Port Blair, May 09: Dr. Angel Bhati Chauhan, IAS, the Deputy Commissioner of North and Middle Andaman today visited Billiground region on inspection to see whether all the people, who are under home isolation, are following COVID-19 SOPs.
After inspection, talking to media the Deputy Commissioner said that she is happy to note that with help of the surveillance team, all the people were found strictly following the COVID-19 SOPs. “Also no person under isolation has any symptoms of COVID-19” she added.
Further she said that specific information was also provided to all the people, under home isolation that if they face any difficulty or if need any essential item or medicines, they can call District Control room, which is working round the clock for them.
She added that in North and Middle Andaman, so far as population is concerned, more than 95% people above 45 years of age have been vaccinated with their first dose. Left out people are also getting vaccinated with the help of other Islanders and NGOs.

Port Blair, May 07: Andaman Sheekha, Daily had first reported about the news that 10 Fishermen of Andaman and Nicobar Islands have been arrested by Myanmar Navy on 10th April 2021 at around 01.00 AM. These fishermen had gone for fishing on 4th April 2021 from Junglighat Jetty in a fishing trawler, namely “Sobha Shree” towards Landfall Island, North Andaman.
Now it has been learned from highly placed sources that all 10 fishermen have been sent to jail for six months by Myanmar, however no one knows in which court this case was heard.
A senior officer of Andaman and Nicobar Administration, on the condition of anonymity, told Andaman Sheekha that the case is now beyond the jurisdiction of Fisheries Department and the matter is now being taken up by Ministry of External Affairs with the Myanmar Government.
Meanwhile, taking to Andaman Sheekha, Mr. Shekhar the owner of the fishing trawler, namely “Sobha Shree” said that the fishermen of the trawlers were fishing with the help of long fishing lines and it is possible that they had put the fishing lines in sea at night and slept when the trawler drifted towards Myanmar. “The staffs of the trawlers have no knowledge of international borders. I wrote letter and submitted in many departments but till now nothing concrete has been done to bring back the arrested fishermen,” he said.
Earlier, in some occasions fishermen arrested by Myanmar were released in exchange of fishermen of Myanmar, who are arrested in Andaman and kept in local Jail. Friends and relatives of arrested fishermen hope that in this case also similar arrangement will be made by government of India but for that local politicians and local officers of A & N Administration must pursue the matter regularly.

Port Blair, May 06: The Central Crime Station Unit of Andaman and Nicobar Police has launched a detailed investigation against a suspected Bangladeshi national, who has been living in Port Blair with fake Indian documents and was working as Barbar in Delanipur area of Port Blair city.
The accused, Mr. Nayan Sarkar, 30 years has been detained by CCS unit of Andaman and Nicobar Police and detailed investigations are on.
As per sources the accused entered India with Bangladeshi Passport in 2015 and then from West Bengal he obtained fake Birth Certificate, Local Identity Card, Pan Card and Adhaar Card and then he came to Andaman and Nicobar Islands for work.
When a red flag was raised by concerned Ministry regarding this accused, who entered India but did not return, a joint investigating team was formed to investigate the matter.
There are high possibilities that the accused will be arrested soon after detailed investigation. Sources said that brother of the accused who was also working in Andaman have already left Andaman in recent past.
The Director General of Police, A & N Islands have also recently twitted about this issue and also uploaded the Aadhar card of the accused in his twitter message .In several occasions in past, Andaman Sheekha Daily had raised the issue of Bangladeshi illegal immigrants working in Andaman with fake certificates. Infact nearly four to five years back some illegal Bangladeshi Nationals were identified and detained at Diglipur but later only a few were arrested and others were allowed to go due to political pressure.

Port Blair, May 5: 665 doses of COVISHIELD vaccines were administered to the eligible beneficiaries by the health teams today (May 5), taking the total number of doses of vaccines administered so far to 1,11,819. The district wise data on regarding administering of COVISHIELD doses to the eligible beneficiaries on May 4 by the Health Department states that in South Andaman, 385 persons above 45 were administered the vaccine while in North & Middle Andaman District, 102 persons and in Nicobar District, 178 were vaccinated,
Meanwhile, the vaccination drive is continuing in A&N Islands in an effective manner and health teams designated in various vaccination centres spread across the Islands are vaccinating all the beneficiaries above 45, who visit the centres spread over the A&N Islands on a daily basis. The vaccination sessions are continuing in more than 88 designated vaccination centres set up in different parts of the Islands towards the fight against Corona virus, a press release from DHS said.

The vaccination sessions are continuing in more than 88 designated vaccination centres set up in different parts of the Islands towards the fight against Corona virus. 619 doses of COVISHIELD vaccines were administered to the eligible beneficiaries by the health teams today (May 4), taking the total number of doses of vaccines administered so far to 1,11,154.
The district wise figure administering of COVISHIELD doses to the eligible beneficiaries on May 4 by the Health Department states that in South Andaman, 393 persons above 45 were administered the vaccine while in North & Middle Andaman District, 137 persons and in Nicobar District, 89 were vaccinated, a press release from DHS said.

Port Blair, May 02: The Deputy Commissioner of N & M Andaman today said that the District Administration has taken various stringent measures to contain the spread of COVID-19 virus in the District.

Talking to media the Deputy Commissioner today said that as of now the passengers who were standard in N & M Andaman were given one-time- permission for movement to South Andaman and arrangements were made as per requirements.

“We are making sure that there should not be any scarcity of essential supplies viz LPG Cylinders, Petrol & Diesel etc. in the N & M Andaman District. Any kind of hoardings or black marketing under present circumstance is punishable,” she warned.

The DC appealed all the citizens that they should extend their cooperation with Administration and strictly follow all the guidelines issued by Administration as well as the Government of India. Eligible people should get vaccination as soon as possible, she added.

The mentioned that the District Administration is keeping close eye on people who are in Home Quarantine and making sure that there is no violation so that there is no spread of COVID-19 infection.

The DC of NMA said that all the essential shops will be opened for islanders and therefore people must avoid travelling for goods and if Islanders are facing shortage of any item they can report about the same in District control room.

Port Blair, Apr 30: A water tanker skidded off the National Highway 4 at Jaipur village of Mayabunder region, near Korang Nallah Bridge today.
It is learnt that the driver and the cleaner somehow managed to survive the accident with minor injuries but the water tanker, went off the road and tilted towards the right side.
Later, the driver and the cleaner, who sustained minor injuries, were rushed to the nearby hospital by the Billiground Police.

Port Blair, Apr 29: Dr Angel Bhati Chauhan, the Deputy Commissioner of North and Middle Andaman District today said that it is necessary that the people of A & N Islands must understand the seriousness of this pandemic situation. “Until and unless public cooperates with Administration, we can’t fight against the virus effectively,” she said.
The DC said that Administration is doing its best and she is happy that people of North and Middle Andaman District are cooperating with the District Administration and following all Covid-19 protocols. “People are also participating in the vaccination drive conducted by administration in good number” she added.
She pointed out that still some irresponsible people are found violating the Covid-19 protocols, against whom, strict action has been taken.
The DC urged public that as responsible citizens they should keep an eye on the surroundings and remain vigilant. They should inform immediately if they find anyone violating COVID-19 protocols.
She said that Andaman and Nicobar Administration has ordered fresh consignment of vaccines for the Islanders, as soon as the administration receives the delivery, the Administration will start vaccination of people of 18-44 years age group. Meanwhile the people who have been vaccinated and their date for 2nd dose of vaccination is coming, they must take their 2nd dose of vaccination too.
“We are working for the special arrangement of buses for teachers who want to go to their home for summer vacation’’ the DC NMA added.
