reports, Rs 57000 was seized from the spot during the raid. The entire raid was conducted under the overall supervision of Station House Officer, Sub Inspector SI K. Illangovan under the overall leadership of the SDPO Bambooflat and SP South Andaman District.
People have highly appreciated the efforts of the PS Bambooflat for maintaining proper law and order in the area. Since last one month several bootleggers have been arrested by Sub Inspector SI K. Illangovan and his team.
DC N and M Andaman withdraw the decision of closing the Billyground market
Billyground, November 17: The District Commissioner, North and Middle Andaman, Dr. Angel Bhati Chauhan, has withdrawn the verbal order that she gave yesterday for closing the Billyground Market for two long days.
According to reports, after sighting a few individuals roaming without wearing the mask and not maintaining social distancing, Dr. Chauhan ordered the closure of the market.
Fortunately, considering the losses the business community, law-abiding people will face, the DC withdrew the order.
Although, she conducted a meeting at the PS Billyground today at 10:30 am, wherein all shopkeepers of the region assembled.
During the meeting, Mr. R.K Sharma, DANIP, SDPO, Rangat Subdivision, informed the gathering about the COVID protocols and requested all to follow the same as they followed in the past.
Mr. Vichitraveer, Superintendent of Police, North and Middle Andaman, was also present during the meeting.
IMFL seized from Jirkatang Gate

Port Blair, Nov 16: 25 bottles of IMFL has been seized by SI P.K.Jabbar and team at Jirkatang Gate on 14/0/11/20 from a private car of Mr. Inderjit Baroi residents of Rangat and appropriate action has been taken against him as per law.
4.3 magnitude earthquake jolt Andaman Islands
Port Blair, Nov 13: An earthquake measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale struck the Andaman Islands on Friday, as per the National Center for Seismology. The quake occurred at 0845 hours today.
“Earthquake of magnitude 4.3 on the Richter scale struck the Andaman Islands at 0845 hours today,” said National Center for Seismology. There were no reports of any casualties, injuries or damage to property, reported ANI.
G Bhasker urges Lt Governor to allot land for Christian Graveyard

Port Blair, November 12: The former General Secretary, ANTCC, Mr. G Bhasker has urged the Lt Governor, Andaman, and the Nicobar Islands to allot a piece of land for Christian Graveyard. In a letter addressed to the Lt Governor, Mr. Bhasker stated that the Christian community in the Islands comprise almost 20% of the population and are appealing for another burial ground in and around the Port Blair area for a long time to ease the pressure on the present Graveyard.
“Present Graveyard, opposite to Netaji Stadium, is used even from the British period and does not have enough space for burial anymore, sometimes the bodies are buried one over the other,” said Mr. Bhasker.
He added that due to the stray dogs, decayed body parts could be seen most of the time lying on the ground during funeral services.
He further stated to the Lt Governor that many places have been identified for Graveyard sites that are the area behind Police Line/ ALWH Quarters, Corbyn’s Cove, and Mazar Pahad hilly land, Attam Pahad.
Therefore he requested the Lt Governor to constitute a committee under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman, and allot the suitable a land for the Christian Graveyard within a limited time frame.
More Flights between Port Blair and Mainland

Port Blair, Nov 10: The number of flights operating between the Port Blair and Mainland India has been increased. Now on Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday there will be five flights while on Monday, Thursday and Friday there will be six flights. While on Sunday there will be seven flights till March 27, 2021. Four direct flights a week have also been made available for Bengaluru. This new schedule issued on 09.11.2020 will remain effective till March 27, 2021.

The peaceful agitation was held infront of Patwari office of Sweraj Dweep.
BSNL mobile users of Mayabunder region get 4G connectivity, Rangat Next

Mayabunder, Nov 08: In a positive development, the BSNL mobile users of Mayabunder region started getting 4G connectivity from today. According to report after Diglipur, Mayabunder region is the second region to get 4G connectivity, through 3G spectrum. According to insiders in BSNL, Rangat region will also get similar 4G connectivity in a couple of days.
Necessary hardware change at Mayabunder and software update at Port Blair for Mayabunder exchange was carried out yesterday.
Sources in BSNL told Andaman Sheekha as the BSNL does not have 4G spectrums, it is providing 4G service through 3G spectrum in Andaman, which is giving 1 MBPS to 3 MBPS speed as per the location and connectivity.
According to BSNL sources, nearly 63 towers in entire Andaman and Nicobar Islands will provide such 4G signals.
