Volunteers found misusing the vehicle during the lockdown; PRI registers complaint to DC North and Middle Andaman

Mayabunder, April 09: A PRI representative of North and Middle Andaman has recently registered a complaint to the District Commissioner, North and Middle Andaman that several volunteers who have been permitted to work for the welfare of the people during the lockdown are misusing their vehicles for various other purposes.
As per reports, after receiving the complaint the DC, North and Middle Andaman gave immediate instructions to the Superintendent of Police North and Middle Andaman to take strict action against the violators.
Andaman Sheekha has learned that recently the SP, North and Middle Andaman has replied to the DC in written saying that some cases of this kind have come into his notice and vehicles of those violators have been seized.
The SP further stated that strict action will be taken if the violators have been noticed again violating the rules.
The SP has also suggested in his letter that the PRIs must keep a close watch on the volunteers if they are misusing their vehicles.
Packets containing Essential Commodities distributed among Widows of Billyground region

Port Blair, Apr 07: Today early in the morning Mr. Deven Roy, SHO,PS Billy ground and Dr. PK Mandal, Correspondent, Andaman Sheekha decided to distribute essential commodities to the needy widows of the area.
Immediately with their personal efforts they purchased some essential commodities to distribute among widows of the area.
Latter they urged the grocery shop owners to help them. Most of the grocery shop owners expressed their happiness and extended their support. One Advocate Mr. Arabina Nandi also extended his support in this noble gesture.
Shri Bala Murugan VPS, Rao Store and other grocery shop owners also extended great support to the team.
In the forenoon, the team have distributed essential commodities to 35 widows with packets containing essential commodities containing 5kg Rice, 1 ltr oil, 1 kg Daal, 1 kg Potato 1 kg Onion, 1pkt Chilly powder, 1 pkt Haldi powder, 1kg Salt, Tooth brush & Toothpaste, biscuits and 1kg sugar, worth Rs. 1000 each packet. In the evening the distributed more 15 packets among widows in the area.
DC North and Middle Andaman sounds caution to construction workers to remain indoors

Mayabunder, April 03: Andaman Sheekha recently received several complaints from the people of Middle Andaman and has pictures as well that in some places road construction works are still in operation in Middle Andaman region and many laborers are engaged in it.
Taking the matter seriously, Andaman Sheekha highlighted the matter to the District Commissioner, North and Middle Andaman, Mr. Awanish Kumar following which he immediately instructed his subordinates to do a ground check on the issue.
However, as per the Deputy Commissioner no such case was found during the check this morning. The DC of North and Middle Andaman has now sounded caution to the construction workers for not indulging in any work construction works and to remain indoors, till the lockdown is in progress.
North and Middle Andaman District Administrations sets up Relief Shelter

Port Blair, Apr 02: The Deputy Commissioner of North and Middle Andaman today informed that a Relief Shelter/Camp has been set up at Govt. Model Sr. Secondary School at Pokkadera, Mayabunder from today to provide food, shelter, and basic health facilities to everyone in need.
“Stranded person, migrant or casual labourers, poor or person from vulnerable sections, those residing in encroachment pockets, who do not have access to basis amenities can come here. Please inform about any such person to the district administration. We will arrange to pick them from all the corners of the district and transport them to the relief shelter where they will be checked medically before entering. All facilities to the inmates shall be ensured by the district administration,” a communication said here today.
Mr. Ajit Singh, Inspector, DRCS Mayabunder shall be the in charge of the Relief Camp.
“It is again requested to the general public not to come out of your homes for no reason. District administration is vigilant and committed to ensure safety, security and welfare of the general public,” the communication added.
Residents of Kadamtala suffer badly as many Landline and Broadband connections remain un- operational since last four months

Kadamtala, March 19: The residents of Kadmatala are in a troublesome situation now after many BSNL landline and Broadband connections are un-operational since last four months.
As per the youths of the area, they are unable to fill any online applications for Central Government vacancies due to the issue,
“We hoped that the authorities will take a call immediately to repair the BSNL lines after it got damaged due to the bridge construction work in the area but it didn’t happen and it is four months now,” complained a youth of Kadamtala.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha, Mr. Sampad Kumar Roy, the Ex- Pradhan of Kadamtala Gram Panchayat said that if at all the BSNL staffs want they can repair the lines at least that much that the people can manage the show but they have not taken any steps in this regard and just blaming the NHIDCL authorities for the issue.
Mr. Roy further said that as the BSNL is not under operation in their area people are facing enormous issues and requested the administration to interfere in the matter.
Geetanjali night bus falls in roadside pit

