Port Blair, Apr 10: Responding to the emergent situation, Andaman and Nicobar Command’s Floating Dock Navy (FDN)-2 successfully undertook dry docking of two DSS ships MV Bharat Seema and MV Strait Island on 03 Apr 24.
Towards this, NSRY of ANC swiftly mobilized its expertise and resources for obtaining Naval HQs approval of docking plans, preparation of dock bed with 81 dock blocks and undertaking the operation, within a short duration of five days. Upon completion, ongoing repairs and undocking scheduled on 15 Apr 24, both ships would be seaworthy to ensure the critical inter-island lifeline services. While this is the maiden twin docking of DSS ships, ANC has regularly provided the much needed critical docking support on FDN-1 as well as FDN-2 to civil ships operating in A&N.
A towering testimony to ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’, FDN –2 was indigenously constructed at M/s L&T facility at Kattupalli, Chennai and inducted into Naval Ship Repair Yard (NSRY), Port Blair on 25 May 2018. There are only two FDNs in the Indian Navy and both are at Port Blair. The extremely complex machinery and systems of these FDNs allow them to submerge upto 13 m to haul in and dock ships. These FDNs are manned by a very competent, trained crew of the Indian Navy.
Prompt Police Action Saves Injured Man in Mayabunder
Port Blair, Apr 09: In a prompt response on Monday afternoon, a 55-year-old man from Mohanpur was rescued by local police in Mayabunder and admitted to the hospital after being found heavily intoxicated and injured on the roadside.
Witnesses reported the distressing scene to Mayabunder Police Station upon noticing the injured man’s critical condition. Responding promptly, the Mayabunder Police staff arrived at the location, discovering the person, later identified as Mr. Birshu Kujur, in an unconscious state, urgently requiring medical attention.
Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the police swiftly arranged for Mr. Kujur’s transportation to Mayabunder District Hospital via a PCR van. Thanks to the timely intervention and necessary medical treatment provided, Mr. Kujur’s condition stabilized, offering a ray of hope amidst the dire circumstances.
The commendable efforts of Mayabunder Police have garnered appreciation from the residents of Mayabunder.
King Cobra Captured from Teacher’s Quarters in Middle Andaman

Port Blair, Apr 08: In a daring rescue operation, a highly venomous King Cobra measuring 12 feet in length was captured from the Teacher’s Quarters of Navodaya School in Panchwati Village, Middle Andaman. The incident occurred in the afternoon around 4 PM on April 7, 2024, when the Wildlife Division Team of the Forest Department swiftly responded to the situation.
Led by Mr. Manjeet Singh, renowned as the “Snake Man of Andamans” and serving as the Deputy Ranger of the Wildlife unit of the Forest Department, the team successfully secured the snake. Assisted by the Wildlife Team, Mr. Singh demonstrated remarkable expertise and caution in handling the dangerous reptile.
Crackdown on Bootlegging: Central Crime Station Police Escalate Operations Ahead of A&N Islands Elections
Port Blair, Apr: In a relentless campaign against bootlegging and the illicit liquor trade, the Central Crime Station police have intensified their crackdown keeping in view the upcoming elections in A&N Islands. In this direction, a strategic Jungle search operation was conducted on 07/04/24 in the Caddlegunj, Ograbraj area.
The dedicated team from PS Central Crime Station, comprising HC/Baroi, PC/Srinivas, PC/Amose, and PC/Chandran under the supervision of SHO, PS CCS Inspr. Girish Kumar, meticulously executed the operation. Their search unearthed 14 concealed tins containing approximately 195 liters of fermented solution (Lehan), a vital ingredient in the production of illicit liquor. Swift action was taken to destroy the illicit substance, with thorough documentation through photography to prevent its misuse in preparation of illicit liquor.
Further strengthening their enforcement efforts, multiple raids were conducted on 06/04/24, resulting in the apprehension of two bootleggers namely K. Mani, R/o Bhatubasti and Shyamal Rao, R/o Calicut near Pump House and confiscated 40 bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) during these operations.

