Baratang, July 28: Half Decomposed body of a 57 year old man namely Mr Miyanus Kirketta was found in the woods at Baratang this afternoon.
As per reports, the man used to visit the jungle regularly but was missing since 23rd July after he went to the jungle.
The family members of Mr Miryanus Kirketta then reported the matter at the Baratang Police Station on 24th July.
As per reports, the Police team tried very hard to find out Mr Miryanus Kirketta but failed.
It is learnt that this afternoon a villager seen a half decomposed dead body and reported the matter immediately to the Police. After which the police identified the body of missing Mr Miryanus Kirketta. The prima facie investigation says that it was a suicide. Further details are awaited.
Crocodile enters a private pond at Phooltala

Kadamtala, July 27: A 1.5 meter crocodile entered into a pond situated just in front a house at Phooltala yesterday, leaving residents deeply shocked, as the sea is very far from the area.
It is learnt that a person saw a Crocodile entering into the pond after which he immediately informed the house owner as well as the authorities in the Forest Department.
On information a team of forest Department reached the area this morning and put all its effort to catch the Crocodile but failed to catch it. Later two staffs were sent from Port Blair to Phooltala to catch the Crocodile.
As per sources, later in the evening after pumping out the water from the pump with the help of Fire Brigade the 1.5 meter long Crocodile was rescued and later was released in the wildlife sanctuary.
Tribal Council to organize peace march in support of tribal students expelled from ANIIMS

Car Nicobar, July 26: In a meeting held by the Tribal Council, Car Nicobar on 25th July, 2016 including all village headmen and lady representatives, it has been decided to organise peace march from Gandhi Chowk to Malacca to Deputy Commissioner’s office on 28th July,2016 at 4 pm to express solidarity and support to the tribal students expelled from ANIIMS under the direction of the Medical Council of India.
The council will also be submitting a memorandum to the DC, Car Nicobar, it is learnt.
“This is the first time, this kind of peace march will be organised in the Car Nicobar District as we don’t have any other way and for the sake the future of our children, we are taking this step,” Rashid Yousuf, Spokesperson Tribal Council said
Unemployed candidates allege manipulation in Mazdoor selection process

Port Blair, July 25: Fuming over the results of the selection process for the post of Mazdoors by the Forest Department, large number of unemployed youths have alleged large scale manipulation in the selection process.
The candidates gone through various tests for the selection of the Mazdoors in the Forest department told Andaman Sheekha that many candidates who have been selected by the department performed horribly bad in physical and trade tests.
“We want to know on what basis the selection of the candidates have been done,” said some unemployed candidates.
Nearly 50-60 candidates also approached lawyers for taking a stay order against this selection process.
It is also learnt that the gathering also met the Chief Secretary and gave a representation to him.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha some candidates said that they will continue to lodge protest against this selection process.
Bike hits scooter; one seriously injured

