Various Committees Formed to ensure better environment for Education

Port Blair, July 25:  The Premier Science School of the Tribal region of the Nicobar District, Govt. Senior Secondary School Lapathy, conducted its first Parents-Teachers Association meeting of the current session, today at the Community hall of the Big Lapathy village. The First Captain from Kinyuka village Shri Othniel, Shri Kindness from Kinmai, Shri Prophet from Tetop, Shri Regionald Watchful from the remote Kimious village, Shri John Levi from Mus , the representative Smti Orlin James from Tamaloo village and many other captains from the different villages were the invited guests on the occasion.

In the 2 hours long deliberations in the meeting, under the chairmanship of Smti Ireena Mark, the First Captain of the Small Lapathy, many committees were formed, ensuring conducive environment

in the School, to facilitate qualitative Education. The first captain of the Big Lapathy Village Shri Manua Thomas was elected the Chairman of the School Management Committee and Smti Daisy, PGT was chosen the Chairperson of the Mothers’ Committee. Similarly executive committee for School building committee was also formed.

Addressing the gathering of Parents, the Chairperson Smti Ireena mark said that the committees are formed for the betterment of the students, and the parents should cooperate the school management in this regard. She asked the paren ts to provide their children favourable environment at home to study, and follow the instructions given by the school, regarding the studies of the children.

 

Insisting on motivating the children to go to school regularly, the Captain of the Kinmai village Shri Kindness called upon the parents to make use of the facilities being provided by the Govt. for the Education of the students of the tribal region.

Earlier the Vice Principal of the School Smti Mani Mala Halder in her speech sought the cooperation of the parents in achieving the objectives. She requested the Parents to motivate their children to come to School daily, and inculcate the habit of study at home.

Talking about the Mid Day Meal Scheme, she said that good quality food is provided at the school, to the students up to class VIII. She urged the parents of the students of class IX onwards, to send their children with Tiffin.  Expressing her satisfaction over the improved CBSE results this year, she said that ,this year too night classes will be conducted to achieve better results in the board Exams. Shri Minus conducted the PTA meeting and requested the parents to be in touch with the teachers of their children, to know about the progress.

 

Car Nicobar, July 24:

The long cherished dream of the people of southern group of Islands, especially the people of Car Nicobar, was fulfilled as India established air connectivity with this remotest part of the country. The historic moment for the residents of Nicobar group of Islands came with the inauguration of a chartered flight service in the Port Blair – Car Nicobar sector by the Lt Governor, A & N Islands, Lt Gen (Retd) A K Singh at the Indian Air Force Station, Car Nicobar today.

Speaking on the occasion, the Lt Governor said, “this momentous achievement is an outcome of synergy between the Government of India and Andaman & Nicobar Administration. The task of introducing a chartered flight between Port Blair and Car Nicobar was undertaken as part of the 100 days target of the Ministry of Home, Civil Aviation and the A&N Administration. This significant service has ultimately connected the people of this particular area with the rest of the country”. The Lt Governor reiterated the commitment of the Administration for the welfare of the people of the far flung islands.

The Lt Governor also thanked the Prime Minister for the push that led to the achievement of this target in such a short span of time.

The Lt Governor stated that the Administration is sensitive to the needs of the people of all the islands, right from Diglipur to Campbell Bay.

Reiterating the commitment of the Administration for the welfare of all the tribal people of the Islands, the Lt Governor said, “the Administration remains responsible and accountable for the safety and well being of our tribes”.

Congratulating the people of Andaman & Nicobar, the Lt Governor said, “the services of this Alliance Air Flight would connect the most distant District Headquarter of the country to the capital of the nation in 4-5 hours”.

The Alliance Air flight will give its services in the Delhi-Port Blair-Car Nicobar-Port Blair-Delhi sector once in a week, every Thursday. The Lt Governor also thanked the CEO of Alliance Air, Shri Anil Mehta for his whole hearted support in this endeavour of A & N Administration.

Earlier welcoming the august gathering, the Secretary, Tribal Council, Car Nicobar, Shri Martin Luther expressed his gratitude towards the Govt of India and the A & N Administration for working in tandem to fulfil this demand of the people of Nicobar Islands.

On arrival, the Lt Governor was received by the Chairman, Tribal Council, Car Nicobar, Shri Aberdeen Blair, Dy Commissioner, Station Commander, IAF and SP, Nicobar.

