Inspection report of New OPD block of Billyground PHC submitted to DC North and Middle; Many modifications suggested by the inspection committee

Billyground, June 07: On 02nd June 2020, finding that the new OPD building of PHC Billyground has not been handed over yet to the PHC, the District Commissioner North and Middle Andaman, Mr. Awanish Kumar immediately constituted a team for conducting a joint inspection of the new OPD building of PHC Billyground, with the intention that, required modification as per the doctors can be done and handing over of the building happens right away to the medical department for operations.

On instructions, a joint inspection was conducted on 03.06.2020 at 10 AM in the presence of concerned Doctors, Patwari (Billyground), Dr. PK Mondal, and Junior Engineers (E&M, Civil).

During the inspection, the concerned Doctors have demanded few modifications/ alterations in the building which was not included in the main drawing during the approval by the client department.

Modifications/ alterations proposed by the medical department are, constructing one small water tank for developing the X-Ray films with 03 chambers along with 03 number BIB cocks and dark film covering in the window glass pans for darkness in the darkroom.

The doctors also demaned 03 numbers surgeon type wash basin with elbow operated BIB cocks at X-Ray room, Antenatal Room, Dressing Room.

The doctors’s team also requested 02 numbers of washbasin at Ayush Pharmacy (First Floor) and Pharmacy with dispensary (Ground Floor).

The doctors requested replacement of the recovery room into a changing room with the requirement of cement concrete hand wash chambers of larger depth with elbow operated two numbers BIB cocks and provision of one number aluminum door through the existing hollow block walling to access into the OT room from the changing room at first floor. The team also suggested modification to be done in the lobby area with aluminum panel partitions and door for setting the recovery room after its replacement into the changing room.

With the inputs given by the doctors a proper inspection report with suggestion has been prepared and sent by the inspection committee to the DC North and Middle for further necessary action.

Strict Rule at Wine Shop of Rangat to stop black-marketing

Rangat, May 24: Following complaints about black-marketing of liquor at Rangat area by some people, who are purchasing liquor from Rangat Wine Shop multiple times, a new rule has been imposed at Rangat Wine shop since Saturday. As per reports now all people will have to show their AADHAR card at Wine Shop Counter and also ink marking will be made on the finger of liquor purchaser, so that one person can’t buy liquor multiple times.
Public of Rangat area told Andaman Sheekha that although these measures, by AC office, are good against black-marketing of liquor but marking ink on the finger of liquor purchaser is a very rude step.

POCSO Case; 27 year old youth arrested from Diglipur

Port Blair, May 15: A 27 year old youth of Digipur region has been arrested by PS Diglipur for attempting to molest a minor girl of the region. As per reports the boy had entered inside the hut of the girl finding an opportunity to attempt the molestation. Later based on a complaint a POCSO case was registered at PS Diglipur and the accused was immediately arrested yesterday and today he was produced before the Hon’ble court.

Warm Welcome accorded to passengers reaching Campbell Bay

Port Blair, May 14: The vessel MV Coral Queen reached the port of Campbell Bay with the batch of passengers, who were stranded in Port Blair for a long time due to sudden Lockdown.

These passengers faced difficult times in Port Blair due to lock down and were forced to stay in lodges, hotels and other places with limited resources. The local Administration of Great Nicobar today welcomed the passengers by showering flower petals. The members of Youth Congress in Great Nicobar had parked their bikes near Jetty with placards thanking crew members of Coral Queen for their service towards the Islands.

DC North and Middle makes surprise visit at Rangat

Port Blair, May 10: Mr. Awanish Kumar, the Deputy Commissioner, DC N& M Andaman made surprising visit from Mayabunder to Rangat yesterday evening hours to understand the ground level realities during the crisis period.
During the visit the DC was briefed about the law and order situation and observance of SOP by the SHO Billyground Police Station.
Besides this, he personally inspected sweet stalls and strictly advised people to follow the social distancing norms and cautioned that if any unhygienic condition is found in any stalls, strict action shall be initiated against the owner.
He also directed to the Patwary to make strict vigil in all sweet stalls and shops so that no one can violate the law.
On receipt a complaint from patwary that a shopkeeper of Swadesh Nagar is not following norms of SOP, DC directed the Patwary to seal that shop and to initiate proper action against said owner.

14-year-old girl impregnated; Accused arrested

Billyground, May 10: A 14-year-old girl has been found to be pregnant by two months.
As per reports, the girl came to the PHC Billyground for treatment during which it was found that she is pregnant by two months by the Doctors.
The girl being a minor, the doctors immediately reported the matter to the Police following which the SHO Deben Kumar Roy along with Sub- Inspector Egnous Bartholma reached the PHC Billyground and after interrogation, the girl disclosed that a boy of Lauki Nallah provoked and promised her to marry following which he in March, established sexual relation with her. The police team rushed to Lauki Nallah village and arrested the accused.

