Parangara, Nov 1: DEO Diglipur Smti Sangeeta Chand yesterday morning inaugurated a Reverse Osmosis Plant (RO) at Government Secondary School at Parangara, which was donated by Ms. Asha Devi, who is a PST teacher of the same school. DEO also inaugurated a vermin-compost in the school premises which was built in assistance with APWD.
Later on yesterday Mr. Awanish Kumar IAS, Deputy Commissioner, N & M Andaman also visited and inspected the school campus and appreciated the efforts taken up by the school authorities for installing vermin-compost, RO plant and also for introducing ‘BALA’ (Building as a learning aid).
MGG College Celebrates National Unity Day

Port Blair, Nov 02: MGG College Mayabunder celebrated National Unity Day on the Birth anniversary of Sarder Vallabhbhai Patel. On the occassion Dr. B.Prabhuram, principal MGGC garlanded on the portrait of Vallabhbhai Patel followed by lightening the lamp. Besides these a skit was staged by the students on corruption. Thereafter a seminar was also conducted on the life of Sarder Patel. Dr. P K Mandal, Dr RVR Murthy, Dr. Anita Narendran Pillai highlighted on the different aspects of the life of Sarder Patel. Dr. MANDAL very specifically highlighted on the unknown parts of sardarjis life and how he became Iron man of India. Dr. B.Prabhuram also focused on the life of Patel. The program was concluded with vote of thanks passed by Smt. Sibani Rajbhusan.
Private Bus conductor found dead

Diglipur, Oct 31: The bus conductor of Private ATR bus Anand was found dead early this morning near the bus garage.
Mr. Sajay Bara (39) R/o Betapur was working as a conductor in Anand Bus since last 3 years. He was found lying in front of the garage where they used to stay. The Police registered a case of unnatural death and investigating the matter further.
Meanwhile the postmortem was done and body was handed over to the relatives.
Both the Anand buses to Port Blair at 5 and 7 am were detained today for inquiry by the police.
Due to this the passengers to Port Blair were unable to travel to Port Blair. The bus authorities sent the passengers in night bus, it is learnt.

111th Thevar Guru Puja Celebration at Diglipur

Diglipur, Oct 30: The 111th Thevar Guru Puja festival was celebrated on 30th Oct, 2017 at Diglipur. The Birth and Death Anniversary of Late Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar was celebrated in a befitting manner at Mukkulothor Sangam building at V.S.Palli, Diglipur.
In the morning Pongal offering was held after that Garlanding was carried out to Subhash Chandra Bose statue at Children’s park. At 11 AM Milk pot procession carried out from Sri. Mariamman Temple at VS Palli followed by Milk Abhishegam.
After flag hoisting Children’s Cultural programme was held at venue. Later Annadhanam was offered to all the devotees in the afternoon. Devotees from various parts of N & M Andaman participated in this programme.
Workshop on Skill Development organized by Education Dept. at Diglipur
Diglipur, Oct 30: A 5 days workshop from Oct 30 to Nov 3 of skill development program for children with special needs students organized at Diglipur today at Multipurpose hall.
The programme started with lightening of the lamp by Chief Guest Mr. P C Tikait Ex DEO Diglipur and along with DEO Diglipur Mrs. Sangeeta Chand and other guests. DEO welcomed the students, parents and guests. Speaking on this occasion said that this is a first initiative of the Dept of Education in Diglipur zone with the support of the Dept of Industries which will enable the special needs students to explore their internal skill potentials. Similar programmes will be organized on other areas depending on the success of this programme she added.
During these 5 days workshop teachers of Arts, Music, dance and staff of Dept of Industries will provide training for soft toys making, cutting, computer training, and embroidery etc which will benefit in the self employment in the future. On the last day the output of the programme will be displayed. Mr. Pinaki Bhattacharya attached to GSSS Diglipur coordinated this programme.

