Port Blair, April 01: The Secretary, IP today called upon the President, ANMF and assured that the UT administration will extend full support for the smooth functioning of the media units in the islands. It may be recalled here that recently the Secretary, IP has met the Media-persons to know the problems faced by the media in the islands.
Media persons brought to his knowledge about issues like issuing of media pass so that media here can perform its duty and release of government advertisements to the local media.
The Secretary, IP told the President, ANMF that the has brought the issue before the knowledge of the Chief Secretary and the UT administration is working to provide some relief to the media units by way of releasing advertisement. So far, IP Division has issued media pass to about daily weakly, fortnightly and monthly 27 newspapers operating from the islands.
RMRC-ICMR confirms 5 more cases as COVID-19 positive; total 6 positive cases in A&N Islands: Health parameters of all confirmed cases normal Administration makes elaborate arrangements for quarantine of suspicious persons
Port Blair, Mar 27: The designated laboratory for COVID-19 in A&N Islands, RMRC-ICMR, Dollygunj has confirmed 05 (Five) more cases as positive for Novel Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19) in Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The persons who are tested positive are also part of the same group which came from Vistara flight from Delhi and Indigo flight from Chennai on 24.03.2020.
The Administration has already started the process of contact tracing which interalia includes of co-passengers of the flights, the police officials and the medical team who screened them at airport and also the staff of ambulance which transported them to G B Pant Hospital isolation facility.
Yesterday the Administration submitted 24 suspected cases for testing out of which 05 (Five) cases were reported as positive. Therefore, out of 60 suspected samples only 06 (Six) cases reported positive. It is pertinent to mention that these 06 (Six) cases did not intermingle with local people and transported directly from Airport to Quarantine/Isolation facility at G B Pant Hospital.
The Health parameters of all the confirmed cases are normal and they are responding to all queries being asked by the contact tracing team constituted. It is pertinent to mention that Deputy Commissioner (SA) has constituted 75 teams for contact tracing from Rural Development Department, Panchayati Raj and Revenue Development who are covering 25 houses each assigned to them for contact tracing. Similar committees have been constituted in North & Middle Andaman and Car Nicobar Districts.
The Administration has also made elaborate arrangements for isolation/ quarantine for persons who are suspicious of having infection of COVID-19. Isolation wards have been setup at GB Pant Hospital (48 Beds), INHS Dhanvantri (15 Beds) and PHC Chouldari (15 beds) for treatment. Isolation/ quarantine facilities have been created in Govt. Guest Houses and private hotels for asymptomatic suspicious cases. At present there are 280 rooms with attached bathroom for asymptomatic suspicious cases. One Hotel of 42 rooms is designated as COVID-19 hospital for symptomatic suspicious cases in Port Blair.
One case confirmed positive for Novel Corona Virus disease in A&N Islands: Administration tracking contact details, person belongs to Mayabunder Tehsil
Port Blair, Mar 26: The designated laboratory for COVID-19 in A&N Islands, RMRC-ICMR, Dollygunj has confirmed one case positive for Novel Corona Virus Disease. The person belongs to Mayabunder Tehsil of North & Middle Andaman District of A&N Islands.
It is to inform that a group of 13 people travelled to Vishakhapatnam in the month of February 2020. Thereafter, on 18.03.2020 they travelled to Delhi and remained in Delhi till 24.03.2020. On 24.03.2020, 6 persons travelled back to Port Blair by Vistara Flight (UK 747) and 1 person by Indigo Flight (6E 6005). Persons who have shown mild symptoms were taken to G B Pant Hospital Isolation facility. Samples were drawn on 25.03.2020 and one person was declared as tested positive on 26.03.2020.
The Administration is tracking the contact details as were made by the infected person and also taking up screening of co-passengers along with the Police and Medical team at Airport, and also the persons who had travelled with him in Ambulance to hospital. It is further informed that the G B Pant Hospital Isolation Ward have all the facilities to take care of infected person as well as equipments to protect health care worker from the infection, a press release issued by Principal Secretary (Health) said here today.
COVID-19; Tourism Deptt issues advisory: Entry of Tourists to all Beaches, Museums, including Chatham Saw Mill, Mount Harriet, Wright Myo Eco-tourism sites etc. suspended
Port Blair, Mar 23 :To check the spread of COVID-19 in the Islands, A&N Administration had earlier decided to suspend all Tourism activities on all Jetties and Beaches etc. from 17th March till 26th March, 2020.
