Port Blair, October 11: On Getting credible information of illegal distillation of country liquor, a team of Tushnabad Range comprising Mr. EM Mohammed Haneefa,Forest Guard, Mr. Mohammed Shabir Forester and Mazdoors namely, Mr Manick Halder, Mr.Mohammed Younus, Mr S. Ramesh and Mr Eliza, while patrolling seized one country liquor furnace and 370 liter of Lehan from the woods of Sona Pahad. As per the information, the team destroyed the Lehan and seized articles which were used for making country liquor.
Car Nicobar’s lone functional ATM goes out of order once again

Car Nicobar, Oct 09: Car Nicobar Island, the headquarter of Nicobar District has three ATMs but out of which only one ATM of State Bank of India (SBI) was functional since nearly one month.
While out of two ATMs of SBI, one ATM was repaired recently after Andaman Sheekha report the ATM of Cooperative Bank is non-functional since last nearly one year.
Sadly nearly one week back the lone operational ATM of SBI has also become non-operational, leaving general public of the Islands, especially government servant in deep trouble.
Due to restriction in movement of ships, many people are stranded in Car Nicobar and shortage of cash is a serious problem for them.
In Car Nicobar at present one has to stand in long queue inside SBI bank with cheque to withdraw cash, which is a risky affair during the time of pendemic. People of the Island are now demanding immediate repair of both the ATMs of SBI and one ATM of Cooperative bank so that they can also reap the benefit of Prime Minister Digital Indian Mission.
MV Lawrence grounded on her way to Chatham from Marine Jetty

Port Blair, Oct 8: A ferry vessel M.V. Lawerence grounded today soon after leaving Marine Jetty because of bad weather conditions.
According to the information received this incident took place when the ferry was on her way to Chatham Jetty to carry passengers from Chatham to Bambooflat ,late afternoon today.
The issue was immediately reported to the Directorate of Shipping Services and in no time assistance was provided.
As per details the ferry was later toed by tug boat MV. Angad. There was no report of any damage of injuries.
NHRC registers complaint in the matter of scuffle between COVID warriors and Director Transport

Port Blair, Oct 07: A local NGO SAHYOG has filed a complaint with Human Rights Commission, New Delhi in the issue of scuffle between 13 COVID warriors and Director Transport, which was reported on 3rd October 2020 from Bhatubasti Parking area.
Now according to the NGO, the Human Rights Commission had accepted & registered the case and about to inquire the matter soon.
As per detail the NHRC has registered the case, vide case number 12/26/4/2020.
When Andaman Sheekha crossed checked the case-number in the official website of NHRC, it showed the record and details of the case, which proves that the case has been registered officially now.
There are many including members of SAHYOG NGO, who are claiming that the first attack was made by the Director of Transport, Dr. Navlendra Singh.
Dr. Singh has however has already refuted these allegations saying he was attacked by the Health Workers, present in the bus. Interestingly a case has already been registered against the 13 COVID-19 warriors at PS Pahargaon.
Now it will be interesting to watch how the NHRC will investigate this matter and whether the NHRC is able to find out the complete truth.
Non-release of long-pending payment forces Subcontractor of NH4 Contractor to sit on a strike with his labourers

Port Blair, Oct 05: A Sub-Contractor of Garg and Sons ( one of the Contractors of the National Highway 04 upgradation project) sat on strike in front of the Garg and Sons plant, Sivapuram today with his labourers, demanding the immediate release of his long-pending payment.
According to reports, the Sub-Contractor hasn’t received the payment for constructing drains and walkways alongside the NH4, which he did for Garg and Sons.
More than 20 labourers were seen protesting against the company Garg and Sons as a result of which, a team of Police also rushed the spot to maintain law and order. Later the protest was called off by the Sub-Contractor after some mutual agreement with the company, it is learnt.
Doctor donates blood for needy patient at PHC Billyground

Port Blair, Oct 04: Dr. Suriya Kant Singh, CMO (Ayurveda) PHC Billyground on Saturday set an outstanding example by donating blood to a severely ill patient namely Mr. Sannyasi Roy, who was admitted at PHC Billyground.
Owing to the present pandemic situation, blood donation volunteers were hesitant to come to the hospital due to which it was becoming impossible to arrange sufficient blood for the patient who needed the blood immediately.
Having no other options, Dr. Suriya Kant Singh immediately came forward and donated blood to the patient. This humanistic approach of Dr. Singh proved that as and when required the doctors themselves can step forward to save a life.
The parents of the patient expressed their heartfelt gratitude towards Dr Singh. The Pradhan and other PRI members as well as public of the region highly appreciated the immediate response given by Dr S. K.Singh.
Special Officer/Administrator Appointed for Zilla Parishads and Gram Panchayat

