Diglipur, Dec 23: The Director of Social Welfare in collaboration with ALIMCO, Kolkata has organized an assessment camp for Divyangjan and Senior Citizens from 9 AM to 4 PM on 21 Dec at Community hall, Gram Panchayat Subhashgram. During the camp assessment was done by the Medical Officer, CHC Diglipur and officials from ALIMCO, Kolkata for providing Aids and Assisted devices for Divyangjan and Senior citizens. Altogether 136 Nos people attended the camp, out of which 105 Divyangjan have been selected for providing Wheel Chair , hearing aids, walking stick and tripod.
Rice Beer recovered from Kalighat

Kalighat, Dec 19: A Police team of PS Kalighat on a tip-off recovered 10 kg Rice Beer (Handia) from Sumitra Toppo (40) W/o Sukhram Toppo R/o Ramnagar. As per reports, the illegal business was run by the lady from an agriculture land. After receiving information, the Police team rushed to Ramnagar village, which falls under PS Kalighat, and arrested the lady. A case has been registered in this regard.
Dead Whale washes ashore at Diglipur

Smith Island, Diglipur, Dec 19: A dead whale washed ashore in Smith Island beach at Diglipur, was spotted today.
The 5.25 metre long, nearly 800 kg in weight, Beaked Whale was sighted by the staff of forest department, who is posted at Ross & Smith Island to look after the beach. Soon the matter was informed to the wildlife Division at Mayabunder. Immediately Team lead by Forest Ranger (wildlife) K P Abdul Rasheed, Wildlife Foresters, A Muhsin and B C Biswas alongwith Veterinary department staff Shankar & Salam reached the spot.
Due to the whale’s location, behind the sea wall, on a rocky shore, it was very difficult to bring heavy equipments, needed to remove such a large animal from the beach. Hence the team anyhow brought the Whale to sandy shore by using locally available tree trunks and ropes. After Post Mortem the team buried the Whale at the beach, as soon as the tide receded.
There are about 20 different species of beaked whales in the world’s oceans. Their key distinguishing feature is the presence of a ‘beak’, somewhat similar to that of most dolphin species. The team after confirming the identity with mainland division declared it as a Female Beaked Whale.
KHEP Green Power reaching upto Tugapur from Diglipur

Nabagram, Dec 14: The Kalpong Hydro Electricity Power Project (KHEP) at Nabagram village, Diglipur is the lone green power project since Nov 2001, is now feeding power upto Tugapur Via Mayabunder from last three months. The 138 metre high dam is currently overflowing since last few days.
Executive Engineeer Mr. A Hamza said that Since May-June the department is producing about 4.4MW power and feeding upto Tugapur including all Diglipur, when demand and supply are available. Since May Presently all the 3 turbines are operating and producing power as there is surplus water in catchment area due to rains. Thus there is no load shedding implementing in this region apart from technical line faults or transmitting faults.
In the month of Oct alone about 1.89 Million Units of power was produced which saved 5,48,000 Litres diesel amounting about 3.07 Crores to the Islands. With no leakage of water, the Hydro Electric Power Project at Kalpong in currently offering 95.4% efficiency, the EE informed.
The green power will be available upto February only as after summer season starts and the water lever goes down. Then the diesel power needs to be fed from Rangat Power house. The decades old Sitanagar power house should be revamped, as the defence establishments’ and Shibpur Airport’s needs are increasing fast, the EE said.
Islanders witness Strike by DRMs of STS on the call of GMTDU

Diglipur, Dec 14: To press their demands the DRM workers of State Transport Service including drivers, conductors and mechanical staffs organized strike all over Andaman and Nicobar Islands on the call of Govt. Motor Transport Drivers’ Union (GMTDU).
The strike started since 04:30 am and was withdrawn at 6 pm after assurances from union leaders from Port Blair that the files are at Secretariat level and authorities perusing the matter further. A another matter is pending and listed in CAT on 17th Dec.
At Diglipur, only 3 buses were operated on the road in local areas apart from this one bus each from Mayabunder, Rangat & Baratang reached Diglipur with passengers and back. About 45 workers participated in this strike peacefully. Similar reports of peaceful conduct of strike by members of GMTDU is coming from other Islands like Rangat, Baratang and Campbell Bay.
N & M Administration gearing up for PM’s probable visit to Diglipur