On account of the existing situation and as a mark of precaution in the wake of the threat from the Noval Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19), it has been decided that all the Tourism Activities on all Jetties, Beaches, Eco-tourism Sites, Museums, Cellular Jail including Light & sound Show, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Island including Light & Sound Show, Baratang etc. and Water Sports activities at all sites will now be suspended till 31st March, 2020.
Advisory by Labour Commissioner: All employers advised not to terminate services of regular/part time/casual/daily wagers or contractual workers
Port Blair, Mar 23: Andaman and Nicobar Islands is facing a situation of almost lockdown considering the impending risk of spread of Corona virus and threat of COVID – 19 in these Islands. It has already taken a number of steps in safeguarding public safety and healths including imposition of Section 144 of Cr.P.C vide DCs orders with effect from 19th March, 2020 which is lead to closure of commercial establishments and other non essential activities including construction activities in the entire UTs.
The Government of India has been issuing various advisory instructions and orders etc. to contain the spread of Novel Corona Virus (COVID-19) in the nation, these includes shut down of shop and establishments other than essential activities to ensure maintaining social distancing for members of the public etc. and to control spreading of Corona virus.
With a view to safeguard public health and in interest of public Safety and in order to prevent any outbreak of the disease in the A&N Islands, the market activities involving shops and Commercial Establishments came to a standstill except few essential establishments dealing with chemist and pharmacy, Grocery, milk, Bakery, Fuel station of ANIIDCO.
In the backdrop of such a challenging situation all employers Public/Private establishment are advised to extend their coordination by not terminating the services of Regular/ Part time/Casual/daily wagers or contractual workers from job or reduce their wages. It is further advised that the employees may be treated on duty when the place of employment becomes non operational due to COVID-19.
For the employees over one year of service, the Shop and Commercial Regulation, 2004 has provided that the employers are liable to pay 12 days sick leave with wages to their workers who are employed continuously for last one year. In view of emergent shut down due to pandemic as narrated above, the employers of the shops and Establishments are hereby appealed to provide 12 days sick leave with wages to their employees and produce paid voucher after 31st March, 2020 to the Labour Commissioner for his verification.
Dr. Omkar appeals general public to self isolate themselves for two-three weeks more to get rid of the pandemic COVID- 19 virus

Port Blair, March 23: Although no COVID-19 cases have been reported from Andaman yet but, according to Dr. Omkar Singh, the Director, Directorate of Health Services, people must try and continue to self- isolate themselves for two-three weeks more, so that the results are effective.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha over the phone, Dr. Singh said that only through social distancing the chain of transmission of the virus can be broken and looking at the current situation, it is the need of the hour.

Port Blair, Mar 20: Although no cases of COVID19 has been reported from Andaman and Nicobar Islands but the local Administration has announced more severe counter measures to combat the threat of the Novel Corona Virus Disease (COVID – 19), which has know triggered panic among Islanders of this Union Territory.
To restrict movement of people the Andaman and Nicobar Administration has imposed a ban on sale of Petrol and HSD (Diesel) to the General Public with effect from the midnight of 19.03.2020 till the midnight of 26.03.2020.
It has been directed that during this period, POL shall only be issued to the fuel outlet runs by Andaman and Nicobar Islands Integrated Development Corporation Limited (ANIIDCO) in Port Blair and other Islands.
This decision however triggered a panic among Islanders on 19 March and thousands of people could be seen standing in long queue to fill petrol from all fuel units till late evening.
Similarly, in many Islands of N & M Andaman panic buying spree has been reported. People were seen buying stocks of several months out of panic, which has already caused serious shortage of commodities in North and Middle Andaman.
As per reports, due to panic buying essential stocks like Cooking Oil, Rice, salt and other necessary items have gone out of stock in the markets of N & M Andaman.
“There are also some restrictions on movement of private vehicles from Port Blair to North and Middle Andaman and adding to that people do not have enough fuel for send commodities to North and Middle Andaman. If this trend continues then within a few days entire North and Middle Andaman will witness severe shortage of essential commodities,” said a resident of North and Middle Andaman.
Meanwhile, talking to Andaman Sheekha over the phone, Mr. Dipankar Mistry, Adhyaksh, Zilla Parishad, North and Middle Andaman said that today after the working hours when he visited the grocery shops he found that most of the essential stocks have gone out of stock in the market.
“Though panic buying is the reason, if the situation remains the same, the residents may panic further, hence, the administration must allow commercial vehicles to continue their services especially to those who are engaged in supplying essential commodities,” Mr. Mistry said.
He said that he had a discussion on the issue with the District Commissioner and the DC has asked him to send the details of the vehicles which are engaged in supplying essential commodities to the North and Middle Andaman District.