N&M Andaman District Police Remains Committed to Zero Tolerance for Illegal Activities
Port Blair, Apr 05: The Kalighat Police conducted a swift and efficient operation that resulted in the successful confiscation of a significant quantity of illicit liquor in the dense forests of Talbagan, Doctor Para, Sagar Par Khari, and Paschim Sagar.
SI Ashok Kumar Baghel, SHO, PS Kalighat, demonstrated exceptional leadership by assembling a specialized team consisting of ASI Mukesh Charan, I/c ,OP Kishorinagar, PCs Jaspal Singh, Ripon Mistry, Ranjit, Sushil Sarkar and Irenious. The proactive team successfully seized a significant quantity of 750 liters of illicit lehan and 4.5 liters of illicit liquor, along with various utensils and timber materials used in the production process. These materials were clandestinely hidden within the jungles. Following the seizure, the illicit lehan was promptly destroyed on-site, along with the other materials used in the production process. The seized illicit liquor was brought to PS Kalighat and a case under Excise Regulation has been registered, dealing a major blow to the illegal liquor manufacturing network.
The entire operation was carried out under the vigilant supervision of Mr. Brij Mohan Meena, DANIPS, SDPO Diglipur, and the overall direction and supervision of Ms. Geetanjali Khandelwal, IPS, Superintendent of Police, N&M Andaman District.

UT Administration Declares ‘Dry Day’ on Poll, counting days in Lok Sabha Polls: Ban enacted under Representation of People’s Act, 1951 and other laws
Port Blair, Apr. 4: In terms of the provisions contained under Section 135 C of the Representation of the People Act 1951 and read with Rule 86 of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands Excise Regulation 2012, Hon’ble Lt. Governor Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands hereby orders the following days to be observed as ‘Dry Days’ throughout the Andaman and Nicobar Islands:-

No liquor shops, hotel, restaurants, club and establishments selling/serving liquor shall be permitted to sell/serve liquor to anyone whosoever on the aforesaid days.
This order is also applicable to IMFL vending licensees i.e. ANIIDCO, CSD Units (Unit Running Canteens), all Defence Canteens, Police Mess and all private bar licensees.
The Chief Electoral Officer, A&N Islands, Shri B S Jaglan, IAS has directed all concerned authorities to take appropriate action and enforce dry day declaration in letter & sprit and assist the election authorities for conducting smooth, free & fair elections in this UT.
ECI asked Political Party, Candidate, Organization or Person to refrain from publishing any advertisement in Print Media without Pre Certification on Poll Day and one day prior to Poll Day
Port Blair, Apr. 2: The Election Commission of India has asked Political Parties or Candidates or any other Organizations or Person to refrain from publishing any advertisement in the print media without Pre-certification on Poll Day and one day prior to Poll Day.
The Election Commission in its letter issued to the Chief Electoral Officers of all States & UTs on April 1,2024, has stated that instances of advertisements of offending and misleading nature published in print media have been brought to the notice of the Commission in the past. Such advertisements in the last stage of the election vitiate the entire election process and the affected candidates and parties will not have any opportunity of providing clarification/rebuttal in such cases.
The Election Commission further states that in order to ensure that such instances are not repeated, and no untoward incident takes place because of any inflammatory, misleading or hate advertisements, the Commission, in exercise of its powers under Article 324 of the Constitution and all other powers enabling it in this behalf, hereby directs that no Political Party or Candidate or any other Organization or Person shall publish any Advertisement in the print media on poll day and one day prior to poll day, unless the contents of political advertisements are got Pre-certified by them from the MCMC at the State/District level, as the case may be. This will apply in the case of political advertisements to be published in the print media in circulation in the States/UTs going to poll in different phases.
In the first phase, the Restricted Days are (Poll Day-April 19, 2024) & (one day prior to Poll Day-April 18, 2024).
The Election Commission further informs that Political Party or Candidate or any other Organization or Person above shall have to apply to MCMC not later than 02 (two) days prior to the proposed date of publication of advertisement.
Communist Party Releases Election Manifesto for 2024 LS Elections for Andaman and Nicobar Islands