Port Blair, July 24: A speeding bike hit a scooter very hard near Light House at around 01:00 pm yesterday. Rider of the scooter suffered serious injuries in the accident.
As per reports, rider of the bike a youth of around 21 years old was driving the bike at a very high speed because of which he lost control over the bike and hit the scooter hard, which was taking a right.
As per sources, the rider of the bike was not a license holder and was also riding the bike without helmet.
On information a team of Aberdeen Police Station reached the spot and rushed the bike rider as well as the scooter rider to G B Pant hospital.
It is learnt that the situation of the scooter rider is out of danger and the Aberdeen Police Station has registered a case against the bike rider.
LG visits extended municipal wards: Issues directions to concerned departments to expedite works relating to basic civic amenities
Port Blair, July 22: The Lt Governor, Lt Gen AK Singh (Retd), today visited Birdline (Ward number 23) and Garacharama (Ward number 18) of the newly created municipal wards. The Chairperson PBMC, Smt. Sheela Singh, Secretary PBMC/ Deputy Commissioner (South Andaman), Shri Udit Prakash Rai, Ward Councillors of the respective wards and senior officers of different departments accompanied the Lt Governor during his visit to the two municipal wards. While interacting with the villagers, who were elated to see the Lt Governor amidst them listening their issues and grievances, the Lt Governor stated that it is the responsibility of the Administration and the Municipal Council to take care of the basic requirement of the residents of the newly created six wards and every effort will be made to see that basic amenities reach the residents of these new wards. The Lt Governor said that development activities will gradually improve in all the six newly created wards. A large gathering of villagers were present to meet the Lt Governor with their demands.
The Lt Governor first visited BirdLine ward number 23. Responding to the demands of the ward councillor, Shri Sanjay Meshak and the residents about construction of road, the Lt Governor directed the Chief Engineer (APWD) to take six major roads one each in the six new wards. Directions were given that road construction should be taken in this season itself for its speedy completion. Responding to the demand of the residents for LT line and electric poles for better power supply in that area, the Lt Governor directed the Superintendent Engineer of Electricity Department to look into the matter and complete the erection of LT line and electric poles in this financial year itself to address the demands of the residents.
When the attention of the Lt Governor was brought on the issue of air pollution by the residents near Prothrapur Jail due to crusher operations, the Lt Governor asked the Deputy Commissioner to look into the possibilities to re-locate the same to a low populated area. The Lt Governor also visited ‘Anganwadi Centre’ at Barood Godown where 20 children are enrolled. The Lt Governor wanted that this anganwadi should be developed as a Model Anganwadi Centre of Birdline area. He also asked APWD and Electricity departments to take general maintenance of the building and immediately restore the power supply.
The Lt Governor further directed the APWD to prepare a report about the Hathinallah water source. Directions were given that this water source to be integrated so that it will be an addition to the APWD’S water network. He further urged the resident of the ward to come forward and take cleanliness drive through ‘shramdan’ with the Councillor of the ward taking a lead role.
Expressing his displeasure over the poor quality drinking water being supplied to the residents of Hanuman Temple road Birdline, he said such things cannot be tolerated/accepted at any cost. He directed the APWD officials to set it right within seven days time. Regarding poor conditions of the road, the Secretary PBMC informed the Lt Governor that a new road has been sanctioned and estimate for the same has been approved, the work for which will start within two months time.
Thereafter, the Lt Governor visited Mahavir Nagar Prothrapur where residents demanded for construction of road. He assured them that their demand will be covered on priority through the PBMC. Taking on the spot decision on the demand for the plying of bus service in that area, the Lt Governor directed the Secretary Transport to start bus service within two days time.
Later, the Lt Governor visited Garacharama ward number 18. The Councillor of the ward, Ms Rubana Aziz and the villagers demanded widening of road from Garacharama Junction to water treatment Plant. The Lt Governor directed the APWD to take up the widening of road immediately. Responding to the demand for the bus service in that area, the Lt Governor directed the Secretary Transport to start bus service immediately. On the issue of shortage of sanitation staff in the new wards, he directed Secretary (PBMC) to take five sanitation workers from each of the older wards and distribute in the new wards. He also informed the Chairperson, PBMC that the administration will give priority to projects of the new wards.