The Adyaksha, N & M Andaman ZP said that DC was positive and has assured him that he will communicate with South Andaman District Administration to allow vehicles which bring essential commodities to N & M Andaman to cater to their services.
Although no cases of COVID19 has been reported from Andaman and Nicobar Islands yet but it seems that the island Administration is not taking any chances, which in other way has been lauded by the residents of A & N Andaman Islands.
COVID19: DHS urges public to avoid visiting hospital for minor illnesses
Port Blair, Mar 20: In view of the COVID19 outbreak to avoid mass gathering in hospitals all the general public is hereby requested to avoid visit to hospitals for minor illnesses.
A release from Dr. Avijit Ray, Nodal Officer, COVID19 today said that patient with minor illness may seek consultation of doctors over telephone for treating minor ailments. The telephonic numbers of concerned doctors may be obtained from 232102 or health care staffs of concerned Health Care Institutes. Only people with major health issues may visit hospitals.
Chief Secretary takes stock of measures to combat COVID-19 in A&N Islands: General public advised to refrain from making non essential trips outside their residences
Port Blair, Mar 19: A high level meeting was chaired by the Chief Secretary, Andaman and Nicobar Administration, Shri Chetan B. Sanghi today to take stock of measures taken so far by the UT Administration in combating the threat of the Novel Corona Virus Disease (COVID – 19). The meeting was attended by the Director General of Police, Principal Secretary (Finance/Disaster Management), Commissioner-cum-Secretary (PWD/CA), Secretary (Civil Supplies), Secretary (GA), Secretary (Law), Deputy Commissioner (South Andaman) and other officials.
- In view of the evolving situation with respect to the threat posed by COVID-19, it was decided that Prohibitory Orders can be considered by the District Magistrate with effect from the midnight of 19.3.2020 for a week or so. However, chemist and pharmacy shops, grocery/kirana shops, milk shops/bakeries, vegetable/ fruit/meat shops and fuel stations of ANIIDCO can be allowed.
- It was also decided that in order to minimise the threat posed by epidemic, work from home dispensation shall be permitted for all employees of the A&N Administration except the operational staff of Departments rendering essential services viz. Health, Police, Transport, Civil Supplies, Electricity, Sanitation, Water Supply, Civil Aviation, Fire Services, Shipping, PMB and Disaster Management from 20th March, 2020 till 26th March, 2020. The officials working from home shall not leave the station and may be available on mobile/landline for any exigency.
- Further, it was decided that movement through Heli/Dornier to various islands also need to be restricted and a specific order has been issued separately by this Administration in this regard. It has also been directed that compulsorily medical screening/medical examination of all the passengers need to be done by the Doctor at Helipad/Airstrip for Helicopter and Dornier operated for civil passengers. Orders for restrictive movement by ships for Inter island movement have also been issued on the similar lines.
- It has also been decided to impose a ban on sale of MS (Petrol) and HSD (Diesel) to the General Public with effect from the midnight of 19.03.2020 till the midnight of 26.03.2020. It has been further directed that during this period, POL shall only be issued to the ANIIDCO outlets. For Car Nicobar district, POL will be issued by EHL outlets. ANIIDCO will issue POL to Govt. vehicles (UT/Central/PSU) for performing essential services. For private vehicles engaged in Govt. duty/performing essential services, fuel shall be issued only on production of a special permit to be obtained from the office of concerned Deputy Commissioner.
- Further, it has been decided that services of all Private Express buses, services of local ordinary buses operated by private operators and services of all taxis, jeeps, contract carriages, tourist vehicles & auto rickshaws shall remain suspended from the midnight of 19.03.2020 till the midnight of 26.03.2020. However, for the convenience of the general public and for facilitating emergency travel requirements, the local as well as Express buses of the Transport Department will continue to ply with a restricted capacity not exceeding 50% of the registered seating capacity of the vehicle, so as to maintain social distancing between the passengers, as stipulated by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India.
- General public has been advised to refrain from making non-essential travel and trips outside their residence, except for essential/emergency needs.
SBM Ambassador Visits to PHC Manglutan
Port Blair, March 18: To check the Cleanliness and sanitation under Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan with the motivation today Mr. Naresh Chander Lal, Ambassador Swachh Bharat Mission A & N Islands visited the Primary Health Centre Manglutan and interacted with the out- patients, in- patients, visitors and Attenders, also requested them to keep the health centre premises Clean and their respective localities also. Mr. Lal also requested them to take all preventive measures seriously in spread of Novel Corona virus disease in the islands. Medical Officer Dr. Shivangi Lal accompanied Ambassador during the visit.
