Diglipur, Jul 19: Inter school zonal level knock-out Football tournament 2018-19 under 14 years for boys began at Vivekananda Stadium, Diglipur on 17th July. Total 14 no’s teams are participating in this tournament.
Mrs. Sangeeta Chand DEO Diglipur was the Chief Guest and Mr. Kanta Rao Asst Director Sports was the Guest of honour on this occasion. The inauguration match was played between GSSS Swarajgram and GMS Sitanagar.
Teen Pregnancy at Billyground; One arrested

Billyground, July 18: A case under POCSO Act has been registered at PS Billyground today against a 26 year old boy of Jaipur village of Middle Andaman for allegedly impregnating a minor girl.
As per reports, the boy was in love with a girl aged 17 years and 8 months and the parents of both, boy and the girl were also aware of this matter. As the girl is a minor, both the families were planning to solemnize their marriage after few months, once the girl attains 18 years.
But when for some health related issue the girl reached PHC Billyground, doctors detected teen pregnancy and the matter was reported to the Police Department.
Police later arrested the boy after confirmation and necessary medical examination under POCSO Act. The boy will be sent to a special court at Port Blair it is learnt.
Huge Quantity of Timber including Liquor Seized at Kalighat; one arrested

Kalighat, July 16: Tremendous efforts in gathering intelligence by the team of Kalighat Police Unit has resulted in successful seizure of 1 cubic Padauk timber and Mawa Timber including 150 bottles of illicit liquor today at 12:30 pm, behind the house of the accused Dilip Bhowmick, R/o Supadi Bagicha, Kalighat.
The raiding team was constituted of Sub-Inspector SN Halder, Head Constable Mansit Xalxo, PC P Prasad, LPC Mery Bernard, HG Gautham Thana. The accused has been arrested and appropriate action is taken against him.
Rape of minor girl reported: Brother-in-Law arrested

Madhupur, Diglipur, July 14: A resident of Madhupur, who is working as a private labourer was arrested today on the charges of raping his sister-in-law by the police at Diglipur.
As per the reports the Minor girl, was presently residing at Madhupur Ward -2 with her father. The accused was also residing nearby in a rented room.
When some Mahila Mandal ladies noticed that the girl is not going to school since few months they reported the matter to the police. In her statement to the police she revealed that the Brother-in-Law was involved in physical relations with her since last three months. The police arrested the accused and tomorrow the accused will be produced in a special court at Port Blair.

PM interaction programme with member of SHGs and Women group
Nimbudera, 12th July: ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (CIARI), North & Middle Andaman organised “live telecast of Hon’ble Prime Minister interaction with member of Self Help Groups (SHGs) and Women group of entire country” at Rampur village of N&M Andaman on 12th July 2018. During the programme Hon’ble PM emphasized the role of women in nation building together with their significant role in nurturing the SHGs in improving family income. He also highlighted that the country’s agriculture sector and dairy sector can’t be imagined without contribution of women. In the programme he had informed that as part of Deen Dayal Antyodaya Yojana, special focus is being accorded to skill development among youths and young people who will be trained to be self-reliant so that they can live according to their will. Besides that achievements of government through different schemes were also explained during the programme as telecasted by the Doordarshan news channel. The programme was viewed by 41 farm women from three self help groups along with Pramukh, Mayabunder, Pradhan, Up-Pradhan, Members, Rampur Gram Panchayat. In the programme Smt. Nachiamma urged the participants to take advantage of different government schemes for the benefits of SHGs and appreciated KVK for organizing such programme in very remote villages. Smt Naw Saviah and Smt. Mustari Begum motivated the members to act swiftly in improving activities of SHGs for higher income. Dr. B.L. Kasinath, Sr. Scientist & Head, KVK spoke about the scope for increasing family income through SHGs and thanked PRIs and others for their active participation in the programme. Rain and strong winds disrupt power supply at Diglipur

Diglipur, Jul 11: Owing to heavy rain with high velocity wind this evening, power supply remained affected in most part of the Diglipur. As per details, one tree at Sardar Tikry and another at Laxmipur Panchayat got uprooted and it fell on electric lines. Due to this one electricity pole got damages. The officials of electricity department are working to restore the power, it is learnt.
Mosquito menace flies high in Billyground

Billyground, July 10: It’s not just the Monsoon that’s troubling the residents of Billyground, as per reports, mosquito menace is also giving them sleepless nights.
In fact, residents wary of the deadly bites and fear of getting diseases like Malaria and Dengue. People living in Billyground region said that they are alarmed by the invasion of mosquitoes, the number of which increased after sunset. Public of the Billyground region are now alleging that as DDT has not been sprayed this year in the region, they are facing this mosquito menace.
Earthquake of 5.2 magnitude hits North Andaman region

Port Blair, July 04: An earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale today rocked the North Andaman region, according to the India Meteorological Department.
There was no immediate report of any damage or casualty but the quake has been felt very strongly by people of Diglipur and Mayabunder region.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department, the quake occurred at 12.42 hrs at 10 km dept and the epicenter was 13.2°N in Latitude – 92.6°E Longitude.
Man dupes shopkeeper at Diglipur; vanishes with Several Lakhs

Diglipur, Jul 02: A Chennai resident has reportedly duped a shopkeeper who running a wholesale shop (Grocery) at Diglipur and fled away with lakhs of rupees. As per the reports a person namely K Nagarajan R/o Thiruvattiur at Chennai bearing Aadhar card No 754272964702 and Phone No 8900971317 came to Diglipur with a reference of common friend and stayed at Selvam Store near RGT Temple Diglipur.
In the mean time the person got well-acquainted with all the works of the shop. He also used to go for wholesale business deals, with the four wheelers. The Proprietor of the Selvam Store Mr NM Selvam went to mainland from 12-18 June, after handing over the business to that person.
As soon as the Selvam came back from mainland Nagaragan wanted to go Port Blair in the pretext of visiting a friend at Port Blair. Mr. Selvam reportedly gave him Rs 5000/- and also asked to collect two lakhs rupees from a shop at Mohanpura Port Blair on his behalf and also to bring some shop items on 23rd June.
The accused reportedly collected the money on 25 Jun at 0730 pm and fled away next day morning. Mr. Selvam believes that he probably collected lakhs of rupees from retail shops of Diglipur also in name of Selvam Stores, when he was away. Meanwhile, a case has been filed at PS Diglipur and further investigations are on, in this regard.