Port Blair, Apr 02: The Communist Party of India (M) today unveiled its election manifesto for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, focusing on key issues concerning the region and its people.
Mr. Vijoo Krishnan, Central Committee Member, CPI(M) and General Secretary, All India Kisan Sabha released the local manifesto for Andaman and Nicobar Islands and outlined the manifesto’s highlights, emphasizing the party’s commitment to addressing the concerns of the local populace.
Addressing media persons he said that despite promises made by the current government, the situation regarding job creation, farmers’ welfare, and economic stability has worsened in the past decade.
He added that the Communist Party pledges to fight against communal forces and work towards inclusive development for all sections of society.
Addressing the gathering Mr. D Ayyappan, the CPI(M) candidate for 2024 Lok Sabha Elections for Andaman and Nicobar Islands LS Constituency said that the manifesto includes plans for promoting and protecting the local industries, ensuring job opportunities for the youth, and safeguarding the environment.
He said that if the CPI (M) candidate is elected, the Party shall endeavor to achieve the following demands, in addition to the All India Manifesto of the CPI (M) for
the 18th Lok Sabha election:
1. Promoting, protecting and preserving of the islands’ unique ethos and social fabric of “unity and amity in diversity”.
2. Establishment of Legislative Assembly on the Puducherry model for A & N Islands.
3. Securing of separate Lok Sabha seat for the Nicobars District to be exclusively reserved for the Nicobari tribals.

5. 100% job to local youth of Andaman & Nicobar Islands in Group B (Non- Gazetted) and Group C.

9. Diversion of deemed forest area for developmental work in the islands

Port Blair, Apr.1:The election schedule has been announced by the Election Commission of India, vide Press Note No.ECI/PN/23/2024 dated 16.03.2024 and No.ECI/PN/24/2024 dated 16.03.2024, which stipulates that the General Election of Andaman and Nicobar Islands Parliamentary Constituency will be held in single phase on 19.04.2024 (Friday).
In exercise of powers conferred under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instrument Act,1881 read with MHA’s Notification No.2/6/57-J dated 17.12.1957 and in pursuance of Section 135B of the Representation of People Act, 1951 read with letter No.78/EPS.2024 dated 16th March, 2024 of Election Commission of India, the Lt. Governor, Andaman & Nicobar Islands has declared public holiday on the day of Poll i.e. 19.04.2024 (Friday) for all Public Offices, Local Bodies and Educational Institutions and a paid holiday for all Commercial Establishments/undertakings in the UT of A&N Islands.
PS Kaligaht Seized Significant Quantity of Illicit Liquor from Dense Jungle of Parangara Village
Port Blair, Mar. 29:In a swift and efficient operation carried out on 29/03/2024, the Kalighat Police successfully confiscated a significant quantity of illicit liquor at dense forest, near Parangara Village.
Acting promptly on a tip, SI Ashok Kumar Baghel, SHO, PS Kalighat formed a specialized team consisting of ASI Mukesh Charan, I/c OP Kishorinagar, PCs Ripon Mistry and Irenious. The proactive team successfully seized a significant quantity of 07 liters of illicit liquor, and 120 litres of Lehan along with various Bhatti article & utensils used in the production process of illicit liquor. These materials were clandestinely hidden within the jungle. Subsequently, 120 litres of confiscated Lehan and other articles used for the preparation were destroyed on the spot. The seized illicit liquor was brought to the PS and a case under Excise Regulation has been registered.
The entire operation was carried out under the vigilant supervision of Shri. Brij Mohan Meena, DANIPS, SDPO Diglipur, and the overall direction and supervision of Ms. Geetanjali Khandelwal, IPS, Superintendent of Police, N&M Andaman District.
