Port Blair, Apr 10: Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Chairman, ANSCU inaugurated two rural roads of Shivapuram Gram Panchayat on 7th of April 2013 in the presence of about 350 women and 300 men. Both the roads that he inaugurated were constructed by Gram Panchayat. One road was from ATR to Dhanninallah Beach and other a CC road from ATR to Satyabalan’s house. These roads were constructed at a cost of Rs 32 lacks and 25 lacks respectively.

The inaugural function was also attended by Mrs. Madhuri giri, ZP Adhyaksha, North and Middle Andaman, Mr. Arsheed Waseem, Pradhan, Shivapuram, Mr. R. Nagraj, Member of Gram Panchayat and other PRI members.

The Chairman along with the ZP Addhyaksha, Pradhan and residents of the area also visited the incomplete road of Panchawati Nallah Bridge.

Mr. Wassem Pradhan of the area informed Mr. Sharma that the people of the area are suffering very much and are demanding for a black top road.

Mr. Sharma requested the ZP Adhyaksha to look into the matter on priority basis and the Adhyaksha had assured to sanction a road at an early date.

Diglipur, Apr 09: Two road accidents today rocked entire Diglipur Island. In the first accident, which occurred at Keralapuram an Ambulance of Indian Coast Guard collided with a Hero Honda Splender bike. On the bike two forest Guards, Mr. K R Ganesh and Abhiskek, were going on duty to attend Operation “Tat Suraksha”. They were rushing to reach Aerial Bay.

At Keralapuram near a sharp turning a Savari vehicle, which they were following from long distance, gave way to a Coast Guard Ambulance, coming from the opposite direction. The bikers thought that the Savari vehicle is giving passage to them. While overtaking both Ambulance and the Bike came face to face and collided head on.

Eye witnesses say that the biker K. R. Ganesh, was not wearing the helmet but was holding it in one hand. K R Ganesh sustained serious head injuries and was airlifted by Pawan Hans Helicopter to Port Blair. The pillion rider was admitted at CHC Diglipur with various injuries and said to be out of danger now.

In the evening at about 3pm another accident took place at Ganna Dabla, Kalighat Range, where a Maruti Alto flew off the road and fell into a road side ditch. The Alto was driven by Mr. Dinesh Das, a travel agent from RGT Road, Port Blair. He was coming towards Diglipur along with his wife and other relatives, which includes a child of 2 years and 8 months.

According to Mr. Dinesh Das, a lady came infront of his car and showed hand to stop the car and when he did, he lost control over the car.

All the passengers inside the car suffered minor and major injuries and were rushed to CHC Diglipur. One passenger sustained serious injuries on the neck and his condition is very serious. Surgeon who arrived from Mayabunder Hospital was performing operation, when last report poured in.

Port Blair, Apr 09: It is brought to the notice of all concerned that the Un-organized Workers Social Security Act, 2008 and the A &N Islands Un-organized workers social security Rules, 2011 has come into force in the North & Middle Andaman District with immediate effect.

The eligible unorganized workers may collect the prescribed application form from all the Pradhan Gram Panchayats, North and Middle Andaman District from 22nd April, 2013 (Monday) onwards.

All the Pradhan of Gram Panchayats in the North and Middle Andaman District may collect duly filled in application form alongwith a copy of self declaration “Section 10(b) of the Act” and three passport size photographs from unorganized workers in their respective area and in turn the Pradhan may transmit all the received applications from to the concerned Tehsildar, Mayabunder/Rangat/Diglipur and after compilation with the help of Incharge, Employment Exchange the Tehsildar will transmit the same to Assistant Labour Commissioner, Rangat. Similarly, the unorganized workers can also apply directly to the Tehsildars, Mayabunder/Rangat/ Diglipur for the same.

The Assistant Labour Commissioner, Rangat shall act as Incharge, Workers Facilitation Centre as laid down under Section “9” of the act in respect of the North and Middle Andaman District. After obtaining approval and Registration from the Deputy Commissioner, North and Middle Andaman District the Assistant Labour Commissioner, Rangat will issue Identity Card with a Unique No. to all unorganized workers through respective Pradhans.

Port Blair, Apr 05: Following Andaman Sheekha’s report “Brand New Fire Tender of Diglipur goes out of order”, published on 05th April 2013, the Director General Police, A & N Islands has ordered to substitute the defected Fire Tender with a new Fire Tender.

“After reading the news, the Director General of Police has taken immediate action and ordered to replace the Fire Tender. Following the order, a new Fire Tender has already been sent for Diglipur today by road, which will reach Diglipur tonight or tomorrow morning,” Mr. Anyesh Roy, the Chief Fire Officer of A & N Fire Services told Andaman Sheekha today.

He also assured to get the faulty PTO pump of the Diglipur’s defected Fire Tender, repaired within 10 days.

Diglipur, Apr 05: Sources in the District Administration of North and Middle Andaman today claimed that the Diglipur Forest Fire has been brought under control. According to sources out of 6 excavators, 5 excavators have been called back and 1 excavator has been kept inside the deep Forest as standby.

On behalf of the Deputy Commissioner and Assistant Commissioner of N & M Andaman, Mr. Abdul Gafoor, in-charge of disaster management control room today expressed gratitude to all the staff of various departments for taking active participation in controlling the Forest Fire at Gandhinagar & Keralapuram. He also expressed especial gratitude to the Commandant & Staff of Indian Coast Guard & Indian Navy.

Port Blair, Apr 05: The final of Vivekananda Cup Cricket Tournament, also known as Diglipur Premier Leauge -3 will be played tomorrow at Diglipur. DPL 3 is being organized by Regional Sports Council from 26 February 2013 to 06 March 2013.

21 Teams from N & M Andaman are participating in 9 day DPL-3. Inauguration ceremony and all the matches were shown live through Diglipur Cable network in Channel No.2.

The final will be played tomorrow between MAM and UKS. The match will start at 12 pm. The Chief Guest on this occasion will be PCC chief Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma. He will distribute the prizes to the winners.

Diglipur, Apr 04: Though the District Administration is able to cordon off the massive Forest Fire of Diglipur Island from nearby villages but in deep Forest areas, the Fire is still spreading wildly.

“In deep Forest the Fire is still spreading but towards villages we have totally controlled the fire. Using excavators we have totally cordoned off the fire. Out of nearly 26 families living in the Forest Area, none of them have been evacuated,” Dr. Vivek Kumar the Assistant Commissioner of Diglipur Island told ‘Andaman Sheekha’ today.

According to reports, the Deputy Commissioner of North and Middle Andaman also arrived at Diglipur today to inspect the fire fighting works, which is being carried out by Fire Brigade, local police, villagers and Forest Department of A & N Islands.

“We are not sure about the exact area, which have been destroyed by the Forest Fire as the Forest Department hasn’t provided any figure yet. The fire is between three villages viz Ganesh Nagar, Kanti Nagar and Gandhi Nagar,” Dr. Kumar added.

When asked about the reasons behind the Forest Fire, the Assistant Commissioner said that the Administration suspect that the fire was man-made.

Meanwhile, massive Bush Fire has also been reported from Cherian Nallah and Keralapuram villages of Diglipur Islands, where staffs of Fire Brigade, Coast Guard and Andaman and Nicobar Command are still fighting fire.
