Diglipur, June 23: The officials of revenue Department today saved life of a Dog, which had somehow reached the first floor of GPO building of Diglipur. The Dog for reason unknown reached at the edge of the BDO office and found himself frozen in fear about 20 feet above the ground.
When the matter was communicated to the Assistant Commissioner of Diglipur, Dr. Vivek Kumar by Andaman Sheekha, he immediately directed Patwari Mr. Daniel and Mr.Sudip Saha to reach the spot and carry rescue operation.
With great care both of the officials conducted the rescue operation, which could have otherwise resulted in injury of death of the Dog. Mr. Daniel reportedly grabbed the leg and rescued the Dog.

Diglipur, June 17: Heavy rainfall and high tide today caused havoc at Diglipur Island, resulting in flood like situation in many villages. According reports rain caused maximum damages at Kishori Nagar, Madyam Gram and Parangara villages while R K Gram, D B Gram and V S Palli villages are also affected.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha the Assistant Commissioner of Diglipur today said that five people (three male and two female) were rescued by police personnel from flooded areas of Madhyam Gram while flooding of ATR road at Parangara village had disrupted traffic in the Afternoon hours.
“Presently water has receded, rain has also stopped and situation is totally under control. There is a heavy rainfall warning for tomorrow but we are fully prepared,” Dr. Vivek Kumar, Assistant Commissioner of Diglipur added.
He said due to uprooting of trees, the power line from Kalpong to Diglipur was snapped and one electric pole was also damaged.
“We could not get backup power from Mayabunder because in that route too power lines snapped due to tree fall. Presently there is a blackout in a large area of Diglipur but we are confident to resume power supply by tomorrow afternoon,” the Assistant Commissioner added.
According to reports the AC with senior officials of North Andaman today visited all the rain hit areas.

Diglipur, June 06: A STS bus of Diglipur Division today fell into roadside pit at Mohanpur, Mayabunder. According to reports, there were 40 passengers present inside the bus when this accident took place. Sources said that the accident occurred when the driver lost control over the bus due to over-speed.

According to officials, only one lady got major injuries, who was admitted in nearby hospital, while a few other passengers got only minor bruises.

Diglipur, May 29: Heavy wind and rain in the night hours caused three trees to fall on road in between Basadeck and Shyam Nagar Diglipur. Heavy rainfall in this remote area caused land sliding, snapping of power lines, road blockade and uprooting of trees.

Forest beat officer Mr. R.Surendran who is on duty informed the matter to the Pradhan Gram Panchayat, Radha Nagar. Due to snapping of power lines, road clearance is not possible in the night in these areas.

However, today early morning APWD Er D R R Siddappa, Forest Beat Officer Mr. R.Surendran , Electricity officials, Staff of Fire Service and Pradhan of Radha Nagar Gram Panchayat U K Saha reached the spot along with other staffs and cleared the trees and restored power lines. The road was also re-opened for public.

Billyground, May 28: If you are visiting North and Middle Andaman, do not miss the chance to travel in Nimbudera Express Bus of State Transport Service. It seems that to promote Monsoon Tourism, the Transport Department has added new amusing service inside Nimbudera Express Bus, where one can enjoy Monsoon Showers, sitting right inside the Express Bus. According to public inside the said Express Bus, when it rains outside, it pours inside.

For department of Transport, operating Nibudera Express may be a fun but for general public travelling in Nibudera Express during rainy days is nothing but a terrible punishment.

Photographs available with Andaman Sheekha show that how difficult it is for general public to travel in the said Express Bus.

“When it rains outside, we need to open our umbrellas inside the bus or we would definitely get wet. Those who don’t have umbrella or raincoat have no other option than getting wet. The buses of STS are so old that even closing the window panels do not help,” said a passenger of Nibudera Express.

It is learnt that several times in past, PRI members of the area have demanded new Express Buses in Nibudera Route but for unknown reasons new buses are never sent in the said route.

Situation inside the Nibudera Express perhaps present the actual picture of entire Andaman and Nicobar Administration, where no one really cares for general public.

Billyground, May 27: Two days after the flood like situation in Middle Andaman region, the scary images of the disaster emerged. Billyground is said to be the worst hit by heavy rainfall on 25 May 2013. Andaman Sheekha is the first newspaper to bring these pictures for our readers.

According to reports, on Saturday heavy rain caused flood like situation at Billyground and in many houses there was water upto the level of waist. More than a dozens of families have suffered heavy loss of properties due to the heavy rain.

Moreover, due to incessant rain there was continuous power cut.

“Even today power went off in the morning and now it is 7.00 pm at night and there is no power in the entire region,” Mr. Gurudas a villager of Billyground told Andaman Sheekha.

Villagers allege that the Electricity Department is not even sure that where is the actual fault and hence public of the entire region is suffering. “The Electricity Department must send a special team to middle Andaman to deal with this crisis,” said another villager of Billyground.