The accused Ram Krishna Poddar aged about 38 years S/o Kalidas Poddar R/o Madhupur-2 was arrested from the spot and his bike bearing No.AN01 G2032 was also seized.
Eleventh meeting of Inter-State Council at New Delhi: LG highlights issues pertaining to the A&N Islands
Port Blair, July 20: The eleventh meeting of the Inter-State Council under the Chairmanship of Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi was held at New Delhi on 16th July 2016 with four specific agendas. While participating in the meeting, the Hon’ble Lt Governor, Lt Gen A K Singh (Retd) complimented the Hon’ble Prime Minister on behalf of the people of the Islands for implementing the Aadhaar scheme as identification for providing subsidies, benefits and public service.
He stated that this is a landmark project of the central Govt. which is revolutionizing the way benefits are delivered to the right persons. He shared that around 97% of people have been covered under Aadhaar, and that cash based benefits under various CSS and UT Schemes are paid to beneficiaries directly to their bank accounts under Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) in A & N Islands.
He stated that the target is to achieve 100 per cent Aadhaar seeding for CSS by 31st July, 2016 and that three Permanent Enrolment Centers (one in each District) have been set up for 100 per cent Aadhar enrolment and continuous up-dation.
On the education front, he stated that the quality of education in the A&N Islands is improving with focus on improving learning outcomes and incentivizing better performance. Through concerted efforts on remedial teaching and continuous monitoring and evaluation, the A & N Islands witnessed a substantial improvement in overall performance in AISSCE 2016, he said, adding that there has been vast improvement in overall pass percentage in administration’s schools from 79.53% last year to 97.31% this year. The overall pass percentage of A & N Islands is more than All India CBSE pass percentage which is 96.21%. Informing about the other innovative measures to improve quality education, he said BHARTI (Better His / Her Achievement Rating & Teaching Indicator)-a unique learning assessment system has been introduced.
A programme for promoting life skills amongst students has also been initiated. For particularly vulnerable tribal groups, special measures have been adopted, he said. Referring to the achievements made by the A&N Administration in higher education front, he stated that a number of new institutions have been opened/planned to provide basic self sufficiency in higher learning such as Medical College, ANCOL, Community College, Law and Profession College. He sought the blessings of the Hon’ble Prime Minister and Minister MHRD for a Central University for the Islands, for which the Administration plans to move a case soon.
On internal security, the Lt Governor apprised the meeting about the challenges faced by the A&N Islands on the security front. He informed that internal security is being strengthened by focusing on intelligence sharing, coordination and Police reforms and modernization. This has been made more vibrant and responsive, as a result of which poaching is remarkably reduced. As part of these measures, high level coordination between Police, Coast Guard and Andaman and Nicobar Command is maintained. He further informed that disaster preparedness is a major focus area and contingency plans for all likely contingencies have been prepared and also appreciated by the NDMA.
The Lt Governor further stated that whilst focusing on the present, we have not lost sight of the future. The Andaman and Nicobar Administration had constituted a Study Group and prepared a Development Plan-2030, which has been submitted to the Govt. Action plan is being worked out. Incidentally, NITI Aayog has asked all to prepare their 15 year long term plans and the Andamans are the first to have accomplished this task.
He further stated that keeping with Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision, the A&N Islands is working with NITI Aayog for developing additional Islands and establishing a transshipment terminal/Free Port. He concluded by stating that till recently the A&N Islands used to be referred as a fortress in the Bay of Bengal, but today, with the fast pace of development in all spheres in the last two years, the A&N Islands is ready to be the Maritime Springboard for India’s Look East-Act East Policy.
In his remarks, the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi emphasized on the importance of collaborative working with the goal of good governance and development. He urged the states/UTs to make use of technology to improve efficiency of delivery. Emphasizing the need to strengthen internal security across the country, Shri Modi said states need to coordinate with each other in this direction. He said sharing of intelligence inputs is a must to strengthen internal security. The PM also stressed on community policing and CCTV coverage on a larger scale. He urged on the need to improve learning outcomes in the primary schools and outlined many innovative ideas like pairing of private and Govt schools and contribution in teaching by Govt officers, as also adopting the PURA model as outlined by late President Abdul Kalam.
Unknown people sets excavator on Fire; Forest Department lodges FIR

Mayabunder, July 19: The Forest Department, Mayabunder has registered a complaint against some unknown persons, who have allegedly set an excavator of Forest Department on Fire at German Jetty, Mayabunder.
Forest Department, Mayabunder had recently developed the German Jetty for tourist but it is learnt that many residents of Maybunder are unhappy with the development of the historic German Jetty.
However, it is learnt that the Mayabunder Police Station has registered a complaint against the unknown person for damaging government property based on the complaint lodged by Forest Department.
Sources also said that the police is presently taking more details from three fishermen who first reported the matter to police.
The fire on excavator was however controlled by Fire Services.
737 students remain absent from Schools: Tribal Students boycott school at Nicobar District over Expulsion of Tribal Students from ANIIMS
Port Blair, July 18: As many as 737 tribal students reportedly didn’t attend classes in any schools of Administration of Nicobar District today, following direction of Tribal Councils of Car Nicobar and Nancowrie Islands.
According to reports this action came as a mark of protest by both the tribal councils for Expulsion of Tribal Students from ANIIMS, recently.
According to Tribal Councils as many as nine students were removed from ANIIMS recently following the guidelines of Medical Council of India. The tribal councils had written many letters to the Administration for readmission of these Tribal Students but as nothing was done so far in this regard the Tribal Council today took this step.
Following this an emergency meeting was called at the Emergency Operation Centre of Car Nicobar by the Assistant Commissioner, which was attended by Tribal Council officials, BDO, Education Officer and others.
However, some non tribal student attended school today. As per details after today’s meeting at Car Nicobar it has been communicated to the AC that all tribal students of Car Nicobar and Nancowrie will attend school tomorrow.
“We have been assured that within a week something will be done in t his regard by Administration and therefore till Monday all Tribal Students will attend schools but if nothing is done in next seven days, our students will again boycott schools,” said Rashid Yousuf, Spokesperson Tribal Council.