Senior officials from Alliance Air, Commander-in- Chief, ANC, Vice Admiral P K Chatterjee, Adhyaksha, Zilla Parishad, South Andaman, Ms V K Mariyam Bibi, Chairperson, SSWB, Smt Ratna Kannan, PBMC Chairperson, Shri K Ganeshan, State President, BJP A&N Islands, Shri Vishal Jolly, Chief Secretary, Shri Anand Prakash, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Civil Aviation, Shri Mohan Jeet Singh were among the dignitaries present on this joyous occasion besides residents of the Island and students. Adding colour to the inaugural ceremony, the Nicobari youth presented song and folk dance much to the delight of the gathering. The DC Nicobar, Smt Sakshi Mittal proposed the vote of thanks at the end of this function.

At the Veer Savarkar International Airport at Port Blair in the morning, the passengers going to Car Nicobar by this maiden flight were accorded a red carpet welcome.

 

 

 

Car Nicobar, July 10:  The unnecessary delay in issuing transfer orders of the Assistant and Junior Engineers posted for the last many years in the Nicobar district has induced a sense of insecurity and uncertainty. There are Engineers who have already completed their tenure in this hard region of Islands leaving their families at Port Blair, but their applications for transfer do not get the attention of the top authorities of the APWD at Port Blair. Saddened by this dejection the Engineers are feeling helplessness.

The Engineers approached the MP Shri Bishnu Pada Ray during his recent visit to Car Nicobar and requested him to take up the matter. It was observed by the MP that the transfer policy of 2007 has not been followed by the department. The Policy clearly states the tenure of group A& B staff as 2 years. But after serving for more than 3 years they have not been transferred from here. The MP assured them that he would take up the matter with the concerned authorities and would ensure that the transfer policy is followed in future also.

It is pertinent that Shri Ray had been taking up the issue of transfer of the Govt. Employees posted at Nicobar district, at the highest level of the Administration and the efforts brought smiles on the faces on the teachers working in this difficult zone, when the Chief Secretary convened a review meeting in the presence of MP and the service organizations recently. After one and half hours deliberations, it was decided to keep the tenure in the hardest areas of the Islands as one year and the general tenure for the Nicobar district to be 2 academic sessions for teachers.

Now the APWD staffs are also expecting the same from the administration. Though a policy was framed in 2007 by the Secretary Personnel but it is not being followed by APWD. Sources say that the transfer orders are issued on the directions of the Chief Engineer. The J.Es and A.Es close to the CE gets postings of their choice and the disliked officials are sent to Nicobar district on punishment of not being the ‘yes man’ of CE. Every year the officials apply for transfer but in vain.  However the officials are hopeful that the LG and MP would feel their grievances and would do justice with them and the endless wait for transfer would end soon.

Campbell Bay, June 18: On receipt of complaint on various issues pertaining to PHC Campbell Bay from the general public, the Pradhan Dharma and Samity Members of Campbell Bay gram Panchayat submitted the grievances to the Assistant Commissioner Mr Akhil who accompanied Panchayat members to the PHC Campbell bay and found that the food are being cooked in very unhygienic way.

According to a press release issued by Pradesh Congress Committee, the team reportedly found that patients are given rice, which is actually procured from local market at the rate of  Rs. 10/- per kg but for the same inflated bills of Rs. 29/- per kg is submitted in hospital. Not only this, the garbage of the hospital is kept near the female ward ignoring safety of female patients.

The team also found that the patients are not served vegetable which is an essential food supplement. Beside the double door fridge purchased for the use of the hospital is being used by the Doctor of PHC at her residence.

The team noted that the toilet of the Hospital is in horrible shape. The release of PCC added that when contacted the Doctor to submit the matters before her by the PRI members, instead of listening to the Samity Members, the Doctor complained to DHS against visit of the Panchayat Members in the hospital.

 

Car Nicobar, June 05: The summer coaching camp for the young boys and girls in different sports, began at Bishop John Richardson Stadium today. In this 15 days long camp, the selected sportsperson of 12 to 18 years age group will be given training in Table Tennis, Badminton, Volley Ball and cycling.

Inaugurating the camp the Chief Guest, Secretary of the Tribal Council Shri Martin Luther called upon the students to make use of the camp. Informing about the format of the camp the Block Sports officer Shri Birendra Pradhan said that the 5 trainers from Port Blair have already reached Car Nicobar for the camp. He said that, during the camp, promising sports persons of weight lifting would also be selected who would be imparted training by Sports Authority of India.

The Education officer Shri H. Nathaniel in his address said that the Administration is paying special attention to provide better sports facilities in Car Nicobar and better results could be seen in the coming days. Expressing his happiness on the improved CBSE results he said, that this year the hard work of the teachers and students has brought very good results. The Principal of the Govt. SSS. Malacca was also present on this occasion. The camp is organized by the State Sports Council in association with Directorate of Sports and Department of Education.

