Port Blair, Mar 04: On Day 8 of DPL 3 an exciting match was witnessed between last year’s Winner STS Challengers and Runners Admin warriors. Admin warriors won the toss and elected to field first. STS Challengers made 112 runs in 20 overs losing 9 wickets. Admin warriors have achieved the target in 19.4 overs. For STS Challengers  Shri Joel  top scored with 22 runs in 14 balls and for  Admin warriors Shri Dilip was the top scorer with 34 runs of just 32 balls.

 

Port Blair, Mar 03: In Vivekananda Cup (Diglipur Premier League) on Day 6, the match was played between Medical XI and GP Sitanagar. G P Sitanagar Won the toss and selected to bat first. GPS made 135 runs in 20 overs, losing 8 wickets. Rakesh made 39 runs in 39 balls. GPS won the match by 4 wickets and 5 balls. Highest run made by Sanjay of 39 runs in 24 balls.

On day 7, in the morning match played between Udaya stars and Annu Brothers. Udaya stars won the toss and decided to bat first. In 19.2 overs they made 166 runs, losing all wickets. Gamble made highest 42 runs in 42 balls. Chasing the score Annu Brothers were all out in 121 runs. Uday stars won the match by 7 Wickets.

On day 7 second match was played between MAM and Spartans. Spartans won the toss and selected to bat first. They were all-out in 15.1 over by making 65 runs. MAM won the match by 8 wickets in 13.5 overs remaining. Sajan of MAM was not out in 12 balls and 23 runs.

Diglipur, Mar 01: In Vivekananda Cup, today’s match was played between Khudirampur Knight Riders and Thiruvalluvar Youth Club. On winning the toss Thiruvalluvar Youth Club made 116 runs in 20 Overs losing 8 wickets and chasing the score Khudirampur Knight Riders lost all the wickets and made 102 runs in 17.3 overs.

Diglipur, Feb 28: In the Diglipur Premier League match 2 played between Education Challengers and Airport Eleven, Education Challengers won the toss and made 94 runs in 20 overs. Airport Eleven were all out in 17th over and made 94 runs thus match was in tie –break. In Super over Airport Eleven made 14 runs and Education Challengers ended with 3 runs thus Airport Eleven won the match.

In Match 3, played between Agni Youth Club and Durgapur Dolphins. Durgapur Dolphins won the toss and made 220 runs in 20 over and chasing the score Agni Youth Club were all out in 79 runs.

Rangat, Feb27: The General Public of Rangat are facing a lot of Problems from the past three months because of non-availability of a Dentist at the Community Health Center, Rangat.

The Dentist posted there in the Rangat Hospital went on Leave around three months back and has still not reported on duty because of which the other doctors of the Hospitals are attending the Dental Patients. The other doctors of the hospital are not trained in Dental Surgery so they are only able to provide elementary treatment such as providing of Pain Killers etc.

Meanwhile sources have also informed us that the Dentist in Mayabundar hospital is also on leave because of the Patients of both the regions are not able to get proper treatment.

When Andaman Sheekha contacted Dr. Mathew Joy, the CMO, CHC Rangat he informed that he has sent numerous letters to the Directorate of Heath Services about the non-availability of Dentist in the Hospital. The CMO added that he is aware of the problems faced by the people and he requested the Directorate of Health Services to immediately post a Dentist in the Hospital or revoke the leave of Dr. Parvesh, Dental Surgeon, CHC, Rangat.

Port Blair, Feb 26: Vivekananda Cup Cricket Tournament, also known as Diglipur Premier L -3 which is being organized by Regional Sports Council from 26 February 2013 to 06 March 2013 in the Vivekananda Stadium Diglipur was inaugurated by Asst Commissioner Diglipur Dr. Vivek Kumar In the presence of Pramukh Mr. Gauranga Dutta, DEO Diglipur, Mr. Susen Mallick, and Pradhan Subhash Gram Panchayat, Mr. .P R Singaram and PRI and ZP members. Andaman Sheekha, English Daily is the media partner of this tournament.

