Port Blair, June 21: Fighting for the rights of disabled persons and those from the backward class in these islands, the Non-Government Association, Sanjog has decided to file a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) against the Municipal Council for not considering the disabled person and youth from Other Backward Classes for allotment of Kiosks at the Food Court near Marina Park.
Speaking to Andaman Sheekha recently, the Civic Chief, Mrs Sheela Singh said that the Kiosks at the Food Court have been allotted to the vendors who were running their stalls at the same place for the past more than a year. The NGO, Sanjog has, however, have strongly objected to the decision of the Municipal Council.
Speaking to Andaman Sheekha, the President, Sanjog, Mr Akshay said, “My NGO has sent repeated letters to the Council to consider allotment of atleast some shops to the needy sections of the society particularly the disabled and youth from the OBCs. The Civic body should consider allotting at least 50 percent of the Kiosks at the Food Park for the disabled and others from the backward classes. The Civic Body has failed to appreciate our genuine demands and we’re left with no other option but to file a PIL against the Municipal Council.”
“It’s not a fight between an NGO and government agency. We’re fighting for the justice of disabled persons and others from the needy sections of the society. The Council unilateral decision to ignore the interest of the disabled and OBCs of these islands is clearly against the policies of the Modi government,” Pant said.
Meanwhile, Mrs Sheela while talking to Andaman Sheekha had promised that within six months the PBMC will try its level best and construct one or two more kiosks at the place and atleast one kiosk during then will be reserved for disabled persons.