Diglipur, Oct 30: To commemorate the 150th Birth Annivarsary of Mahatma Gandhi, GSSS Diglipur today organized a cycle rally at Diglipur. The rally was carried out from Madhupur junction to GSSS Diglipur. Around 120 girls and boys participated in this rally. About 120 saplings were also planted around school premises
Vice Principal Mr. R K Pandey and Mr. Shibu George (Programme Officer at All India Radio (Guest of Honour) flagged off the event. General public encouraged the students by clapping at the roadside. Students raised slogans carrying placards for the awareness of the cleanliness.
Road-Block at Diglipur by BJP; Demanding for Proper BSNL network

Subhashgram, Oct 26: The BJP unit of Diglipur today staged dharna and blocked road at Diglipur bazaar protesting against the bad network of BSNL in the region. People were surprised to see BJP workers on protest for Network, at the time, when BJP is ruling in Country and also in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The Roadblock was held from 9 AM to 12PM and Shops were mostly closed during this period. PBMC Chairperson Mrs. Anushya Devi, Councillor Mr. L Murti, State Vice President BJP Mrs. D C Aruna Giri came by helicopter from Port Blair and joined the dharna.
Speaking on this occasion Mrs. Anusula Devi who reached to attend this dharna by helicopter said that PM Modi provided thousands of Crores for the development of the Islands but the authorities are not utilizing it.
The majority of Islands services depend upon BSNL internet, the BJP party written many letters to the authorities and administration but there is no improvement, so we are agitating on the roads, she said.
Chairperson threatened that if the problem is not solved immediately more serious actions will be taken by the BJP party. She claimed that BJP party has come on the streets as the opposition party is sleeping. The CSC centres online employments forms, GST data and call network is badly affected due to congestion of network in this region.
BJP leaders thanked the administration and police department for the support of this dharna. A large number of police forces were deployed on the spot. At about 12 PM the Asst Commissioner Diglipur Mr. Alok Kumar, SDO BSNL Mr. Ravi reached the spot who sought a moratorium for the technical reasons for 20 days for network improvement. After this explanation, the Road-block called off.
3 year old boy, Grandmother suffer Electrocution; Public alleges mismanagement of Electricity Department

Billyground, Oct 25: A three year old baby boy and his grandmother miraculously survived electrocution at Duke Nagar village of Lauki Nallah area of Middle of Andaman.
According to reports, on 23rd October 11 AM, a 3 year old baby boy was playing outside his house when he saw an electric cable lying on the ground, out of curiosity the 3 year old boy touched the cable, which was live, and he suffered electrocution.
Hearing some sound, when grandmother of the boy reached near the boy, she saw that the boy has suffered electrocution. To save the little boy the grandmother also touched the electric cable and she also suffered electrocution.
Thankfully other family members reached on time and rescued both of them.
Both the victims were immediately rushed to PHC Billiground, where after medical treatment by evening both were declared out of danger.
Meanwhile public and Pradhan of Swadesh Nagar Gram Panchayat expressed their anger against Electricity Department, especially the Junior Engineer and the Lineman of the region, as even after complaining many times about poor condition of the electric lines, in the area, the lines neither repaired not replaced, which ultimately lead to this accident, villagers alleged.
People were also angry on the Executive Engineer of the region, as the EE could reach the PHC Billiground only at 5:30 pm, nearly six hours after the major incident.
The fuming villagers reportedly met the EE at PHC Billyground and demand transfer of the JE. The EE reportedly assured to look into this matter.
STS to start night bus service on ATR

Diglipur the State Transport Service is going to start night bus
service in Diglipur – Port Blair route from 29th Oct 2018. The expected schedule of the bus service will be – on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays the bus will proceed to Diglipur at 12 pm from Port Blair and will reach Diglipur at 10 am on the same day and onTuesday, Thursday and Saturdays the Bus will proceed to Port Blair fromDiglipur at 11 PM and will reach next day morning at 0930 am at Port Blair.
