Port Blair, Jan 11: Search for Mr. Ramesh Mandal, a resident of Baratang Island, who went missing yesterday while trying to collected LPG cylinders from North Bay Shores, yielded no results today. Till the last report received here, people involved in search of Mr. Ramesh Mandal , could not find any success today and hence the search will continue tomorrow.
After a dinghy accident on 9th Jan 2021, nearly 500 LPG cylinders got drifted in sea near North Bay, Mr. Ramesh Mandal and other had gone for collecting the LPG Cylinders it is learnt.

Port Blair, Jan 10: A cargo dinghy reportedly carrying nearly 500 LPG Cylinders of CCS for Swaraj Dweep Island, capsized yesterday after crossing North Bay area.
According to reports, due to rough whether the injector pipe of one out of two engines, of the dinghy busted at around 11.0 AM and when the two boatmen were trying to fix the injector pipe, the dinghy reportedly tilted towards one side. According to details due to the tilt and high swell in the sea, the dinghy collapsed.
Two boatmen present on the boat, Mr. Samir, from Swaraj Dweep and Mr. Ramesh Mandal, from Baratang Island, were anyhow rescued by nearby fishermen and brought back safely to Port Blair.
It is learnt that today, to collect all the missing LPG cylinders, which drifted towards the coast of North Bay, two dinghies were sent from Port Blair.
Mr. Samir and Mr. Ramesh Mandal were also in these two dinghies to identify the exact location.
Later seven people reportedly jumped into sea to collect the LPG Cylinders. But after collecting nearly 22 cylinders, people on the dinghies found that Mr. Ramesh Mandal, who was survivor of yesterday’s, dinghy capsize accident, is missing.
After the search for Mr. Ramesh Mandal, yielded no results, the boatmen reportedly went to nearby Police Station and lodged a missing report.
Ranchi Association demands arrest of culprits of Calicut Murder Case and Job for Victim’s Husband

Port Blair, Jan 08: The Ranchi Association, of Andaman and Nicobar Islands has demanded early arrest of the culprits involved in recent, Calicut Murder case.
In a letter addressed to the Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands and copy of which was sent to the DGP, A & N Islands, Mr. Fabiyanus Toppo has expressed full faith on Andaman and Nicobar Police.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha this evening, Mr. Toppo said that he is confident that the Andaman and Nicobar Police will crack the case soon.
“I request Administration to provide some kind of employment to the husband of the victim as the victim has left behind two children,” Mr. Fabiyanus Toppo said.
Meanwhile, it is learnt that Andaman and Nicobar Police has formed several teams to solve this murder mystery and it is expected that the police will crack this case soon.
Calicut Murder Case: Police reportedly Picks up few for interrogation; Post Mortem Report awaited

Port Blair, Jan 07: While the Andaman and Nicobar police has started investigation of suspected murder case of a lady of Calicut region, after her body was found yesterday morning near her house, the delay in getting Post Mortem report has left many questions unanswered.
Questions like cause of death, time of murder etc will be confirmed only after getting a post mortem report, it is believed.
Meanwhile, according to villagers, police suspects that the victim might have been murdered by strangulation with the help of rope or similar object.
It is also learnt from unconfirmed sources that a few people have been picked up by the police team for interrogation, which is a standard procedure in such cases. Till now no officials details have been provided by Andaman and Nicobar Police in this regard.
Withdrawal of Rapid Antigen Test under consideration but will be done in due course only: DC South Andaman

Port Blair, Jan 06: The Deputy Commissioner of South Andaman, Mr. Suneel Anchipaka today said that considering reduction in number of COVID-19 cases ,the matter of withdrawal of Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) for Islanders, moving from one Island to another, is under consideration. However, he did not mention any date for this.
“We will take necessary decision in due course only. Because now also one or two cases are coming, so we will take such decision in future course only,” the Deputy Commissioner said.
The Andaman and Nicobar Administration has set up a very high standard in containing the spread of COVID-19 virus and till now the Administration seems to be in a very good position, as far as COVID-19 cases are concerned.
The Administration, however is taking no chances and any decision on withdrawal of RAT, will be taken after detailed discussions with all concerned agencies, it is believed.
Potholes on newly constructed ATR stretch, from Garacharma to Lalpahar pose serious risk