Mayabunder, Mar 17: The bus of Geetanjali night service met with an accident yesterday at around midnight while coming from North Andaman to Port Blair. According to reports the bus went off the road and fell into a road side pit at Austin II area, leaving nearly five passengers injured. The accident took place at around 12.15 AM. The reason behind the accident is still not known.
KVK N & M Andaman Celebrated International Women’s Day

On the occasion Mrs. Aegnis Barthelona, SI, A & N Police; Mrs. Bimla Suthar, Member, Zila Parishad; Mrs. Aarti Mondal, Samiti Member; Mr. Uttam Mondal, Pradhan, Harinagar; Smt. Silavanti Kujur, Ex pradhan Swadeshnagar; BDO, Mayabunder Tehsil; Sarpanch; PRI members, Dr. B. L. Kasinath, Head, KVK, N & M Andaman and KVK staff were present. The programme started with women’s rally in the Billiground Market to showcase the unity and strength of women folks. The function was inaugurated by the chief guest Smt. Aegnis Barthelona. In her inaugural address Smt. Barthelona expressed happiness to be honoured as the chief guest on the occasion of “International Women’s day”. She shared her working experiences in the police department and issues related to the women’s. She informed the participants that there are enough provision in the law to safeguard the rights of a women, the need of the time is to educate the girl child so that she can understand her rights and responsibilities. On the Occasion, Dr. B. L. Kasinath greeted all the women on international women day. Dr. Kasinath highlighted the achievements of women in various field particularly the contribution of women in agriculture and allied sector. In the programme, all the dignitaries shared their views on the occasion of international womens day. During the programme, Smt. Manjushree and associates also organised a cultural programme for the women’s. International Women’s Day at Harinagar Gram Panchayat

Billyground, Mar 08: In connection the celebration of International Women’s Day Harinagar Gram panchayat today organised a special Gram Saba meeting. The day began with rally at Billyground bazar with slogan “Empower the women and respect the women, women realize your strengths”.
After completion the rally women staged beautiful cultural programme, self-composed poems and delivered inspirational speeches and they also stressed on the participation of women in politics to check corruption.
Besides this some women social workers were also honored keeping in view their endeavour to uplift and aware the weaker sections of the society. On this occasion Miss Egnus Bartholm,SI, officer of Child and women welfare. PS Billyground was the chief guest, she delivered speech on the importance of the day.
On the other hand district administration also celebrated this day at its HQ at Mayabunder. On the occasion DC spoke on the women empowerment and welfare of the district.
Heavy dust over ATR in North Middle region, DC Assures early measures to reduce Dust Pollution

Mayabunder: Heavy dust pollution is making life Andaman Trunk Road commuters and residents of North and Middle Andaman difficult. Now the Deputy Commissioner of N&M Andaman has assured that the dust pollution will be brought under control at the earliest.
Due to the ATR upgradation works in the region, dust pollution has made it difficult, especially for the students to reach to their respective schools from home.
Several complaints were registered to the authorities by the parents that their wards are facing breathing difficulties due to the heavy dust pollution in the region.
The residents also called a protest few months back to attract the attention of the authorities on this issue.
“We are not against development but it must be done in a time bound manner, we are ready to support to the extent we can but it shouldn’t start troubling children,” said Mr. Ganesh, a resident of Middle Andaman said.
Meanwhile, Mr. Awanish Kumar, DC, North and Middle Andaman, who is aware about the issue told Andaman Sheekha that Andaman and Nicobar Administration is very serious and sensitive in this issue and to bring an end to the problem, recently a meeting was held between authorities of NHIDCL and some contractors of NHIDCL have been imposed with heavy penalty for delaying the work.
We have directed to complete the WBM work of road in all the portion of the road where earthwork has already been completed within 31st of March 2020,” said the DC. The DC finally assured the public that by 31st March 2020 the condition will improve.
