Diglipur, May 11: The BSNL network went missing in entire North and Middle Andaman since 11 AM today due to Optical Fiber damage, somewhere between Garacharama and Jirkatang.
The location of fault was reportedly identified only by the evening.
Finally the link was restored at 8.30 PM today and as usually since morning all kind of services of BSNL was down in North Andaman region, which has now become a regular affair.
Adding to the plight, now subscribers are also complaining that due to heavy usage of internet during night the internet services totally collapses in North Andaman region after 9.00 PM.
In Diglipur region, the Broadband Internet also connected through IP link in four towers only. In case of any breakdown in OFC these, IP towers provide internet.
Presently about 400 subscribers utilizing broadband and monthly about 30 connections are adding in North Andaman region. Due to this the limited bandwidth is becoming congesting day by day. After the withdrawal of unlimited plans of Broadband, the BSNL internet, which was available in mb/sec speed has now reduced to bites.
There is limited IP links in towers at Diglipur. About 60 MB IP link is available in N & M Andaman. Considering the growing subscriber base the Diglipur region must be provided extra IP link service, public demand.
“If few more main tower links can be added IP LINK (satellite) the network can be used uninterruptedly so that in case of any Optical fiber Cable breakdown, atleast the net and calls will work. The main towers are situated at Shibpur, Madhupur, Aerialbay, Sitanagar, Kalighat & Radhanagar,” sources said.
Car Nicobar, Hut Bay , Neil Island etc are utilizing this IP service. BSNL is the only mobile network which caters from Port Blair to Diglipur while Airtel & Vodafone are providing services in limited area.
Public of North Andaman demand that considering the problems, being faced by public, the administration should take some time to review this network situation of North Andaman.
MV Coral Queen sails full Capacity in Diglipur Route; Public demands more sailings
DJ Venkatesh
Diglipur, May 09: The Chartered vessel MV Coral Queen which started its sailing to Mayabunder & Diglipur with a mare 9 passengers now sailing with its full capacity of 451 passengers.
On one hand, slowly the passenger occupancy has increased to 451 but on the other hand the DSS has reportedly decreased three sailing a week to only one sailing a week.
A large number of people who are not willing to travel in Andaman Trunk Road to reach Port Blair, are happily opting for sea route but sadly instead of having huge demand for big ship, twice a week the DSS is only sending small vessels, which have a capacity of nearly 74 to 94 passengers.
Moreover sailing of small or big vessels is highly unpredictable and hence people are unable to make advance plan for their journey to Port Blair, via sea. Sometimes the sailing are withdrawn without any notice.
Here, tickets for ATR buses are also not available due to increase in the number of passengers during school vacations. In spite of this the administration is not operating additional or big ships like coral queen in Diglipur route frequently.
The President Settlers Offspring Welfare Organisation at Diglipur Mr. Babul Biswas demanded the administration to increase the frequency of the sailing of Coral queen to Diglipur, as per the heavy demand of tickets in summer vacation.
He also demanded to change the sailing time of this ship from Diglipur, from 2pm to 5 pm as, according to him, there is no need of three hours long halt at Mayabunder, like speed boats. This will also save time of the passengers.

The old shopping complex was in need of the repairs and for the same work, permissions were obtained for renovation, it is learnt. Meanwhile a week ago it was found that the building is missing from its place.
It was pertinent to know that neither the Panchayat obtained any permission from Lt Governor to demolish the building as per rules nor did they pass any resolution in Gram Sabha. Moreover the Panchayat also did not constitute any committee for proper demolition of the building.
Speaking to Andaman Sheekha the Panchayat Secretary said that the work was sanctioned only for renovation of the building in two work orders of about 10 Lakhs.