Port Blair, Jan 05: Large potholes, developed on the newly constructed ATR stretch from Garacharma to Lalpahar area has become a serious risk for ATR commuters. In some areas the top layer of the road has gone missing, raising questions over the quality of work carried out by the contractor.
As per details due to some reasons, on the said stretch of road instead of constructing new road, the NHIDCL had overlaid one layer over the existing road but public argues that even though, in that case, the contractor must repair the road for one year as per terms and condition of NHIDCL. Public asks why the road is not being repaired and large potholes are not filled, which can cause serious accidents at any point of time. Despite repeated attempts, NHIDCL officials were unavailable over phone to comment on this issue.
Man allegedly rapes friend’s wife, after consuming alcohol together; Arrested by Police

Port Blair, Jan 04: Andaman and Nicobar Police arrested a resident of Shoal Bay today for allegedly raping wife of his friend yesterday.
As per sources, the accused, Mr. Bansal Halder, 46 year, went to his friend’s house in another village yesterday to consume alcohol and after consuming alcohol he allegedly raped his friend’s wife.
A complaint in this regard was later registered at PS Ograbraj and taking swift action the investigating team under the leadership of SHO PS Ograbraj and other senior officers, arrested the accused. The accused was later produced to court today, from where he was sent to Judicial Custody. Further details are awaited. The swift action of Andaman and Nicobar Police in this case is appreciated.
Driver arrested for making inappropriate video of a female Doctor

Port Blair, Jan 03: A private driver of a hired vehicle of ANIIMS was arrested by PS Chatham for making video of a female Doctor by placing mobile phone near the window of the Doctor’s bathroom.
As per report the Doctor, a resident of Delanipur area, noticed the camera on the glass panels of her bathroom window and reported the matter to the police but till that time the accused had reportedly escaped. This was a blind case as there was neither any CCTV camera nor eyewitness.
Nevertheless the case was detected very professionally by lady investigation officer under the guidance of SHO PS Chatham and finally a private driver of vehicle hired by ANIIMS was arrested. The accused was later produced to court from where he was sent to judicial custody. Further details are awaited.
PS CCS Links Chain and First Time Arrests 02 Drug Peddlers From Kolkata
Port Blair, Dec 31: In order to curb drug abuse and the issues arising out of this menace in these islands, a chain of evidence was prepared in a professional manners and a team comprising SI Bisawjeet Prasad, Head Constable Upender Singh, Constable Hari Krishna Yadav and Samresh Mistry was deputed to mainland to arrest the drug peddlers from Kolkata, West Bengal who were assisting the drug peddlers of these Islands in supply of drugs.
On continuous follow up and technical analysis of the available evidence, the above mentioned team arrested one accused Chottu Sarkar on 23/12/2020 from Kolkata, West Bengal who used to supply ganja in these Island. He was brought to Port Blair on transit remand and produced before the Hon’ble Court at Port Blair and remanded to judicial custody.
Earlier, also on 09/12/2020 another accused namely Santanu Jana supplier of ganja to these Islands was also arrested from Kolkata, West Bengal and is in judicial custody at Port Blair. This is the first time when such drug peddlers are being arrested from mainland and brought to Port Blair. The arrest of these 02 drug peddlers could be possible only due to the well co-ordinated supervision of DySP CID and overall supervision of SP(CID) & SP(S/A).

NHIDCL assures to repair pothole ridden road between Jirkatang to Middle Strait soon

Port Blair, Dec 30: Andaman Sheekha, daily had earlier highlighted that condition of a particular stretch of Andaman Trunk Road, between Jirkatang and Middle Strait and pointed out that it has developed hundreds of potholes in last 2 years and no repair works have been carried out by NHIDCL contractor yet.
Commenting on the questions raised by Andaman Sheekha, a senior officer of NHIDCL has assured that the said road will be fully repaired by this month end or by next month.
“We haven’t issued completion certificate of the road to the concerned contractors yet. In this case because of restrictions of Jarawa area, we were allowed to only overlay one layer over the existing road and reconstruction was not allowed. Once we issue completion certificate after that, for one year it will be the responsibility of the contractor to maintain the road,” he said.