Car Nicobar, May 27: In a major fire at Car Nicobar, two shops situated at Headquarter area have been completely gutted. According to reports the a fire due to Short Circuit reportedly triggered from a Ice Cream Shop ‘Cool Bar’ in Headquarter area. The fire soon engulfed the vegetable shop also, situated adjacent. The Ice Cream Shop and Vegetable shops have been reduced to ashes. According to reports a few other structures nearby also suffered the burnt. More details are awaited.

Car Nicobar, Mar 03: The first phase of the Football Coaching concluded today at Car Nicobar. An Exhibition Match was played between the team of young trainees and the Ex- Players of Subroto Mukherjee Cup. The young team did not disappoint their Coach and played beautifully, showing the Competitive abilities they have. Both teams were 2-2 in the first half. The second half was dominated by the young trainees most of the time, but they did not capitalize the chances of converting the attempts into goals. Young trainees were playing their first ever match after the coaching. The Coach Mr. Joe Paul Ancheri was watching the match very closely and pointed out the weak areas of the players after the match. The General Secretary of the Nicobar Athletic Association Mr. Peterson Job was the Chief Guest on this occasion and he encouraged the players.

Sharing his experience of the Camp, Coach Mr. Joe Paul Ancheri told that the boys are very talented and they showed tremendous enthusiasm in learning the basics of the game in the camp. He hoped the boys would improve with the exposer of playing more games in the future.

Meanwhile the Director Sports Mr. Lucas Robert informed that there would be a 2 months long Special summer coaching camp at Port Blair. Talking about the camp he said that Intensive coaching would be given to the selected young players of the Islands. He said that apart from the players of Car Nicobar, young players from Nancowry, Hutbay and Port Blair would also get chance to attend the residential coaching camp.

Earlier talking about the concluded camp, the Education Officer Mr. H. Nathaniel said that 50 players were selected from around 100 young players of the different schools of Car Nicobar for this camp .Provision of Special diet was ensured for the players during the camp.

This was the first ever Football Coaching camp for the School Students after the Tsunami Tragedy, in which a reputed coach from main land has been engaged for the training. Mr. Nathaniel told that players of 14, 15 and 16 years of age groups were selected for the camp in order to prepare teams for the forthcoming Subroto Mukherjee Cup(under 17) for 2014 and 2015.

Katchal, Jan 03: Miss. Reena Kumari, Silver Medallion of IX Junior Asian Rowing Championship- 2013 held at Uzbekistan has been felicitated in a grand function organized at GSSS Kapanga, Katchal on 03rd January 2014.

The students and teachers welcomed the International Sports Icon and the Sports Ambassador of Katchal Island by the Beating Drums and with grand Applause.

Shri. Donald Samuel, Vice Chief-Captain was the Chief Guest, praised the Sports Personality and Presented a Memento, Cash Prize and an Achievement Certificate. In his address he stated that, Miss REENA KUMARI has proved that – even in the Remote Tribal Area, there is a potential for Talent. If necessary Sports Facilities, right motivation and recognition were created more such students can show their achievements in the International Level. He further stated that, she is a Torch Bearer and a Sport Icon of Katchal Island.

Dr. Johnson, Medical Officer, Dr. Santosh Kumar Rath, Shri. Rangarajan, SHO, Shri. Soundararajan, DM (Rubber Division Katchal), Shri. Muruganantham and Shri. Chandra Shekar were the Special Invitees and blessed the budding Sports Personality of the Katchal Island.

Car Nicobar, Dec 18: The strong team of Little Andaman has proved their abilities today and sounded an alarm for the other teams that they are a force to reckon with, in this ongoing 16th President Cup under 17 Soccer Championship being held at Car Nicobar. In their second League match of Pool A against Wimberlygunj , played at Bishop John Richardson Stadium, the LA team dominated the game and won the match comfortably by 6-0.

Reginold and A. Zachariah scored 2 goals each. Shuham and Simon too contributed in the win scoring 1 goal each. With this victory Little Andaman is now placed at No.2 slot after Carnic in Pool A and seems to be a strong contender to enter into the Semis.

The Second match of the day between Maya bunder and Campbell Bay finished goalless. The Maya bunder team got many opportunities but could not succeed in converting attempts into goals. The defenders of C/Bay did good job today.

Earlier in the first Match of the day played in the morning, Port Blair registered their first win defeating Diglipur by 7-1. The star Player Philip Marandi scored 4 goals , Ravi Thapa 2 and Diwakar 1. For Diglipur the lone goal scorer was Sanjay.

Mean while the Great Andamani Boys Buloba and Booyee are very excited seeing the proceedings of the mega tournament. This is their first experience of playing in such a big Championship, in which all the best players of the Islands from Diglipur to Campbell Bay are taking part. They are interacting with the players of the others teams and senior coaches and taking tips to improve their game.
