Namita Mondal Zilla Parishad Member, Subhash gram Constituency.

Speaking on the occasion the Chief Executive Officer, Zilla Parishad Dr. Vivek Kumar said that this is indeed a fulfilment of long pending need of this school.

Diglipur, Sep 24: A Community hall at Subhash gram, Diglipur wasvinaugurated today by Mr. P Prasad Adyaksh , Zilla parishad, N & M Andaman.

Speaking on the occasion Mr PR Singaram ,Pradhan , Subhash gram, Diglipur said that the land to construct the community hall was Donated by Radha Govind Temple committee and we pay gratitude to them “This construction was completed in record three years. This three years of hardship protected by making a retaining wall between the Kalpong river and Hall as that part for the moment was getting tough,”. Mr Singaram added.

The inauguration of the community hall is held in the presence of Dr. Vivek Kumar Chief Executive Officer, Zilla Parishad, N & M Andaman, Zilla Parishad Member Smti. Namita Mondal, ZP member Mr Anil Mondal , ZP member Kalighat, Mr Senapati , ZP member Smti Neelima Samaddar, Nimbutala ZP member Smti. Panchavrnam, ZP member Sabari,Long Island ZP Member Diglipur Smti. Mayabunder, Sept 21: A group of villagers from Deopur and Latao villages of Mayabunder Tehsil on Thursday met the Deputy Commissioner of North and Middle Andaman and complained about water crisis in their villages.

Talking to Andaman Sheekha villagers said that since last 7-8 days people of these two villages are not getting water through pipe lines.

According to reports the pipelines of the area had suffered heavy damage due to heavy rainfall, which troubled these areas nearly 8-9 days back.

“We took up the matter with Zilla Parishad and APWD several times but no one bother about us. One of the AEs told us that as they don’t have sufficient instruments and equipments to repair the pipelines, they are unable to do anything. Should this be a reply of APWD?” said an angry villager.

However, it is learnt that the DC of N & M Andaman has assured the villagers to look into the matter.

Engineers from all the Department & Private Engineers from Rangat to Diglipur participated in the calebration. Mr. K.M Mathai, Executive engineer, member IEI welcomed and felicitated the Chief Guest and explained about the importance of this day. Diglipur, Sep 17: An Self help group namely ‘Kusum Vatika’ has set an outlet for sale of flowers along with its value added products at Diglipur which was inaugurated by Smti. Chameli Biswas,CDPO, in presence of Mr Ramesh Kumar, Assistant Director(Agri), Diglipur , Mr P.R.Singaram, Pradhan Subashgram, Manager, CCS, Diglipur on 14.09.12 at 3.30pm in the premises of CCS,Diglipur.

Speaking on the occasion Mr Ramesh Kumar said that this would encourage the farmers of Diglipur to adopt floriculture on commercial basis and to raise their own flower garden so as to avoid the inconvenience to import flowers from far-flung areas. Diglipur, Sept 16: Neglected people of Diglipur Islands has now raised their voice through DARTED, a registered body, and called for Diglipur Bandh on 25th September 2012, to protest against poor connectivity of Shipping Services.

As the Union Shipping Minister is in Port Blair, a perfectly timed Press Release of DARTED today said that their long pending demands about daily boat service to Diglipur, boat for Diglipur Via Havelock twice a week, Disembarkation of Kolkata passengers at Diglipur, have fallen into deaf ears till now. These demands were raised several occasions in past through PRI members of North Andaman region.

One of these letters was send on 24th Sep, 2011 and was repeatedly followed up but as there was no reply people and public representatives of Diglipur region are now fuming.

“The administration should understand that the passenger population from the last seven -eight years has increased nearly ten folds. But the ship schedule did not change accordingly. There are still three boats a week which has to be shared with Mayabunder passengers also. The team of DARTED*(Diglipur Association of Rural Tourism and Ecological Development) met with the Director of DSS six months back regarding this matter and urged night sailing but there were again no response,” a release from DARTED said here today.

According to reports the Bandh Called by DARTED will be supported by PRI members, business community of Diglipur Island and general public.

Port Blair, Sept 13: Some real bad news are waiting for people, living in rural areas of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, as very soon the Administration is planning to send as many as 62 medium size buses in different villages of these Islands.

People in many areas are already fuming over this issue and have been demanding bigger buses for their village but instead of listening to public, the Administration is all set to shove more 62 medium size buses down their throat, for reasons unknown.

Villagers allege that these medium size buses are unbelievably congested and there is no space between seats. Moreover there isn’t much space for people to stand inside these buses.

“These buses are good for tourism but not good for village transportation. Large number of people in remote areas travel as long as 25- 30 km in these buses with their farm equipments, luggage and other house hold stuffs, but in medium buses they can’t even stand properly,” said an angry villager of Diglipur Island.

Now the question arises why the Transport Department purchased 62 medium size buses when remote villagers do not want them.

When contacted, there was nobody in the Transport Department to give reply to these questions.

But a senior officer of the Transport Department told Andaman Sheekha that 62 medium size buses and eight long buses have already been purchased by the Administration, which will reach these Islands, soon.

However, he said that as the Director of Transport is out of station he is unable to give answer to any of the question raised by Andaman Sheekha, regarding purchase of large number of medium size buses.

Now villagers of remote islands urge the Lt. Governor to look into this matter and find out why the Administration is purchasing such buses, which would probably of no use in remote Islands. Is it because of the kick back or there are other good reasons? Now the million dollar question is whether the Lt. Governor will inquire into this matter and fix responsibility on some officers for purchasing these medium size buses, which means maximum trouble for Islanders?
