Frequent BSNL OFC cut in Middle Andaman; District Administration clueless
Staff Correspondent
Rangat, Feb 13: It seems that the District Administration of North and Middle Andaman is not even existing. The Middle Andaman region is suffering heavily due to frequent BSNL OFC cut by contractors of NHIDCL, which is leading to total and frequent blackout of Internet services in the region.
In Bakultala and nearby areas in last one month there has been nearly dozens of such incidents but no clear directions has come from the North and Middle Andaman District Administration yet, to check such irresponsible road digging works.
In past, in South Andaman region whenever there had been any problem with ATR resurfacing and up-gradation works, the DC South Andaman had intervened himself and organised meetings between NHIDCL officials and concerned authorities /panchayat members but sadly in North and Middle Andaman such promptness is missing.
In earlier editions also Andaman Sheekha, Daily had reported about such irresponsible road digging works but sadly situation has not improved even today.
At present due to one such irresponsible road digging work near Bakultala, the OFC cable of BSNL has again suffered damages, which has disrupted broadband services from Bakultala to Baratang region of Middle Andaman.
Officials of BSNL, who do not want their names to be quoted, told Andaman Sheekha that most of the time roads digging works are carried out in odd hours when ATR traffic is less. If the District Administration issues directions to NHIDCL and concerned contractors for carrying out such works only in presence of BSNL employees then such OFC cut incidents can be avoided 100 percent.
The solution to this massive problem is simple but it seems no one from North and Middle Andaman District Administration cares about it. The PRI members of Baratang are hopeful that atleast the Chief Secretary will find some time to look into this matter because such incidents are brining bagful of problems for business owners, students and job aspirants of Middle Andaman region. Due to disruption of BSNL network the DC North and Middle Andaman could not be contacted today for a comment in this regard.