Port Blair, Oct 01: The Lieutenant Governor of Andaman & Nicobar Islands has appointed senior government officers as Special officers /Administrators to the respective Zilla Parishads and Gram Panchayats, as an interim measure till the regular elections are conducted.
For South Andaman, Zilla Parishad, Deputy Commissioner of South Andaman has been appointed as the Special Officers/Administrator while for North and Middle Andaman, Zilla Parishad, Deputy Commissioner of N&M Andaman has been appointed as the Special Officer/Administrator. The date of completion of tenure of South Andaman Zilla Parishad is 10.10.2020 while N & M Zilla Parishad is 09.10.2020.
For Panchayats, many other senior officers have been appointed as the Special Officer/Administrator as per respective dates of completion of tenure.
The order concluded saying that, Special Officers/Administrators shall exercise all powers and duties conferred upon the respective Zilla Parishads and Gram Panchayats for which they are appointed.
One Arrested for attempting to Murder Neighbour

Port Blair, Sept 29: An attempt to murder case was reported in Police Station Pahargaon yesterday night in which a private worker of Bathubasti had reportedly attacked his neighbor with a knife.
As per information, Mr. Raj Kumar, the accused was staying with his cousins and is an alcoholic by nature. As per public after consuming alcohol he always used to indulge in disputes with neighbours.
Yesterday night his cousin was talking with his neighbour namely Mr. Hemanto Biswas about the Raj Kumar and he overheard the conversation. After which he had a heated argument with Mr. Hemanto and during the argument he stabbed Mr. Hemanto with a knife in his stomach. Other neighbours immediately reported this matter to police and took Mr. Hemanto to Garacharma PHC, from where he was shifted to G B Pant. After the incident Mr. Raj Kumar reportedly ran away but later police arrested him and produced him in court.
Man impregnates minor and escapes; POCSO case registered

Port Blair, September 28: A man working in a Private Hotel at Bathubasti escaped to Kolkata after allegedly impregnating an 8th standard girl.
As per reports, the girl was under depression for a few days, and when her mother found something fishy, she questioned her daughter following which the daughter narrated complete story to her mother about her relationship with the man who escaped to Kolkata.
A few days later, the mother, in doubt, did a pregnancy test of her daughter, which came positive.
The girl’s mother has registered a complaint to the Pahargaon Police Station in this regard, as a result of which the Pahargaon Police has registered a POCSO case against the man, yesterday. Further details are awaited.
Spike in Covid19 cases in Little Andaman; District Administration sets up two COVID Care Centres
Port Blair, Sept 25: The District Administration is taking various proactive measures to contain the spread of COVID-19 pandemic in inter islands. As part of the same to take first hand stock of the ground situation, the Deputy Commissioner (SA) , Mr. Suneel Anchipaka alongwith the SOM (SA) and the AC (U /T) had visited the Little Andaman Island on 23.09.2020 to make necessary arrangements regarding setting up of COVID Care Centres and to ensure preparedness in the fight against COVID-19.
Mr. Vinay Kumar Jindal, Assistant Commissioner (HQ) has been designated as Special Officer to oversee and monitor the situation in Little Andaman.
As per the decisions taken during the visit of DC(SA) to Little Andaman, two COVID Care Centres have been set up, one at Hut Bay and the other one at Ramakrishnapur with 60 bedded capacity.
More numbers of portable beds with mattresses, bedsheets, pillow and pillow covers are being sent from Port Blair for improving the facilities in the Centres. Staffs have been deputed for sanitation and sanitization of the Centres. Additional toilets and other facilities are being set up on war footing at the two Centres to meet the immediate requirement.
Additional medical team is being deputed from Port Blair to Hut Bay to augment medical staff capacity. Medical kits have been provided for the people with ILI and SARI symptoms. Testing of primary contacts and cases with symptoms of the COVID positive cases are being done.
The entire area of Hut Bay, Ramakrishnapur and Harminder Bay (Part) has been declared as Containment Zones to minimize mobility and further to contain the spread of the pandemic. The general public is advised to strictly follow the two GOLDEN PRINCIPLES of COVID- 19: (1) Wear masks properly (2) Maintain social distancing/Do gaz ki doori.