Mayabunder, April 05: The District Commissioner, North and Middle Andaman, Mr. Awanish Kumar’s style of managing the administrative chores and handling each and every query himself during the time of lockdown has been highly appreciated by the residents of North and Middle Andaman.
Responding softly to seldom criticism of people on various social media platforms was another major reason that people turned out to start following the instructions of the DC, North, and Middle, in this fight against COVID19 virus.
Not only this, Mr. Awanish Kumar also responded to every call he received whether it was of a politician, administrative staff, or let it be the general public of the region and solved their queries resulting in creating trust in the administration.
The simplicity, behavior, and determination shown by the IAS in his approach towards the people is outstanding, public of North and Middle Andaman told Andaman Sheekha.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha, Mr. Dipankar Mistry, Adhyaksh, North and Middle Andaman Zilla Parishad said that it’s a great luck for people of North and Middle to have a DC like Mr. Awanish Kumar as each and every problem that arose during the lockdown, was tackled very professionally by him.

DySP Rangat pats on the back of all his subordinates for outstanding service during the lockdown

Rangat, April 30: The outstanding service during the time of the lockdown shown by the police personnel of Rangat Jurisdiction has ‘lifted up Deputy Superintendent’s head’ with pride.

 

Talking to Andaman Sheekha recently, the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Rangat Subdivision Mr. R. K. Sharma said that from day one of the lockdown, his subordinates tirelessly worked hard to inform the public about Social Distancing as well as they served day and night to maintain law and order.

 

“Wherever necessary the police personnel without any fear took stringent action, the penalty was imposed against all street roamers, who tried to break the rule,” said Mr. Sharma.

 

DySP Sharma also said that the Police Unit under his jurisdiction has collected around Rs 27,300 by penalizing 200 violators.

 

Mr. Sharma further lauded the efforts Sub Inspector S.K.Debnath of Betapur Police Outpost for discharging his outstanding humanitarian services by shouldering a dead body of a poor villager of Panchwati area to handover to deceased family and in another case, SI Debnath himself paddled a wooden dinghy to bring serious cancer patients from Dhaninallah Dispensary.

 

“Such an outstanding job wouldn’t have been possible without the support of the people and the administration under his jurisdiction, hence, I also appreciate them for co-operating nicely with the police,” said DySP Sharma.

Essential Commodities distributed to needy families of Long Island

Mayabunder, April 28: With efforts of all the members of the North and Middle Andaman Zilla Parishad today, essential commodities were distributed to 100 poor families of Long Island.

Apart from this, essential materials were also distributed to 50 poor families of remote Chainpur Gram Panchayat under Mayabandar Tehsil.

The Zilla Parishad Adhyaksh, North and Middle Andaman, Mr. Dipankar Mistry said that all the Zilla Parishad members of the district were asked to prepare a list of poor people of the area, so that help could reach them during the lockdown.

Supported families of Long Island and Chainpur Panchayat thanked members of North and Middle Andaman Zilla Parishad for the help extended to them.

ANDAMAN SHEEKHA IMPACT: Big relief for the Guest Lecturers of MGGC after instructions given to release the payment for March

Mayabunder, April 26: Andaman Sheekha recently carried news highlighting problems faced by Guest Lecturers of Mahatma Gandhi Government College Mayabunder for deduction on their salary for the period of lockdown, however, the matter was taken up promptly by the administration and now instructions have been issued to the College authorities to release the salary for the overall March month bringing big relief for the Guest lecturers.
As per reports, the Principal MGGC has received instructions in this regard following which he has instructed the Account sections of the college to prepare the bills for payment to Guest Lecturers from 20th March to 31st March 2020 also.
However, it’s a big relief for the Guest Lecturers but they are still unhappy as some days have been deducted from the payment of March 2020 which are 17th, 18th and 19th.
As per the Guest Lecturers, all the colleges coming under the Andaman administration have given full salary to their Guest Lecturers and excluded only Sundays, but here, the MGGC college has applied it only on the days of the lockdown which starts from 20th March.
When Andaman Sheekha contacted the Principal, MGGC, Dr. Prabhuram, he said that as per the Lt Governor’s instruction the shut down order to the college was given from 16th March 2020, but though some Guest Lecturers served on the same day, hence, he gave the requisition for those till 16th March 2020, which has already been disbursed.
“The Guest Lecturers has not served for 17th, 18th and 19th March and hence, those days has been deducted from their salaries and since 20th March 2020 the lockdown was ordered by the Andaman administration on papers and Guest Lecturers were told to work from home from 20th March 2020, therefore, the salaries will be paid to them from 20th March 2020,” the Principal said.
This decision of the Principal has however made some Guest Lecturers upset, who claim that the Principal favours their Guest Lecturers who are in his good books following which he releases pay to those till 16th March 2020 and others who are not in his good books were paid only till 13th March 2020.