Diglipur, Dec 12: All of a sudden the District Administration at N & M Andaman today organized a meeting of HODs at administrative building at Diglipur to review the PMs Probable visit and meeting at Diglipur.
As per the sources, the meeting is scheduled for 15 minutes at Diglipur’s Vivekananda Stadium. The work for erecting a stage has already started at Vivekananda Stadium, Diglipur.
The Deputy Commissioner and the Assistant Commissioner along with revenue officials, HODs of various departments inspected the helipad, stadium and various other buildings.
The repair of road to Helipad has also started in full swing, which is continuing day and night.
Meanwhile the BJP leaders consisting Member of Parliament,Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, BJP President, Mr. Vishal Jolly, ZP Adhyaksh N & M Andaman, Mr. P.Srinivas Rao, PBMC Chairperson,Mrs. Anusuya Devi, BJP Vice President, Mr. N Murthy and others met Prime Minister of India Mr. Narendra Modi and discussed various issues.
Diglipur Police Arrests One Drug Peddler
Diglipur, Dec 12: On 07/12/2018 acting upon a credible information regarding Illicit Ganja the Police team of PS Diglipur comprising of Insp. Mahesh Yadav SHO PS Diglipur, HC/19 Ramesh Kishen, PC/673 D Satya Narayan, PC/1316 Akash Ch. Bepari, & PC/2692 Rita Kumari headed by Dy. SP, Diglipur Mr. Sukant S. Ballab rushed to Subash gram, Krishnapuri Road and searched one person namely Ramkrishna Podder S/o Late Kalidas Podder (42) Yrs R/o Madhupur-II and recovered 260 grams of illicit Ganja from his possession and accordingly he was arrested under NDPS Act 1985. The drug peddler used to sale illicit Ganja to teenagers and other habitual local person. He was also booked under NDPS Act 1985 in earlier instance, and an FIR was also registered vide No. 64/16 dtd 21/07/16 against him. The whole operation was supervised by Mr. Ingit Pratap Singh, IPS SP (N&M) District, Mayabunder. The District Police is committed to completely eradicate drug trafficking from this district as it create ill effect over society.

Zonal Level Science Art and Craft Exhibition at GSSS Rangat
Rangat, Dec 11: Zonal Level Science Art and Craft Exhibition under Rangat Educational Zone organized by Deputy Education Office on 11th December 2018 at GSSS Rangat. Mr. Gyan Sheel Dubey Deputy Education Officer was the Chief Guest, inaugurated the Exhibition by lighting the traditional lamp with Mr. Lochan Singh vice Principal GSSS Sabari Junction who was the Guest of Honor. The Chief Guest was much inspired with some of the outstanding exhibits presented by school children and also he delivered inspirational speech to improve their innovative skills in the field of Science and Art. School students under Rangat Educational Zone were also interestedly came to look at the Exhibit items.
Turtle nesting: Administration issues advisory

Diglipur, Dec 7: In view of the Turtle season the N & M Andaman Administration, issued a advisory to the general public to not to venture for fishing in the areas of Ross Island (WL)Sanctuary, Kalipur Beach, Lamia Bay Beach, Ramnagar Beach, Elizebeth Bay and Nargul Dunga at Diglipur.
In these areas every year four species of Turtles visits N &M Andaman beaches during the nesting season from November to Match. As a part of seasonal phenomenon a large number of turtles are expected to visit beaches for nesting during this season. The Sea grass beds adjacent to nesting sites are used by the sea turtles for nesting and breeding and thus fishing in the areas of these sites may cause disturbance and thus fishing in the nearby areas of these nesting sites may cause disturbance to the turtles.
In order to prevent damages to the turtle habitats all fishermen and general public are directed to not to venture for fishing in these areas from Nov to March.
District Health Society urged the general public to refrain feeding Pigeon

Diglipur, Dec 7: The State Health Society, A & N Islands and N & M Andaman administration urged the general public to refrain from the habit of feeding Pigeon available within close proximity in order to prevent disease of Hypersensitivity Pneumonitis which is one of the forms of Pulmonary Fibrosis, caused by Pigeons. Hypersensitivity Pneumonitis Bird Fancier’s Lung is an inflammatory Lung condition caused by bird droppings that are highly allergenic.
Doctors advice that avoiding exposure to pigeon droppings is key to curing Hypersensitivity Pneumonitis. Those exposed to the fecal matter should use N95 masks.