Pramukh Mr. Gauranga Dutta welcomed all the guests in this occasion and lauded the Regional Sports Council for organizing this tournament with limited resources. 21 Teams from N & M Andaman are participating in 9 day DPL-3.

“I declare open the Vivekananda Cup Cricket Tournament DPL -3” The Asst. Commissioner said while declaring the tournament open.

By giving examples of Vivekanda’s thoughts the Assistant Commissioner said that due to his visions and by permission of the others the name of the Tournament changed from Assistant Commissioner Cup to Vivekananda Cup Cricket Tournament. “Harmony & brotherhood should be maintained during the tournament,” the AC said.

Once the Games were declared open, the flag were also hoisted at stadium by the Asst. Commissioner. For the first time in the history of Diglipur, inauguration ceremony and all the matches will be shown live through Diglipur Cable network in Channel No.2.

Diglipur, Feb 25: Andaman and Nicobar Islands is surrounded by sea from all sides and the only economical way of travelling in between these islands is through boats and ships. Every department concerned with the security of these Islands has its own fleet of boats. Forest Department of our Islands also has a fleet of 4-5 boats for carrying cargo and for carrying out patrolling inside creeks and remote areas for protecting the valuable resources.

Andaman Sheekha has gathered information that one of the boats of Forest Department has become a while elephant and the Forest Department is happily feeding the same years after year. The boat ML Pushpa is presently resting in peace at Ariel Bay jetty waiting for its Condemnation.

ML Pushpa had undergone repair five years ago. But due to lack of maintenance the ship grounded near Ariel Bay jetty just after few months of returning from maintenance.

The ship even though is not in working conditions but still there are five staffs posted for the ship at Diglipur including a Master, sarang, greaser etc .

There were six staffs posted until few months ago but one was eventually transferred to Mayabundar. The salary of the excess staffs without any work at Diglipur must have reduced the reserves of the administration to crores of rupees.

The staffs posted in the ship are seen roaming around the Ariel Bay jetty area and they rest for the whole day in the Eco-Hut constructed for tourists there near the jetty.

When Andaman Sheekha contacted Dr. Dinesh Kannan IFS, the Divisional Forest Officer of Diglipur to know why the staffs are still posted there in Diglipur even when ML Pushpa is not in working condition for more than three years he said whenever the condemnation file is approved we will immediately transfer the staffs to some other region.

He added that the ship has to be protected, so staffs are also necessary here although he said that the report of excess staffs has already been sent to the seniors. He also said that during every meeting with the senior officials of the Department ML Pushpa matter is raised and the department is following up its condition and is interested in repairing the Boat instead of its dismantling.

He also added that the matter is also being raised with PCCF and the staffs are ship staffs so they can be engaged in any other sorts of work. But according to the DFO all these staffs refuse to do any other kind of work.

Our Islands have a forest cover of about 84% of its geographical area. The coast line of our islands is about 1914 Kms and it is bordered with luxuriant mangroves and magnificent fringing coral reefs. Poachers from different foreign countries are proving to be a threat to our resources rich Islands.

The clean and pollution free environment of our islands make it the best place for promoting Eco- Tourism. In remote islands there are no forest staffs posted and either it is protected by the Police or it is left without protection, the state of the resources in these islands are not even known. The forest department of our Islands has only 4-5 wooden boats which are used for carrying cargo and for patrolling purposes but no patrolling in the remote islands are done by the forest department. The forest department also has less than 1000 Executive Staffs (about 900).

Our Islands being rich in natural resources have to be efficiently protected against the poachers intending to take away the golden bowl that rests in peace amidst the Bay of Bengal. The forest department should gear up for performing its duties in efficient manner and by modernizing itself and by efficient management of its staffs and transferring them to places wherever they are most required to contribute towards protecting the valuable resources.
