Port Blair, Apr 30: Admiral DK Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.), the Lt Governor, A&N Islands and Vice-Chairman, Islands Development Agency reviewed a Presentation made by Consultants on initial draft Master Plan for Great Nicobar Island Township. Holistic development of various visionary mega Projects with investments of over Rs. 75,000/- crore under Maritime India Vision 2030 including International container Transhipment Terminal (ICTT), Green Field Airport, Power Plant nearing finalisation of preparatory phase and will prove to be a Force multiplier aimed in developing A&N Islands as Economic Hub. Shri Keshav Chandra, IAS, Chief Secretary and Senior Officers of A&N Administration and A&N Forest were also present.
Port Blair Airport Ready for Night Operations
Port Blair, Apr 29: Aviation infrastructure at INS Utkrosh has undergone significant enhancements with the installation of several equipment under the Project MAFI (Modernisation of Airfield Infrastructure) conceived at Naval Headquarters, New Delhi and executed under the aegis of Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC). This includes new Airfield Lighting System (AFLS), Cat II
Approach Lighting System (ALS), Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI). Coupled with the Glide Path (GP) of the Instrument Landing System (ILS) recently installed by AAI, Port Blair has become a Precision Instrument Runway capable of landing during night and poor visibility conditions. Additionally, the Commissioning of Tactical Air Navigation System (TACAN) and Precision Approach Radar (PAR) herald a quantum jump for safety and operations of military flights, including fighter operations. These developments make Utkrosh Airfield fully capable of handling both day and night operations. Overall, apart from its strategic importance, these developments mark a crucial step in improving regional connectivity and strengthening the UDAN scheme, benefiting islanders and enabling tourists to visit and explore exotic places in
North Andaman and Nicobar islands.
D. Ayyappan Congratulates Miss Zohra Banu for Remarkable Achievement in UPSC Civil Services Examination-2023
Port Blair, Apr 28: Mr. D. Ayyappan, Secretary, CPI (M) Andaman & Nicobar State Organising Committee on 26th April, 2024 met Miss Zohra Banu, who stood 469 rank in the Civil Services Eamination-2023 of UPSC, at her residence at Calicut, South Andaman and congratulated her for her success in the country’s most difficult examination. Mr. Ayyappan honoured her with shawl and extended CPI (M)’s appreciation to her parents. He expressed the hope that Miss Zohra Banu will be an inspiration for the coming generation and for all those who aspire for cracking the Civil Service Examination, in the islands.
Joint Inspection for water Sources
Port Blair, Apr 26: In view of rising water crises at Mayabunder zone, Shri. Ashish Joon, Assistant Commissioner (HQ), Mayabunder carried out inspection along with ACF, Forest Ranger, AE (APWD), JE (APWD), Patwari & concern area Pradhan on 25/04/2024 at the proposed site of Rampur and Karmatang IX under Mayabunder Tehsil for creating new resources, augmentation of the existing resources, creation of new ponds in order to minimize the ongoing water crises. District Administration N&MA has been initiating necessary steps for constructing Ring well for fulfilling the shortage of water. Further, water tankers are being used for supply of drinking water from Korangnalah to Mayabunder to resolve the water problems by protecting natural resources.

CPI (M) Express Concern over Shortage of Medicine at Ayush Hospitals
Port Blair, Apr 24: CPI (M) has expressed concern over the non-availability of medicines in the Aush Hospital at Port Blair. In a letter sent to the Director of Health Services, A & N Islands, D. Ayyappan, Secretary, CPI (M) A & N State Organising Committee said that there is acute shortage of medicines in the Ayush Hospital at Port Blair. He said that almost all the medicines prescribed by the doctors are unavailable in the Ayush hospital. He said that patients are forced to purchase the Ayush medicines from private medical stores.
Ayyappan said that patients from the lowest strata of the society are facing hardship to purchase medicines from private medical stores.
Ayyappan urged the Director of Health Services to take immediate steps to ensure that all the medicines prescribed by the doctors in the Ayush hospitals are made available to the patients. He further demanded that the issue of non-availability of medicines in the Ayush Hospital at Port Blair may be inquired into and appropriate action taken to avoid recurrence of such a situation in future.

Port Blair, Apr 21: Ms. Zohra Banu a Resident of this Island was felicitated on 20 April 2024 by Ummat Public School in a grand function organised by the institution. The function was graced by the esteemed Management Committee Members, Principal, Headmistress, Teachers, Students and Media for her undaunted success in UPSC.
The programme started with a Prayer (Sura Fathia) followed by a Welcome Address by Ms. M. Thamarai Selvi, Headmistress Ummat Public School.
Ms. Zohra Banu was a student of Ummat Public School (Batch 1995-2009) turned emotional in her speech and conveyed heartfelt thanks to all her teachers and the school for inculcating in her moral, intellectual and leadership qualities at a very young age which helped her to achieve the success. A&N POLICE ENSURES DEMOCRATIC PARTICIPATION OF ITS PERSONNEL
Port Blair, Apr 19: In a commendable effort to uphold democratic values, the Andaman and Nicobar Police have actively encouraged maximum participation of their personnel polling in the 2024 Lok Sabha Election. Despite logistical challenges due to the geographical remoteness of certain islands in the archipelago, the A&N Police have successfully organized the voting process for their personnel deployed in these areas.
In a specific instance, personnel stationed at the Look-Out Posts (LOPs) manned by the India Reserve Battalion and Armed Police Unit on the remote islands of Tillang Chaung and Narcondum were efficiently transferred to Nancowrie and Diglipur respectively to exercise their voting rights. This practical approach highlights the commitment of the A&N Police to ensure that every citizen’s voice is heard, irrespective of their location.
Under the leadership of Shr.
